Universal Basic Idiocy, Pt. II
Investor´s Business Daily, by Staff

Welfare: Long favored on the left, the idea of a universal basic income (UBI) is enjoying a current vogue even among some conservatives. But don´t be confused by the bipartisanship: no matter who likes the idea, it´s a bad one. The UBI idea has attracted a varied group of backers, including entrepreneurs such as Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, former Service Employees International Union chief Andy Stern and libertarian thinker Charles Murray. It enjoys public popularity, too. A recent Gallup and Northeastern University poll found that 48% of Americans said they would support a universal basic income, while 52% said they would

"... entrepreneurs such as Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk ..."

Anyone ever notice that much of the left is comprised of two factions. Those who are very rich and do not need public assistance and those who utterly depend on public assistance. Not many in the middle of the economic spectrum.

Using that observation, calling the left ´extremists´ is not inaccurate.

Breaking the back of the American work ethic. Increasing dependence on government. Increasing the power held by the tiny handful of politicians (and small army of Leftist bureaucrats who control government). Combined with the history of government controlled economies which is strewn with failure, what could go wrong? It´s as if Leftists were born yesterday. They do not know that it was liberty, capitalism and hard work that built the mightiest economy and highest standard of living in human history.

A nicer name for Communism? I can see why Zuckerberg would want more idle minds on Facebook every day and why the government mafia union would want more worker bees but I can´t figure Musk´s angle yet. As for the "thinker" that one explains itself. The near-even split in pro-con proves that half of the country is still looneytunes.

Something like this was tried in Australia in the late sixties, early seventies and they ended up with the whole population going to the beach every day.

The writer gets that it is human nature to slack off when things are paid for by the sweat of others. That is what has to be addressed.

That almost half our population thinks this is a good idea is frightening.

Please note: this idea is supposedly "taking off" after President Trump has the employment and welfare numbers down dramatically.
This is another way to get people dependent on the government and to vote rabid demonrat.

#4, because half the population thinks ´equal outcome´ is enshrined in the constitution and this is a step towards making sure there are no winners and losers. Hunger can make most men get off their backside and work. This ensures that doesn´t happen. Not to mention the help it would provide in subsidizing druggies.

Not to mention that we´re broke, and therefor can´t afford it.

Why are liberals so unfeeling and stingy? It´s not like it´s their money. The minimum basic income should be no less than $100 billion per year. Why should Bezos make more than anyone else? UNFAIR.

The leftist-organized wave of school walkouts on March 14 to protest gun violence is a classic example of the way protests are categorized by our news and entertainment media. 1. Liberal protests are authentic cries from the grass roots; conservative protests are "AstroTurf." How homegrown were these liberal walkouts? They were organized weeks ago by the Women´s March on Washington leftists. Liberal parents forced school administrators to knuckle under and allow the walkouts without punishment. They were supported by passionate media coverage and media conglomerates like Viacom, which dedicated 17 minutes of airtime to show solidarity. So, was this organized political activism?

Cold War 2.0? To anyone with any sense, it´s now painfully obvious that Russian strongman Vladimir Putin isn´t merely a pest, but a menace. His government´s recent nerve gas attacks on former Russian citizens in Britain and threats over Syria underscore a growing threat. For years, Democrats in the U.S. have refused to take the old USSR or Putin and the "New Russia" seriously. From the late Sen. Ted Kennedy´s treasonous overture to the former Soviet Union to help undercut and defeat Ronald Reagan, to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton´s inane "reset button," to President Obama signaling he would be

Markets: The morning after President Trump´s economic adviser Gary Cohn resigned in early March, stocks dropped amid concern that Trump was losing a free-market advisor. So, it´s worth noting that they jumped the morning after Trump announced he´d hired Larry Kudlow as Cohn´s replacement. Anyone who has followed Kudlow — whose columns have appeared in IBD for many years — already knows why he´s a smart choice. With a pedigree as a private-sector economist — he was chief economist at Bear Sterns — Kudlow understands the real-world impact of economic policies better than most ivory tower, prize-winning academics. Guns: While viciously attacking Republicans for opposing gun control, Democrats are celebrating the victory of gun-loving Conor Lamb in the Pennsylvania special election. What would those student gun control protestors say if they knew about that? Lamb defeated his Republican opponent Rick Saccone by a handful of votes in a district that went heavily for Donald Trump. It´s being heralded as a referendum on Trump and a bellwether for Democrats prospects in the fall midterm elections. What has barely been mentioned over the past few weeks, however, is the fact that Lamb ran as a something of a poster boy for the

Russia Scandal: A House Intelligence Committee report says investigators found no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to meddle in the presidential election. It´s time for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to say whether he´s found anything, either. The report, issued by Republicans on the committee, doesn´t deny that Russians were trying to meddle in the November 2016 elections, but that the Trump campaign had nothing to do with it. "We found no evidence of collusion," said Rep. Mike Conaway, the Texas Republican who headed up the Russia investigation. "We found perhaps some bad judgment, inappropriate meetings. Tax Cuts: The latest monthly Treasury report on taxes and spending shows that gross tax receipts in February were $1.4 billion higher than the year before. Weren´t the Republican tax cuts supposed to explode the deficit? According to the report, the government took in $238.2 billion in taxes in February. The year before, tax revenues were $236.8 billion. For fiscal year 2018, which started last October, taxes are up $50.5 billion compared with the same months last year, and are at a record high level for this five-month span. Shake-Up: The long-rumored departure of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson should come as no surprise. He and President Trump didn´t see eye-to-eye on many issues. What´s surprising is that Tillerson didn´t quit, but was fired. The reason: Trump is moving fast on foreign policy, and didn´t think Tillerson could keep up. Tillerson was rumored to be headed out the door last summer, and then again in November. As the rumors had it, he was fed up with the White House chaos, and in particular had strong differences with Trump on how to proceed with both Iran and North Korea. Former Exxon CEO

Excuses: While traveling in India over the weekend, Hillary Clinton was still trying to fix blame for her election loss 16 months ago. That is, fix blame somewhere other than her own dismal campaign. But every time she does so, she manages to expose just why it is that she did lose. While in India, Clinton blamed married women for not being able to stand up to their husbands and vote correctly. "We don´t do well with married, white women," she said, because of "ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should." Then she

Golden State: California´s bullet train project, also known as Jerry Brown´s Folly, has turned into a fiscal nightmare for the Golden State. Not only are the cost estimates soaring, but the time table has once more been shifted back. Based on current estimates, it may turn out to be the biggest fraud in the history of public works. When you lie about money in the private sector, it´s called fraud; when you lie about money in the public sector, it´s called politics or "public policy." California´s bullet train is a perfect example of this. Early on, planners warned that the cost would

Hillary Clinton will bring home a most undesired souvenir from India - a fractured wrist. The former Secretary of State injured her right hand on Tuesday, after slipping in a bathtub at the palace where she was staying in Jodhpur. Doctors were called to the Umaid Bhawan Palace and diagnosed the 70-year-old with a sprain, advising her to rest which forced her to cancel plans to visit the Mehrangarh Fort that evening. But the pain only worsened, and by Wednesday morning she decided to get her hand checked out at Goyal Hospital. Doctors there administered a CT Scan and an X-ray of Clinton´s wrist,

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe on Thursday made a final pitch to the Justice Department about why he should not be fired just 72 hours before his retirement, leaving Attorney General Jeff Sessions to decide the matter with a deadline rapidly approaching. McCabe did not meet with Sessions, who was traveling Thursday, but with other senior officials, including Scott Schools, the most senior career attorney in the department. He arrived around 1 p.m. and departed four hours later. The decision could be consequential for McCabe´s financial future, as if he is fired, he could lose significant retirement benefits. The
