When It Comes to Pot, Pain, and
Cancer, Jeff Sessions Is An Idiot

Reason, by Matt Kibbe

I am a stage-four cancer survivor. No, that´s wrong. I´m not a survivor. I beat cancer´s ass into the ground, dusted myself off, and proceeded on with life. I don´t consider myself, or the millions of other people who deal with life-threatening or chronic conditions, a victim. We are not. But surely, patients have enough to manage already without the idiocy rattling through Attorney General Jeff Sessions´ teeth every time he opines on opiods, cannabis, and pain management. That´s right, I said it. Someone had to. Jeff Sessions is an idiot. The problem is plain for anyone who has had

Sessions and many State health Depts ( start with NYS ) are a PAIN when it comes to PAIN.
In NYS you get get a refill on the LAST DAY your previous meds run out, if it is refillable, and the whole list of ´ controlled substances´ causes a nightmare for patients. I know that for a FACT, since it is extremely frustrating. ( Of course the Health Insurance provider also gets into the act, also setting restrictions and rules that the pharmacies and medical providers have to follow). If you have to, you go WITHOUT. The providers and pharmacies are actually scared of breaking a rule and there is a Statewide list that you as a patient are on just in case you try to get the same med in more than one place. I have been on certain meds for decades and they just add further mandates.
If you want to travel you have to make special arrangements to get an extra supply.

A tiresome rant from an emotional man who can´t see a difference between his personal experience and people who seek out and abuse drugs, doing whatever it takes to get them. And yes, Sessions is right - marijuana is a gateway drug.

If the law needs to be changed than it should be. In the meantime it should not be ignored and law enforcers should not be impugned for doing their job and honoring their oath of office.

The problem as i see it is that the government treats every patient as a drug addict and every doctor as a potential pusher.

Instead of addressing the actual addicts and pushers, the all knowing government forces real patients and law abiding citizens to jump through hoops.

Likewise with crimes committed with firearms.

I´ve been on both sides of this question. On the one hand, I have a 61 y/o little brother who started smoking pot in grade school (I was already out of the house) and his life has crashed and burned. On the other hand, administered in the hospital, it gave my late little sister welcome relief from chemo related pain and loss of appetite during her last days.

During their period of support deaths by Opioids have skyrocketed.
We are over 40,000 deaths a year, but they have a long way to go before they catch up with the infanticide lobby that kills almost 1million a year.

It seems to me that Sessions is simply correcting a wrong (one of many) made during the Obama depression: He is trying to enforce the rule of law, which Obama and his criminals either ignored or over-ruled just because they didn´t like it.

If states or Congress want to change that law, they can do so.

And THIS makes Sessions an idiot? For reinstating an existing law? Right!

P.S. Trump has done the same thing with many other issues!

As a surgeon I can tell you Matt Kibbe is the idiot. The prescription abuse by bothe doctors and patients is horrific! These opioids are passed around like candies. There needs to be monitoring and education of bothe patients and doctors. Nobody would denying the need for a person in pain to be prescribed pain relief. However the abuse is doing harm to our society.

hurricanegirl is completely right. Jeff Sessions´ opinions are totally irrelevant here. The job of Attorney General is to enforce the law. The goofballs in the obama administration were the ones with the bright idea to just stop enforcing laws.

It´s the job of Congress and the States to write and changes the laws. They are the ones that need to do their job. Not that Sessions needs to stop doing his because they´re incompetent.

And you know what? If marijuana is a "gateway drug" then it´s a free country. It´s up to *ME* to manage my own life. It´s not YOUR job to legislate laws to force me to live my life according to YOUR standards.

I´m sick and tired of my tax dollars being WASTED on a bloated DEA designed to lock up, feed, and ruin the lives of people who are trying to get high. This IDIOTIC policy is creating the outlaw drug industry and getting criminals and murderers rich, while putting otherwise productive citizens, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers into jail or giving them records that guarantee they can´t get good jobs in the future.

I find this writer is taking personally a correct statement that Sessions made to the general public. For every person in pain that pain killers have helped they have destroyed thousands of lives. Minor pain such as headaches and muscle aches can be managed through simple relaxation techniques or a hot tub. Doctors and others do not make money on self-administered techniques. Just take notice of the 80% of all commercials on television pushing drugs and you can see for yourself where the real profits are being made.

I think any lawyer or Fed official who thinks to practice medicine without a license should be prosecuted. Their own idiocy and interference is causing a large part of the opioid crisis. When doctors cannot help their patients manage the pain, thanks to lawyer interference, then those lawyers need to be prosecuted themselves.

I agree here, Sessions is an idiot, trying to avoid doing the job that Trump originally campaigned on. Cleaning out the Swamp. Trump needs to fire that complete roster of DOJ lawyers and hire new ones.

#15, that would be just fine if the dopers weren´t stealing, doing fraud, shooting people and murdering to get money for more drugs.

Do you somehow imagine that all the violence associated with drugs is just because of the law? And how about all the destroyed lives? I have seen one pair of young men, up close, flushing their lives.

Still, if I could imagine that they wouldn´t be continuing to use crime to support themselves, it would be OK. But they don´t, won´t, and it will not change. Dopers are criminals most of the time, because they can´t keep a job, and gotta have their dope.

Plenty enough problem with drunk drivers, and liver disease, do we need more of that?

One of the ironies of trade protectionism is that tariffs and import quotas are what we do to ourselves in times of peace and what foreign nations do to us with blockades to keep imports from entering our country in times of war. Or consider that we impose sanctions on U.S. enemies such as North Korea, Russia, and Iran because we want them to feel the economic pain of being deprived of imports. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May.
