Rex — or should we say Mr. Tillerson: Tuesday might have been a bit of a downer for you in Washington with the president dismissing you as Secretary of State. But now that you have the freedom to consider new opportunities and speak freely, our editorial board is urging you to come home to North Texas, to the beautiful home you and wife Renda have in Fort Worth. We could use your high-level talents. Fort Worth is in a rebuilding period, intent on competing more aggressively to attract the economic development interests that can provide cutting edge jobs and higher wagers. We want

Rex only wants to be King. He sure didn´t want to follow policy instructions of his boss, President Trump. After destroying the Boy Scouts, and working to keep in place the Obama $150 billion Iran deal - that was not approved by the US Senate as a Treaty - to develop nuclear weapons to destroy Israel and the US, just stay on the East Coast Rex.

There was much to like about this man. That said, he did not seem to fit the mold of what the President Trump needed in that position.

I also have been wondering about his health. Has he gained weight since the inauguration? The labored breathing at his press conference was a worry, too. I wish the man well, and hope he is now able to retire and contemplate the good he has done and hope he will have some regrets, too.

I saw him as a counterpart to Trump - similar skill sets, used to being in charge, seeing the big picture, and having loyalists around. But where Trump uses bluster, Tillerson was a gentle breeze. Not what was needed at this time in our history.

The Trump-Russia sleuthers have been back in the news, again giving Americans cause to doubt their claims of nonpartisanship. Last week it was Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok testifying to Congress that he harbored no bias against a president he still describes as “horrible” and “disgusting.” This week it was former FBI Director Jim Comey tweet-lecturing Americans on their duty to vote Democratic in November. But the man who deserves a belated bit of scrutiny is former Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan. He’s accused President Trump of “venality, moral turpitude and political corruption,” and berated GOP investigations of

You may have noticed the big Texas sky looks a little opaque this week. That’s because of a visiting cloud of dust from the Saharan Desert, which blew over the Atlantic about a week ago to settle over the Gulf Coast. While the African dust outbreak—the second to visit Texas this year—may seem like an anomaly, they’ve been occurring for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. The traveling dust outbreaks, called the Saharan Air Layer by scientists, typically occur during the summer season and are due to storms in the Sahel region of Africa. “During this time of year, we

Robert Mueller did his reputation for nonpartisanship no service by launching his indictment of Russia’s military hackers on the eve of what 99% of the media now say was a disastrous performance by President Trump in his summit with Vladimir Putin. This is the same Mr. Mueller who, as FBI chief, sat for five years on the indictment of a Russian uranium executive when it would have been embarrassing to Mr. Obama’s own Russia rapprochement—and doubly embarrassing to his secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, because of the connection of the Clinton Foundation to the Russian uranium business in question. Mr. Mueller’s timing

It had been two days since William Voge was publicly disgraced, and the 61-year-old globe-trotting lawyer couldn’t sleep. His family, his colleagues and competitors, everyone it seemed, knew about the sexually explicit texts he exchanged last year with a woman he had never met in person, and still hasn’t. The fallout scandalized the legal profession and would cost Mr. Voge his job at Latham & Watkins LLP, one of the highest grossing law firms in the world, where he was chairman. Mr. Voge slipped out of his $5 million house in Solana Beach, Calif., that night in March. He went to a

Let’s Talk About the Black Abortion Rate

As Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination tees up another national debate about reproductive rights, is it too much to ask that abortion’s impact on the black population be part of the discussion? When the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade in 1973, polling showed that blacks were less likely than whites to support abortion. Sixties-era civil rights activists like Fannie Lou Hamer and Whitney Young had denounced the procedure as a form of genocide. Jesse Jackson called abortion “murder” and once told a black newspaper in Chicago that “we used to look for death from the man in the blue

By picking Brett Kavanaugh as his Supreme Court nominee, President Trump showed that credentials and connections still matter — when backed up by results. One of the most scholarly members of the judiciary, Kavanaugh’s more than 300 opinions are read widely and influence courts across the country — including the one that he now hopes to join. There are few if any more respected lower-court judges. More important than his erudition is Kavanaugh’s intense commitment to constitutional structure. As Anthony Kennedy, the justice he clerked for and now seeks to succeed, often emphasized, this is vital not simply to the functioning

AUSTIN — U.S. Rep. Beto O´Rourke joined Austin legend Willie Nelson at the annual Willie´s Picnic on Wednesday night. O´Rourke, an El Paso Democrat running for Sen. Ted Cruz´s seat in the fall, tucked an "I Love You El Paso" T-shirt into his pants. Strumming a guitar, he sang "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die" — a message on brand for famous pothead Willie Nelson and O´Rourke´s pro-marijuana legalization stance. After they finished that song, Nelson shouted out, "Thank you Beto!" He kept the weed theme going as they rolled into the next song, "It´s All Going

Environmental extremism increasingly dominates California. The state is making a concerted attack on energy companies in the courts; a bill is pending in the legislature to fine waiters $1,000—or jail them—if they offer people plastic straws; and UCLA issued a report describing pets as a climate threat. The state has taken upon itself the mission of limiting the flatulence of cows and other farm animals. As the self-described capital of the anti-Trump resistance, California presents itself as the herald of a green, more socially and racially just society. That view has been utterly devastated by a new report from Chapman

Beto O’Rourke looks increasingly likely to be this year’s version of Wendy Davis. Remember her? The liberal darling who ran against Texas Gov. Greg Abbott but lost by a bigger-than-predicted margin because she just didn’t appeal to a bunch of Texas voters Democrats should be able to grab? Right. O’Rourke probably won’t lose by as much as Davis (the most recent University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll has him trailing Ted Cruz by five points, where Davis lost by about 20), but he has the same basic problem: he’s extremely exciting to rich, white liberals in places like Austin and Dallas. CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Three-year-old twins Zyler and Kadyn Sharpe scurried around the boys and girls clothing racks of a narrow consignment store filled with toys. Zyler, wearing rainbow leggings, scrutinized a pair of hot-pink-and-purple sneakers. Kadyn, in a T-Rex shirt, fixated on a musical cube that flashed colorful lights. At a glance, the only discernible difference between these fraternal twins is their hair — Zyler’s is brown and Kadyn’s is blond. Is Zyler a boy or a girl? How about Kadyn? That’s a question their parents, Nate and Julia Sharpe, say only the twins can decide. The Cambridge, Mass., couple

Since her surprise primary victory over 10-term Congressman Joe Crowley in New York’s 14th District, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been promoted by the media as the prototype of a new generation of young progressives destined to replace the leadership of the Democratic Party. Unfortunately for her media boosters, however, she keeps blowing her lines. It’s not just her rote advocacy of single-payer healthcare and guaranteed government jobs, or even that she backs wacky ideas like abolishing ICE and occupying airports — Ocasio-Cortez is genuinely clueless. She outed herself, in several recent interviews, as functionally illiterate in economics, international relations, and history.

Beating your wife is worse than protesting during the national anthem. So, too, is sexually assaulting a woman. While that might seem obvious, it needs to be clarified given The Associated Press´ report Thursday that the Miami Dolphins are now including protesting during the anthem on their list of "conduct detrimental to the club." Under NFL rules, that´s an offense punishable by a suspension of up to four games. The Dolphins later told the AP that "all options are still open." But to give you an idea of how heinous at least one NFL team sees trying to draw attention to racial and economic inequality, a four-game suspension is
