An Alzheimer´s drug might be
able to repair cavities in teeth

New York Daily News, by Ariel Scotti

Original Article

A recent discovery about an Alzheimer´s drug may lead to the end of cavity fillings in teeth as we know them. Scientists discovered the drug, Tideglusib, promoted natural tooth regrowth during its clinical trials on mice, which led to total repair of cavities. They learned the drug stimulates stem cells in teeth, which creates new dentine — the substance beneath tooth enamel that´s eroded by decay when a cavity forms. When the researchers realized the drug was promoting tooth regeneration, they soaked collagen fillers in Tideglusib, inserted them into cavities and saw the tooth craters disappear within six weeks. After the collagen

If this pans out, let´s hope the manufacturer and the dentists "find a way" to make the treatment affordable.

#1, are you kidding? They’ll embrace it. Dentists are the only doctors who keep trying to put themselves out of business.

Compared to the rest of the world, American dentistry is a generation ahead. I think it’s because they stayed out of government-funded health care. If doctors had followed their example, medical care would be a lot farther advanced, and much cheaper.

And before you ask: I’m not a dentist.

I have a fair number of filling in my teeth from the age of a child. I suspect many, perhaps most, were unnecessary. I hate to say it, but I think most dentists are dishonest money grubbers.

#7, I have had many dentists, moved around a lot as a kid. One Navy dentist saved a bunch of my teeth caved in in an accident. Another saved my life when I had a serious abcess, 25 yrs later, delayed effects from the first event.

I have had only one money grubber, visited him twice, never went back. My current dentist is extremely skilled, very honest and a great guy. He was selected by my previous dentist to take over the practice when he retired, and he chose well. He has helped me keep all my original teeth, even after some pretty impressive trauma as a teen.

A woman brandishing a 10-inch kitchen knife allegedly screamed “I want to kill all you Jews” as she chased a group of children who had just left a synagogue in north London. Police arrested a 47-year-old woman on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after she was tackled by neighbourhood watch volunteers in Stamford Hill, which is home to Europe’s largest Hasidic Jewish community. She is said to have run after a group of around 14 children aged between eight and 13 on Sunday night while shouting antisemitic abuse. (Snip) “This is another worrying incident of knife crime

Tronc is dead, long live Tribune! The media company that owns the Chicago Tribune and the New York Daily News is considering ditching its much ridiculed name and returning to the original just two years after its rebranding. Tribune Publishing rebranded itself tronc Inc (the lowercase t is deliberate) in June 2016 in a buzz-word laden press release that was greeted with much lampooning online. Wichita, Kan. — A federal judge has ruled Kansas cannot require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote, a setback for Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach in a case with national implications for voting rights. U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson sided with voters Monday that Kansas cannot require people who register to vote to provide documents such as a birth certificate, U.S. passport or naturalization papers. The decision in a couple of consolidated cases makes permanent earlier temporary rulings. The judge said the Kansas requirement violates the right to vote under the Fourteenth Amendment. Roseanne Barr has become untouchable due to the "Valerie Jarrett/Ambien/Planet of the Apes" controversy, irrevocably contaminated by racism. This presents a problem for ABC, which canceled her revived show but wants the show to return in some form because it had high ratings.
