Congressmen like Mark Sanford who sleep
in their offices? ´It´s almost nasty,´ critics say

Congressmen who sleep in their D.C. offices — including Republicans from South Carolina — are under fire once again from Democrats irked over where they put their heads at night. The bunking habit, they contend, is both an abuse of taxpayer funds and, as one Mississippi Democrat termed it, "almost nasty." A letter from more than two dozen members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn, is asking for an ethics review into the "legality and propriety" of members using their offices as overnight apartments. U.S. Reps. Mark Sanford, R-Mount Pleasant; Trey Gowdy, R-Spartanburg; and Jeff Duncan, R-Laurens, are

Where were these “sainted CBC” when one of their own was chasing skirts? The solution for this is for the Congressional members and senators remain in their districts and conduct their business via video conference.

Having to maintain two residences - one in your home state and another in DC is ridiculous. The states should own the houses for their Senators and Congressmen.

For example: A state could own a condo complex complete with security control and meeting rooms. The state could run a limo service for their state reps.

That way it becomes more viable for the non-wealthy who would like to serve one term and then go back to their previous job. Our leaders would be less embedded in DC and more connected with the needs of their state. When my company sends me out of town to do work for them they pay for where I stay.

And of course repeal the 17th amendment and have the Senators appointed by the state´s legislature as was the initial design. The end result of the 17th amendment was to give the MSM a large influence over who gets elected Senator.

I wonder what the Congressional White Caucus thinks about this?

Take one of the numerous vacant buildings in DC and convert it into a dorm, with a working kitchen and lounge downstairs. Communal bathroom. Women on one floor, men on the other. Problem solved.

They might even get more work done if they all have to live together.

An anagram of dormitory is "dirty room," and it might be argued that an office that is both worked in and lived in might be dirtier, at least before regular clean up, which is what all civilized people do anyway. There´s nothing wrong with a no frills lifestyle. Simplicity.

But why all the fuss? Rents as well as crime rates in the federal district are high, and congressmen neither make a great deal of money nor can afford extra security. A congressional office building would have to be one of the most secure places on the planet. No rent for a serving congressman. Then Uber to Reagan Airport for the commercial flight back home to South Carolina. I can see no reason to criticize Rep. Sanford. If that´s what he wants, who´s going to try to stop him?

Why should the liberal and socialist Democrat congressional black caucus give a crap if Republican members of congress snooze the night away in their offices, as that is no skin of the teeth of congressional black caucus members. Nobody else cares, but then again the congressional black caucus may be able to make a political issue out of their "concern" to a percentage of their very low information voting constituencies.

WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump urged Republicans lawmakers on Friday to drop their efforts to pass comprehensive immigration legislation until after the November elections that he hopes will see more party members voted into Congress. The Republican president, faced with a public outcry over his policy that separated children from their migrant parents at the U.S. border with Mexico, tried to refocus the immigration debate on Congress in a series of early posts on Twitter. Despite Republican control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the party’s slim 51-49 majority in the latter chamber makes some Democratic support

Washington/McAllen, Texas - The U.S. military has been asked to get ready to house up to 20,000 immigrant children, officials said on Thursday, as President Donald Trump’s efforts to roll back a widely condemned policy of separating children from their parents were beset by confusion. While no decision has been made, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has already assessed three military bases in Texas and would review another in Arkansas, Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said. She said HHS had asked the Pentagon “to determine its capabilities to provide up to 20,000 temporary beds for

Trump has complained repeatedly that the ´fake media´ hasn´t fairly covered the Singapore summit. The New York Post, America’s finest daily newspaper, finds itself at odds, like the rest of the country, over the hottest issue of the moment – immigration. Even saying that is not so simple. Because we’re really talking about ILLEGAL immigration (50,000 each month) and unaccompanied alien children showing up by the thousands in search of asylum. The argument takes a nasty turn over the wisdom of separating kids from their parents. Some say this is cruel. The government says it’s the law. A Louisiana mother of six children and foster mother to other children has a mixed-race family whose children thought that Blue Bell Ice Cream should change the name of a popular chocolate and vanilla ice cream flavor, The Great Divide, to “Better Together.” As Fox News reports, “Traci Schmidley, her husband, and their brood of six children were sitting down for an ice cream party at their Louisiana home to celebrate the end of a hard week.” Schmidley wrote, “We always buy Blue Bell, and this time we chose the flavor The Great Divide, which has chocolate on one half

Democratic Socialists of America member Allison Hrabar reveled in her actions Wednesday to the Washington Examiner, saying it “feels really good to confront people who are actually responsible” for arresting any illegal immigrants. One of the chants on the video says Immigrations and Customer Enforcement should be abolished. According to the Examiner, Ms. Hrabar is a paralegal specialist at the Justice Department. Ms. Hrabar said her actions were off-the-clock and not official, and that she
