Poll: Democratic incumbents
trail in five Senate races

Power Line, by Paul Mirengoff

Last year at this time, many Republicans were optimistic about the opportunity to pick up enough Senate seats in 2018 to approach, or maybe even reach, a filibuster-proof majority — i.e. 60 seats. After all, ten seats held by Democrats in states carried by President Trump would be in play. By the end of the year, however, many Republicans were questioning whether the GOP could pick up enough seats to offset the anticipated loss of several held by Republican Senators. Control of the Senate seemed to be up-for-grabs. These days, the truth, or the best guess at it, probably lies somewhere in

They need to be trailing in about 25 races. What´s wrong with the people in their district?

A few days ago, I wrote about the death of Nikolai Glushkov, a Russian exile and former close associate of the late oligarch Boris Berezovsky. Glushkov had run afoul of Vladimir Putin and was jailed on money laundering and fraud charges in 2004. After he was released, he fled to Great Britain. Berezovsky was with the Russian president during his rise to power in the 1990s until he had a falling out with him in 1999 and fled to London. In 2013, he was found hanging in his home -- a suicide, the coroner said. Glushkov was found dead in his home

TAMPA — Past midnight, a few hours after he reported his wife’s death, Harold Allen sat in an interrogation room wearing shorts, flip-flops and a faded white T-shirt. Gray hair peeked out of a dark ball cap. "I should have made her get her butt to the hospital," he said with a shrug. "And I just respected her feelings, which I shouldn’t have done, I guess." This was how he explained Karen Allen’s slide from a 74-year-old wife and mother of two to the 68 pounds of flesh and bone that homicide detectives found beneath a bedsheet that day in January 2017. Explanations did not satisfy investigators.

The climate debate is one of the most important discussions in the world today. At stake are billions of dollars, millions of jobs, and -- if people like Canadian environmental activist Dr. David Suzuki are right -- the fate of the global environment. Consequently, we need all parties in the debate to behave responsibly. Sadly, climate discussions are often poisoned by misrepresentations and errors in reasoning. Suzuki does this in “Climate science deniers’ credibility tested,” his March 1 article attacking those of us who question the science promoted by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Reecently, the Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee released a memo officially stating that there is no evidence of any collusion between Donald Trump and Russian intelligence during the 2016 presidential election. Of course, you might not have heard this news if you have been punishing yourself by watching or reading any of the mainstream news. For its part, the mainstream media continues to prop up the improbable narrative that Donald Trump is a Russian agent of influence who is out to corrupt our democracy in Vladimir Putin’s name. Not only is the mainstream media dutifully covering the ongoing Robert Mueller

Is Russia´s Nerve Gas Attack in

The British government has directly accused Russia of using a very sophisticated chemical weapon ---a "poison gas" in common idiom -- in a failed attempt to murder a former Russian defector and his daughter. A vengeful Kremlin assassination team prowling Britain sounds like a scene in a Cold War spy novel and the botched March 4 homicide has Cold War echoes. The targets, former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were sitting on a park bench in Salisbury, England. However, immediate 21st century contexts matter. Vladimir Putin´s Russia is an especially relevant context. Putin´s Kremlin is currently engaged in global

Russia’s attempted murder of former Russian spy Serge Skripal and his daughter Yulia on British soil is an act of war, isn’t it? Austin Bay takes up the question here. I take it that if it’s not, it may be close enough for government work. Someone remind me. What did President Obama do about Iran’s attempted assassination of the Saudi ambassador to the United States in Washington, DC. Whatever it was, I think he followed up by secretly delivering pallets of cash to Tehran. It must not have been that big a deal after all. The Russian attack is said to have

The performance of British Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn in Parliament on Wednesday was the political equivalent of this: [Video] Today, Prime Minister Theresa May announced in Parliament her decision to expel Russian intelligence officers in the aftermath of an attack on U.K. soil. The attack, in which a Russian-developed nerve agent made Sergei Skripal and his daughter critically ill, should have prompted Corbyn to offer solemn condemnation of Russian President Vladimir Putin´s state aggression. Instead, Corbyn played perfectly into the hands of Russian propaganda messaging and again proved he´s a Kremlin stooge. First, Corbyn asked if the British government had

Rex Tillerson’s departure from the State Department is an opportunity to correct the fossilized received wisdom that for years has hampered our foreign policy. His replacement, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, seems likely to rejuvenate State by bringing a more realist philosophy to our relations with the world. From the start Tillerson was a dubious pick to implement the president’s policies, and his differences with Trump were predicated on the same assumptions evident in Barack Obama’s two terms. Obama is the epitome of the globalist idealism that dominates Western political and business elites. In their view, interstate relations and conflicts are best

Today students were excused from classrooms all across America to participate in demonstrations in favor of firearms bans of one sort or another. Defense attorney Bjorn Brunvand told the Tampa Bay Times his client has "brain abnormalities" that can affect decision-making. Parilla underwent two brain imaging scans that will be discussed by experts during his two-week sentencing set to begin Tuesday with jury selection. The American campaign against Russia´s use of nerve gas on British soil opened in the UN Security Council. Ambassador Nikki Haley held Russia responsible for the attack. "If we don’t take immediate, concrete measures to address this now, Salisbury will not be the last place we see chemical weapons used ... This is a defining moment." Hillary Clinton will bring home a most undesired souvenir from India - a fractured wrist. The former Secretary of State injured her right hand on Tuesday, after slipping in a bathtub at the palace where she was staying in Jodhpur. Doctors were called to the Umaid Bhawan Palace and diagnosed the 70-year-old with a sprain, advising her to rest which forced her to cancel plans to visit the Mehrangarh Fort that evening. But the pain only worsened, and by Wednesday morning she decided to get her hand checked out at Goyal Hospital. Doctors there administered a CT Scan and an X-ray of Clinton´s wrist,
