Trump kicked off video game meeting
with ´horrendously violent´ compilation,
participant says

Washington Examiner, by Steven Nelson

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 3/8/2018 6:12:50 PM

President Trump´s closed-door meeting Thursday with members of the video game industry, lawmakers, and cultural critics began with the president playing a compilation of "horrendously violent" gaming content on a laptop, a meeting participant said. The 2 p.m. meeting lasted about an hour and was entirely closed to the press, despite originally being advertised as partially open to the White House press pool. It´s unclear why Trump did not invite the press to cover the beginning of the event or the full discussion, as he has done with other White House events following the Valentine´s Day massacre of 17 people

Any references in the meeting to sh*thole countries where games are ´fought´, misogny, bigotry, homophobia, islamophobia, beastiality, etc, etc, etc....all sorts of culturally uplifting, moral character building video games that youth of today play....

The video gaming industry claims that video games have not murdered anyone, but it is clear that violent video games put “ideas” in the minds of some vulnerable mentally ill people, “ideas” that they would not have known about otherwise, who may or may not then go out and murder innocent people.

Billions of dollars are spent on advertising it an effort to influence the way people think and entice them to buy into your message.

Why wouldn´t a steady consumption of violent images combined with violent "music" lyrics and movies and influence a certain percentage of vulnerable people?

Parents should monitor their kids, but...today these images are everywhere and catching all of it can be difficult for the most vigilant parent.

And then, you have the parents who are so afraid that their kids won´t like them that they let the kids see and do whatever they want to do.

Apparently Trump started the meeting by running a series of video clip on a large screen that were from some particularly violent video games, and then he asked the video game reps to explain themselves.

Its true that video games influence the mentally ill, but that´s not the only factor. How much do drugs influence the mentally ill? What about alcohol? What about broken families? Would guess video games are a small factor compared to others.

I´m glad Col. Grossman was there. He is compelling in his book "Assassination Generation". He was a psychology professor at West Point, where he was involved in understanding how to train young men for combat (killing); and more importantly; how does the military training NOT adversely affect the soldier after his return to peacetime service and civilian life?
He knows what he´s talking about in this area.
The gaming industry also knows they´re doing damage, but the money is just soooo good.

Agree with #7. I am certain that violence in those games has a negative effect, perhaps less than some other factors, like mental illness, alcohol, drugs, bad parenting, etc.

All you have to do is see some of these games and you will know there has to be some sort of negative effect, all those "video game violence doesn´t have ANY bad effects" studies be damned.

Who conducts these studies? Who paid for these studies? How do you know that they are not in the pay of the gaming industry or have some perverted ideological axe to grind?

The last video game I played was Pong, but I can´t believe that killing people with all the blood and gore cannot not have a negative affect on those playing the games. But then I´m a person who can´t stand to see a cat run over in the road. I think it has to desensitize these players. The definition of desensitize is: make (someone) less likely to feel shock or distress at scenes of cruelty, violence, or suffering by overexposure to such images.

Color realists skeptical when it comes to science not backing up real-life violence as a result of violent video games, especially with revenue for the gaming industry at $4.7billion in2017, a 28 percent increase from $3.6billion in2016, and global revenue well over $60billion annually. Arguments resisting a correlation between violent video games and crime statistics citing a decrease in aggravated assaults unrelated to homicides avoid statistics based on age range. Most assuredly criminals vary in age; however, teenagers tend to be far more vulnerable to outside, popular influences and peer pressure with the potential for succumbing to violence.

Clockwork Orange comes to mind. Even recognizing First Amendment rights, the question comes to mind why are the violent games the most prevalent?

Profit motive is the obvious answer, but that evades the societal moral responsibility of those offering mass entertainment. How much of their "near occasion of sin" profits are used to fund the development and distribution of games that still challenge and excite while presenting more worthwhile goals than violent dismemberment?

Industry leaders who hide behind paid-for studies that "prove" no direct connection (a straw man argument) are craven and cowardly. Especially, for those who advocate that primitive man has a place within civilized society. Madness, pure madness.

#16 The violent games are the most prominent because that is the kind more people buy.
The game industry is a tough market. You can´t create fad sales through marketing like you can other products, nor can you build a brand loyalty that guarantees that people will buy your game.
Millions of people are voting for this with their wallets.

Tourists are flocking to New York City in record numbers — which is great for the local economy, but a bit of an embarrassment to the city officials who predicted that the mere fact that Donald Trump is president would keep foreigners away. NYC & Co., the city tourism-marketing agency, warned early last year that travelers, especially international ones, would view America negatively thanks to Trump’s rhetoric and “isolationism.” It even said the Big Apple would see a drop of 300,000 (later tweaked to 100,000) global tourists.
