Universal Basic Idiocy, Pt. II
Investor´s Business Daily, by Staff

Welfare: Long favored on the left, the idea of a universal basic income (UBI) is enjoying a current vogue even among some conservatives. But don´t be confused by the bipartisanship: no matter who likes the idea, it´s a bad one. The UBI idea has attracted a varied group of backers, including entrepreneurs such as Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, former Service Employees International Union chief Andy Stern and libertarian thinker Charles Murray. It enjoys public popularity, too. A recent Gallup and Northeastern University poll found that 48% of Americans said they would support a universal basic income, while 52% said they would

"... entrepreneurs such as Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk ..."

Anyone ever notice that much of the left is comprised of two factions. Those who are very rich and do not need public assistance and those who utterly depend on public assistance. Not many in the middle of the economic spectrum.

Using that observation, calling the left ´extremists´ is not inaccurate.

Breaking the back of the American work ethic. Increasing dependence on government. Increasing the power held by the tiny handful of politicians (and small army of Leftist bureaucrats who control government). Combined with the history of government controlled economies which is strewn with failure, what could go wrong? It´s as if Leftists were born yesterday. They do not know that it was liberty, capitalism and hard work that built the mightiest economy and highest standard of living in human history.

A nicer name for Communism? I can see why Zuckerberg would want more idle minds on Facebook every day and why the government mafia union would want more worker bees but I can´t figure Musk´s angle yet. As for the "thinker" that one explains itself. The near-even split in pro-con proves that half of the country is still looneytunes.

Something like this was tried in Australia in the late sixties, early seventies and they ended up with the whole population going to the beach every day.

The writer gets that it is human nature to slack off when things are paid for by the sweat of others. That is what has to be addressed.

That almost half our population thinks this is a good idea is frightening.

Please note: this idea is supposedly "taking off" after President Trump has the employment and welfare numbers down dramatically.
This is another way to get people dependent on the government and to vote rabid demonrat.

#4, because half the population thinks ´equal outcome´ is enshrined in the constitution and this is a step towards making sure there are no winners and losers. Hunger can make most men get off their backside and work. This ensures that doesn´t happen. Not to mention the help it would provide in subsidizing druggies.

Not to mention that we´re broke, and therefor can´t afford it.

Why are liberals so unfeeling and stingy? It´s not like it´s their money. The minimum basic income should be no less than $100 billion per year. Why should Bezos make more than anyone else? UNFAIR.

Taxes: Whatever you think about the issue of taxing internet sales, the simple fact is that the Supreme Court has just guaranteed that people across the country will now be paying more in state taxes. It´s hard for us to see how this is good news. In its 5-4 decision on South Dakota v. Wayfair, the court overturned two previous rulings that prevented states from taxing sales of out-of-state companies. That meant a catalog company based in Maine didn´t have to navigate 45 state sales-tax laws to figure out how much each customer owed, and then remit that money to the

When he was asked how to become a columnist, Charles Krauthammer would say, with characteristic drollery, "First, you go to medical school." He did, with psychiatry as his specialty because, he said with characteristic felicity, it combined the practicality of medicine and the elegance of philosophy. But he also came to the columnist craft by accident. Because of one. It has been said that if we had to think about tying our shoes or combing our hair we would never get out of the house in the morning. If has-been actor Peter Fonda suggesting Barron Trump be "ripped from his mother´s arms and put in a cage with pedophiles" does not horrify you with the obscene brutality of its message, nothing ever will. Scandal: Two agents and an attorney at the heart of the FBI´s Clinton email "investigation" expose flagrant political bias at the heart of that probe. So why won´t the FBI release their names to the public? And given what these key players said, how did the inspector general come to conclude that the "investigation" was unbiased? Were changes made to water it down? Before the Justice Department´s inspector general report came out, virulently anti-Trump texts between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page had already become public — except for a particularly troubling exchange revealed by the IG for the first time.

Popularity: President Trump can´t get a break from negative press coverage, but somehow his approval rating continues to edge upward. In fact, it´s now tied with where the "extremely popular" President Obama was at this point in his first term. The latest Gallup poll puts Trump´s job approval at 45%. That´s the highest it´s been since he took office, and it´s up from 37% at the start of the year. Although you´d barely know it from the press Trump gets, his approval number has been on a slow but relatively steady rise all year. Not only that, but Trump´s approval

I´m tired. Done in by network and cable news alike. Fried from frequenting online publications and opinion sites. Pooped in perusing breathless alerts on my devices. I´ve had it. And I´m not alone. A Pew Research study recently found that nearly 7 in 10 Americans suffer from "news fatigue" — a phenomenon even more pervasive among Republicans. The survey focused on the volume as much as the quality of the offerings. But why wouldn´t the public be emotionally expended from the anger and accusations, bullying and backbiting, "fake news" and "fact checks," insults and innuendo, posturing and protests, threats and trolling, and virtue-signaling and violent rhetoric

Upset because Facebook and Google invade your privacy? Be glad you don´t live in China. Facebook and other Western apps are banned there. The government views their openness as a threat. So the Chinese use platforms like WeChat and Alibaba. Now the Chinese government takes data from those platforms to assign all people who use them a "social credit score." In other words, the government monitors your web activity and gives you a grade. Your purchases, social interactions and political activity will determine what privileges you get. That it is cited and even relied upon by The New York Times, Facebook, Amazon, Google, CNN and others, and that Apple gave the organization a million dollars, is testimony to the moral state of mainstream media and corporate culture in America today. Separating Families At The Border:

Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,

Liberals are reaching critical mass in the Democratic Party. While not strong enough to win all party contests, the left increasingly defines them. Their rise is clear over the past five presidential elections, and 2018 indicates they will be even stronger in the 2020s. The 2016 election was the latest manifestation of the left´s ascendancy in the Democratic Party. Consistently winning 40%-plus of the popular vote, Sanders rode this wave wire-to-wire. Only establishment-dominated superdelegates prevented 2016´s nomination from having to be decided on the convention floor. Liberals´ share of presidential voters has increased almost one-third since 2000. Exit polling in 2000 showed

Scandal: The long-awaited report from the Justice Department´s inspector general about the FBI´s handling of the Clinton email scandal seems to absolve the bureau of any political bias. What it really shows, however, is that the FBI — under pressure from President Obama — was just going through the motions the whole time. Most of the focus of the report in the news has been on its criticism of then FBI director James Comey. The IG says that some of his actions were "extraordinary and insubordinate" — a scathing indictment if there ever was one. It is another black mark on Comey's already badly tarnished reputation, and well

The Bush family has a famously adversarial relationship with English. It became clear this week that at least one of them is also illiterate where U.S. history and immigration policy are concerned. This was demonstrated when former First Lady Laura Bush took to the pages of the Washington Post to denounce President Trump for enforcing a statute signed into law by her own husband, George W. Even worse, she compared the HHS facilities where the children of illegal immigrants are briefly housed to the infamous internment camps where Democrat icon FDR imprisoned 110,000 American citizens of Japanese descent.
