First Church in Oberlin
discusses becoming sanctuary

Chronicle-Telegram [Elyria, OH], by Bruce Walton

Original Article

Posted By:Harlowe, 3/8/2018 12:21:58 PM

OBERLIN — First Church in Oberlin invited church and community members to the first of four discussions this month about establishing the first sanctuary church in the county. The goal of the two-part sessions is to inform church members and discuss whether this is something they want. The session, led by church outreach committee members John Gates and Anne Elder, included a small introduction to the church’s storied history of protecting people within its walls since the abolitionist movement.

Comments:
According to Pastor David T. Hill, First Church (United Church of Christ) is considering such action in response to a request made in November 2017 from a family seeking sanctuary from ICE. Local commenters point out that the city of Oberlin would not likely welcome Christopher Columbus because it abolished Columbus Day (favoring Indigenous Peoples Day). Commenters further allude to an Oberlin College’s staff member’s participation in conjunction with a student-affiliated altercation at Gibson’s Bakery and the resultant devastation of the Gibson family’s livelihood—a family business with an excellent reputation for 132 years, founded around 1885.

11th Commandment: thou shalt not virtue signal.

Slavery was legal in the south and illegal in the north. However, illegally entering Mexico is no different to illegally entering the US so the abolitionist argument is sophistry.

The problem at that family bakery was that some black Oberlin students were shoplifting, and the bakery owner called the police.
The college immediately took the side of the black shoplifter students, and the baker owner was accused of racism..
For the sake of the well being of that church, I hope they don´t provide sanctuary to criminals. If they do, they will be robbed blind.
And if they call the police...

Fine, then give them a nice hot meal to eat and a place to rest, then go call ICE.

What part of the Koran are they using for justification?
Jesus made perfect example by using a whip on and destroying the property of trespassers in the Church.
Now, they could replicate the slave days.
Provide sanctuary and an underground railroad that safely brought them back to their home countries so they could avoid ICE during the trip back home.

Would you consider a jihadist biased against Jews? Could a member of a white supremacist group be accused of bias against non-whites? The Justice Department´s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, and FBI Director Christopher Wray claim the 500-plus-page report found no "documented" evidence that political bias at the FBI directly influenced the findings in the Clinton investigation or the Justice Department´s decision not to prosecute the former secretary of state. Christian leaders across the country have taken issue with Attorney General Jeff Session´s usage of the Bible as justification of his policy that is separating thousand of immigrant families at the border. Sessions cited Romans 13 to attempt to justify how separating families was ordained by God because ´orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves and protect the weak and lawful.´ For religious leaders who still weren´t pleased with his usage of scripture, he offered them to ´speak up strongly to urge anyone who would come here to apply lawfully, to wait their turn and not violate the law.´

Taxes: Whatever you think about the issue of taxing internet sales, the simple fact is that the Supreme Court has just guaranteed that people across the country will now be paying more in state taxes. It´s hard for us to see how this is good news. In its 5-4 decision on South Dakota v. That meant a catalog company based in Maine didn´t have to navigate 45 state sales-tax laws to figure out how much each customer owed, and then remit that money to the

How´s this for sneaky? Sen. The Bush family has a famously adversarial relationship with English. It became clear this week that at least one of them is also illiterate where U.S. history and immigration policy are concerned. This was demonstrated when former First Lady Laura Bush took to the pages of the Washington Post to denounce President Trump for enforcing a statute signed into law by her own husband, George W.
