Senators offer bill that could block

Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) introduced legislation on Thursday to let a court temporarily block an individual seen as posing a risk to themselves or others from buying or owning a gun. Graham said they are hoping to start a “national conversation” with the bill’s introduction. “Senator Blumenthal and I disagree on many issues regarding the Second Amendment, but we strongly agree restricting access to firearms by those who pose an imminent danger to themselves or others is a The legislation, known as the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Act, comes in wake of the deadly shooting of a high

Comments:
Be very afraid of anything coming from those two vile jerks. It just sends a chill down my spine because we factually know that leftist judges are perfectly capable of behaving badly. Who is to say that someone wouldn´t report a person who is seen as at ´risk´ that was just a vendetta against them. We see false accusations every single day. It´s laughable that Miss Lindsey wants to have a ´national conversation´ about this bill. Those on the left don´t want any conversation or their favorite, dialogue. They only want their way. Period.

This could easily turn into a soviet gulag type thing - if you are conservative, you can´t get a gun because you are a "threat" (the threat being you might convince a liberal to vote for the other side). I wouldn´t trust such a law if it did not clearly define and lock in the "judge" and the conditions. We actually already have laws that cover such stuff - though they aren´t always enforced (several recent examples of failure to enter info about whacko´s into the FBI database). If we simply enforced existing laws, that would be most of the battle.

If a person is a risk to himself or others, but him in a mental hospital.
How many schools have been shot up by a person while they were locked up in a mental hospital?
Dangerous people use many things to hurt others, knives, cars, trucks, bombs, you name it.
Or, just be honest and admit you want the people you don´t like to be disarmed.

A couple of posters above have it correct. Who, exactly, will make the determination the individual is posing a risk to themselves and others? What about due process? What about the ability to face one´s accusers in court? What about the premise of ´innocent until proven guilty?´ This is an insane knee-jerk reaction in a stupid attempt to make these two, (who are a danger to society because of their proposal) look better in this current hysteria. With guns, we are ´citizens´; without them, we are ´subjects´.

Let´s pretend this won´t be used as a weapon against conservatives and that only those with serious mental illnesses would be prevented from purchasing a gun. It still won´t work because schools don´t report troubled students and local police and the FBI ignore tips from the public regarding dangerous individuals.

Who gets to decide that someone is actually risk?

How long is temporary?

And who is going to pay the court costs for gun owners to defend themselves every time one of them is reported by vindictive family member, or anti-gun neighbor?

While I would agree psychopaths should not have guns I see absolutely no way to keep them out of their hands because no one or entity can ever be trusted deciding who keeps and who loses something as important as their 2nd Amendment rights. At least not until you have actually committed a felonious criminal act and in this country you are not a criminal until you have committed a crime.

Good question.
Commie judges, your liberal neighbors, liberals at work, liberals at church, anyone who finds out you own a weapon. Hackers will mine the gun registries, they will publish your name and address and any liberal can then out you as a "gun nut".

Phil Mickelson´s 48th birthday took a stunning turn at the US Open on Saturday when he stopped a putt from rolling off the 13th green. Clearly at the end of his tether after a shocking run of bogeys in his third round, the much-decorated American embarrassed himself when another putt rolled past the hole.
