Eight things every Texan should know
on Texas Independence Day

Austin American-Statesman[TX], by Dave Thomas

Today is Texas Independence Day. You might be already in full celebration mode, plunging candles into pints of Blue Bell, swigging Pearl in a can and picking beans out of chili. If so, carry on, you’ve got this. But if you’re the sort who of person who passes by an elementary school and you are all … “wait, IS that Texas flag upside-down?” Read on, we are here to help.Texas is large. That feller in Van Horn might not have a thing in common with this lady in Port Arthur. The hippies in Austin might not ever see eye-to-eye with the

Comments:
Some interesting facts even for a non-Texan to read, perhaps. My Texas flag is flying and it´s certainly not upside down.

A surprisingly neutral and yet a bit humorous article on Texas Independence Day from the communists at the big Austin newspaper. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the political layout of Texas, most citizens of Austin are so far left politically that when driving, they will make three left turns around a block to avoid doing anything remotely ´right´ such as making a right turn.

I just took down my Confederate Battle flag which I fly all during February and raised the Texas flag.

Texas ... a whole ´nother country.

#1 has it right.

There is TEXAS, and then there is Austinfornia.

Our children live in Hays and Williamson counties, not in Travis.

If you really want to see the REAL Texas, get out of Austin!

They have a saying this goes like this: "Keep Austin WEIRD". They are proud to own it.

To really know Texans, get out of Austin, Houston, and Dallas--its not far from there.

That was a fun and interesting read, thanks for posting, but I found the following ominous:
"In the late 1820s, Mexico looked north and realized that Texas was filling quickly with armed white men who did not intend to speak Spanish, convert to Catholicism or submit to Mexican customs or taxation. Mexico sent its troops north and made a push to bring Texas back under control. Too late." Today it seems we´re filling up quickly with people who do not intend to speak English, respect our Judeo/Christian heritage or submit to our customs and rules of law. So, if we don´t address this soon will we experience Karma? Just an uneasy thought.

Of course Texas has the right to secede, as does every other state. Every political bond can be dissolved by the people. This right is granted by the creator, not the tyrant. This right is best articulated in the founding document of these United States: "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

And of course this right is not "legal". It was not "legal" when the thirteen British colonies in America rebelled against the Crown. It was treason; but they did it anyway. If a people rebel against a tyrant and lose the war, it does not mean the tyrant was right, just stronger. As much as I respect Antonin Scalia, he was wrong on that one.

"Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God!"

The Republic of Texas had a Navy. And the Texas Navy defeated the Mexican Navy in the battle of Biscane Bay.

This is immortalized in engravings on the cylinder of the 1851 Colt Navy single action revolver.

A couple of points: First, most of the people who came to Texas from the U.S. in the 1820s amd early 1830s came in agreeing to be a part of the Mexican republic, as established by the 1824 Constitution of the Republic of Mexico. They did swear allegiance to Mexico, and most became at least nominallly Catholic. The real problem began when in 1835 Santa Anna dissolved congress and abrogated the constitution of 1824 and basically became dictator. Among other things, he wanted to disarm civilian militias and establish non-representative government. Texicans objected strenuously. In fact one of the Texican battle flags was a Mexican flag with ´1824´ on it.
Second, the Texas state song should be ´London Homesick Blues´ - the Jerry Jeff Walker version is the best (on his Viva Terlingua album).
God Bless Texas.

I SECOND #8 - any time you hear some leftie or some person sneering about how Anglos "stole" Texas, remind them that the Old Three Hundred came to Tejas y Coahuila as CITIZENS of Mexico. They were given a league of land and the directive that they had TWO years to produce something of economic value or they would be evicted. Out of that Three Hundred only two families were sent away.

Remind the sneering snot that the whole war was over how Santa Ana basiclally trashed the 1824 Constitution (modeled after the newly minted US) because he thought the Mexicans were too stupid to have representative government...doing so is what made Anglo presence "illegal" not the other way around. The Anglos/Tejanos of Tejas were deprived of representation in the government and when Austin and Seguin (a Tejano) and others caught wind of this, there was talk about how they were going to reclaim their representation (even though all the taxes and money they derived from working their league of land was still going to the Mexican government). This was seen as "treasonous".

Don´t let the La Raza pukes get you down. The history of Texas was a replay of the American Revolution for pretty much the same reasons, and Mexico still hasnt figured it out. Its easier to blame someone else for their incompetence.

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation may face a serious legal obstacle: It is tainted by antecedent political bias. The June 14 report from Michael Horowitz, the Justice Department’s inspector general, unearthed a pattern of anti-Trump bias by high-ranking officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Some of their communications, the report says, were “not only indicative of a biased state of mind but imply a willingness to take action to impact a presidential candidate’s electoral prospects.” Although Mr. Horowitz could not definitively ascertain whether this bias “directly affected” specific FBI actions in the Hillary Clinton email investigation, it nonetheless affects

Almost everyone towered over her, but the mostly Hispanic audience appeared deferential. Federal authorities will no longer file criminal charges against migrant parents who cross into the United States illegally, a senior U.S. Customs and Border Protection official told The Washington Post on Thursday. The about-face comes just one day after President Trump signed an executive order ending his administration’s widely denounced practice of separating parents and children apprehended for illegally crossing the Mexico border. Trump’s order said the government would maintain a “zero tolerance” policy toward those who break the law, but the senior U.S. official, asked to explain how the government would

WASHINGTON - Decrying “internment camps,” Democrats and their supporters disrupted a high-profile U.S. congressional hearing on Tuesday with a dramatic protest against the Trump administration’s policy of detaining immigrant children separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. With the sound of a young child crying in the background, the top Democrat on the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, Jerrold Nadler, broke from traditional protocol and started reading from a statement, saying “these children are not animals.” His Republican colleagues tried to shout over him “Out of order!”

We’d learned every Steve Miller Band classic rock hit from 93.3 The Bone, but we had no idea what the guy looked like. Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s 500-page report covers plenty, but it can be distilled to two words he uses to describe the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the 2016 election: insubordination and bias. Two terms that are chilling in connection with such a powerful agency. That won’t be the message from Democrats and most of the press, who will focus on a few episodes they will claim cost Hillary Clinton an election. Watch for them to blame former FBI Director James Comey, whom the report faults for “a serious error of judgment,” for having “concealed information” from superiors, and for “violation of or

More than any federal agency or department I’ve worked for, with, or against, the Justice Department resembles a cult. Its employees think they are special. They feel intense hostility towards the Department’s adversaries. They are fiercely loyal to the Department and compulsively committed to its ways of doing things. Outsiders are viewed with condescension and suspicion, if not contempt. Obviously, many DOJ employees do not buy fully into the cult, but many do. Those who rise to the top tend to embrace it the most. This brings us to Rod Rosenstein, a career DOJ attorney who joined the department in 1990.

Taxes: Whatever you think about the issue of taxing internet sales, the simple fact is that the Supreme Court has just guaranteed that people across the country will now be paying more in state taxes. It´s hard for us to see how this is good news. In its 5-4 decision on South Dakota v.
