"Coast to Coast AM" radio host Art Bell, whose broadcasts dealt with conspiracies and the paranormal, died on Friday, April 13. He was 72. The Nye County Sheriff´s Office reported that Bell died at his home in Pahrump, Nevada. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week to determine the cause of death, according to KSNV-TV, News 3, in Las Vegas. At one time Bell had close to 10 million listeners before his sudden retirement. He did his shows about UFOs, conspiracies and cover-ups for over 15 years from his home in the Nevada desert.

Comments:
No matter how you feel about the topics he covered, Art Bell was able to tease some great information and stories out of people with his interview style. RIP

My favorite line in "Men in Black" was "Elvis did not die, he just went home". Beam me up Scottie. Time to return to the mother ship. Hope Art is having a good time where ever he is.

Art Bell, the real live "Crypt Keeper". I´d often tune him in before finding overnight conservative talk radio (Red Eye Radio). Truly, a great interviewer.

Rest in Peace, whatever plain or dimension you are in, Art.

Enjoyed his show. But was never a believer. No one can know for sure but I doubt life exists elsewhere in the universe. And if intelligent life does, why would they want to devote years and huge amounts of energy to come here? The thing I enjoyed the most about Art is he could interview raving lunatics and he treated them with the utmost respect and never ridiculed them. A class act. RIP.

The subject matter of his show was often iffy; but his skills as a host, interviewer, and commentator were unquestionable. He was unfailingly respectful to guest and caller, no matter how whacked they might be. He had a keen sense of where the follow-up question should be, and I don´t recall him ever neglecting to ask it, except where time simply ran out.

RIP, Art.

I am/was so in awe of Art Bell. I could not tell you how many zillions of lonely desert night miles I drove listening to him. He was truly a wonderful entertainer. He kind of went crazy paranoid for a while and had some weird family problems. But, he came out ok. For a time, he started believing in some of the stories he was spinning and I think that messed with his heard. But, over all, he really was a hoot. He kept me from falling asleep at the wheel, that´s for sure.

Many years ago on the first day of a second job which started on a very early Saturday morning, I tuned in to AM radio and happened to catch this man expertly interviewing another a breathless man about an alien landing/sighting/invasion somewhere near Seattle. I thought to myself "How incredible! This is happening!" I listened with rapt attention as the details were amazing. I never once questioned the story....until suddenly the host broke for commercial. I was so confused! I switched to different stations and there was no mention of this momentous event! Upon arriving to work, I spoke with some older people with whom I was working, and they explained that I had just gotten my first introduction to Art Bell and his Coast to Coast program. I probably never caught his program more than once or twice ever again, but I tell you that man had me hook, line, and sinker on that morning. I still chuckle to myself to this day about it. RIP Mr. Art Bell.

Really enjoyed Art Bell and have always wondered what really happened that caused him to leave the show so abruptly a few years ago. Seems like there were rumors having to do with threats against him or his son but never heard what really happened. I kinda like George Noury but don´t listen much as it seems like most of his shows deal with dream interpretations, which I´ve always found to be nearly as interesting as mowing grass.

Very sad news...really a surprise since he was so young! Art Bell was a fixture in my radio life, that´s for sure! I´ve really missed him since he went off the air for the last time just a few years ago. Wondering if that wasn´t actually the final nail in the coffin...

At any rate, my favorite interviews were with the various physicists, mathematicians and philosophers...Marcus Hutter....Shostak and Kaku...Douglas Mulhall...Jim Elvidge...et al. Art Bell was the most wonderful interviewer on these occasions; he always asked the best, most intelligent questions! Fortunately, I´ve saved some of those podcasts...definitely time to re-listen...maybe tonight...

One of a kind, a true entertainer and great broadcaster and story teller. RIP Art, wherever you are!

Also, the great Phil Hendrie did hilarious send ups of Art on his (Phil´s) radio show. Man, I miss the 1990s!

I listened a couple of times, and couldn´t get past the obvious BS content of much of his fanciful stuff.

Perhaps I just didn´t hear "the good stuff" in my few forays into the asylum, but my impression was that he was either a charlatan selling moonbeams or a real nutcase who believed it. Never cared to work on which it was, neither interested me.

Never wanted to shut him up, but never wanted to listen, either.

For the past year, chief executives have often talked about the new sense of moral responsibility that corporations have to help their communities and confront social challenges even when Washington won’t. What if the finance industry — credit card companies like Visa, Mastercard and American Express; credit card processors like First Data; and banks like JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo — were to effectively set new rules for the sales of guns in America? Collectively, they have more leverage over the gun industry than any lawmaker. And it wouldn’t be hard for them to take a stand.

After about thirteen years of being a loyal customer of Netflix, the time has come for me to say goodbye. California is poised to become the first state in the nation to offer full health coverage to undocumented adults even as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown by separating families at the border. (Snip) But at a time when Trump is already attempting to re-energize state Republican voters — he met with California conservatives at the White House last week to strategize against the state’s sanctuary policies — the initiative might be risky. For starters, it will be costly: The annual price tag to expand Medicaid benefits to poor adult immigrants without legal status is projected at $3 billion annually.
