Rotten: Critics Absolutely Destroy
Oprah Winfrey´s ´A Wrinkle in Time´

Maybe she´s not popular enough to run for president after all. Oprah Winfrey´s new star vehicle, "A Wrinkle In Time," which opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, has been totally savaged by critics. The movie critic site Rotten Tomatoes gives it just a 46% rating, meaning the movie isn´t classified as "fresh," but rather deemed "rotten." "It´s hard to understand what went wrong - the cast couldn´t be more appealing, and the film is bursting with special effects. But as an emotionally satisfying experience, it´s a bust," wrote top critic Calvin Wilson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "While I´m generally

That is very pleasing to see. I did watch the trailer for that pathetic movie and it is was extremely painful. It is just more leftist tripe. You know it´s bad when the left leaning Rotten Tomatoes and reviewers mocked and hated it. I´m sick of all the hype surrounding Oprah. She is just another female version of their messiah Obama whose soaring platitudes are meaningless and tiresome. It also made me uncomfortable because it made parents look bad. That´s the norm now with those on the left.

The review by The Federalist is by far the best.

They changed the book and they ruined the story and lost it´s very soul. I love this book. I knew as soon they announced years ago, that Oprah was cast, it would be terrible.
She is too big for acting. The movie is not about her character, yet all the covers and interviews are all about her!

What´s sad is that this may turn people off from reading the book, which is simply wonderful.

I guess I´m in the minority. As a kid, to me the book was mediocre at best (maybe I should give it a go as an adult). The good news is I have no intention of seeing the movie and that was before the reviews started coming in.

I read a Wrinkle In Time when it first came out. I was in Elementary School and Wrinkle won a Newberry Award for best children´s novel that year.

Some of it was confusing, but the overall theme was the power of love within one´s immediate family. When the first movie version of the book came out in 2004, we got a dvd copy, but my daughters didn´t care for it very much.

And now the attempt to take an already difficult story-line and turn it into universal man-kind love story has me giggling. Well I hope Oprah and her supporters spent A LOT OF MONEY making this movie. Serves them right.

I read it as a child, and the only thing I remembered was the term "tesseract" and that it somehow involved time travel. I read the synopsis in Wikipedia, and none of it rang a bell except the tesseract. As an adult the plot seemed convoluted and contrived. Considering that I found the book so forgettable (unlike "The Secret Garden, "A Little Princess," "Charlotte´s Web," and other beloved classics), I´ll give the movie a pass.

The fat female Tony Robbins believes that she is talented at everything but it turns out that she is nothing but a big-mouthed windbag. The only person in the cast I have heard of is Witherspoon, which is pleasing to me because it shows that my break from movies has been long and enjoyable. When quality didn´t matter because movies were $1 a car we had quality movies. Now we have garbage served with popcorn and coke that costs the same as a good dinner. Oprah is going to run for POTUS because she just can´t resist the urge and firmly believes that everybody loves her. Go for it, sweetie.

I have wondered about how this movie would come out. The book had some subtle, but distinct, Christian themes in it. Themes that do not require Christian doctrine to be explicitly expressed, but which do not make sense from any other perspective. Since this movie most likely was missing that perspective, the reviews make sense to me.

I hadn´t read "Wrinkle in Time" as a child. I knew Madeleine L´Engle from her books about what it meant to be a Christian writer, as well as her non-fiction. I interviewed her when she had just signed a contract with Norman Lear to produce "Wrinkle," which never went forward. But I remember how proud she was of having final say about who was cast as the three Mrs. Ws, and the children. I asked who she saw as the Mrs. Ws, who are ancient beings, who love and guide the children. L´Engle said the perfect choice, for her, would be: Eva Le Galliene, Jessica Tandy, and Katharine Hepburn. Compare that to Orca, Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling! Talk about a travesty.
