President Donald Trump is preparing to announce steel and aluminum tariffs on Thursday. “Our Steel and Aluminum industries (and many others) have been decimated by decades of unfair trade and bad policy with countries from around the world,” Trump wrote on Twitter. Bloomberg’s Jennifer Jacobs revealed that Trump may increase tariffs by as much as 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminium.

Tariffs = Taxes on consumers = higher prices and costs on products using these materials.
Read my lips: No new tariffs.

The issue of tariffs is where I disagree most with President Trump, who needs to be reminded that the Smoot-Hawley tariff at the beginning of the Great Depression (1929-1941) both lengthened and deepened it. Bad thought, worse execution. Protectionism is a terrible idea. As #1 reminds us, tariffs lead to higher prices.

I hope this is a threat to countries subsidising export of metals to under-cut our producers and will be withdrawn once they comply.

Tariffs are one of the most destructive actions an administration can take-- at home and abroad.

American made metals are among the best in the world, next to those from Europe and Japan. China floods the market with junk, like their stainless steel that rusts. Yeah, by definition SS is not supposed to rust, but Chinese stainless does. Ironically, metals used in China are actually better than what they export. Dumb American companies are getting bilked by the Commie Red Star.

Trump merely needs to order that all products purchased by the government be 100% US materials and labor. That would mean that tax dollars stay in the country and work for the country rather than foreigners.
It would immediately boost the GDP by several points and create many hundreds of thousands of jobs.

Remember that time, way back about two weeks ago, when President Trump berated leaders of his own party, in front of a room full of cameras, for being afraid of the NRA, and he vowed to pass a bipartisan bill that would make it harder for kids to get assault rifles? Yeah, well, in case you missed the latest — which wouldn’t have been hard, since the one-day story was instantly eclipsed by a Cabinet shakeup and a special election — that whole thing went away Monday with a mumbled “never mind” from the White House.

The day after the Department of Justice fired Andrew McCabe for making illegal leaks and lying about them, Robert Mueller leaked once again details about his investigation to the press. This time the self-serving scoop went to the Associated Press. "Andrew McCabe, the onetime FBI deputy director long scorned by President Donald Trump and just fired by the attorney general, kept personal memos detailing interactions with the president that have been provided to the special counsel’s office and are similar to the notes compiled by dismissed FBI chief James Comey," the Associated Press reported.

I never watched "The Matrix" but I am familiar with this blockbuster because it impacted American culture, and still does 19 years after its premiere. In the science fiction world of this movie, people can take the red pill or the blue pill. If you take the blue pill, you see a happy peaceful world. If you take the red pill, you see reality. That reality the red pill reveals is harsh because it robs you of everything you thought you knew, which is now untrue. I can see the appeal of the blue pill.

First there was the casual sexism: the reason white women didn’t back her when she ran for president, Hillary Clinton believes, is “a sort of ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should.” Have you noticed that her sneering always seems to take the same form? She’s become the queen of the contemptuous listicle that tails off into a snarling “whatever.” Remember the formulation in the speech where she came up with the term “basket of deplorables?” “You could put half of Trump´s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables,” Hillary said.
