Why real Americans don´t care
for these Winter Olympics

Daily Mail [UK], by Jack Engelhard

Original Article

Posted By:Attercliffe, 2/20/2018 6:06:54 AM

If I had a say in this, there’d be only two countries taking part in Winter Olympics 2018 – the United States versus Russia. We don’t need the rest. Like it was when we beat them in hockey, 1980. As you can see, there are too many countries around the world…too many, absolutely, around Pyeonchang, which is in South Korea. Was that really the best choice? Never mind. That’s another topic. But I must say this – my Uncle Marv did return (wounded) from the war there; but 33,652 other Americans did not. It’s called “The Forgotten War.” I’ll bet it is not forgotten

I can´t watch because it appears the media want to make buggery a major Olympic event.

An athlete publicly whines because he did not get chosen to carry the flag, which is not fair because he is black or something. Our Vice President is disrespected by the boringly predictable liberal media. And the same cabal of morons drool all over the sister of a murdering dictator - a woman who would have them beheaded in her own country. No, I am not interested in the Winter Olympics.

I can´t watch because:
* The commentary is insipid.
* The nbcsports website is awful. No functional organization and when you get looking for anything, you get spoiler headlines on everything you haven´t watched, yet.
* You can´t watch anything live on broadcast, but you could watch the track and field championships live this week on CNBC. ????
* What is shown on broadcast is driven by teenagers with pants around their knees or metrosexuals.
* Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir. One looks like a man dressed as a woman, and the other looks like a woman dressed as a man.

As for Israeli publications, why to they all read like topic sentences with no paragraphs?

Real Americans.....! What a rotten premise based on his own warped sense of being a Patriotic American. Opinions are like belly-buttons. Everyone´s got one.

I happen to love some of the sports such as the skiing. These kids spend years to become finely tuned athletes in order to compete.

If it´s location then let´s talk about that. My father-in-law laid under the bodies of seven dead soldiers for three days before he was rescued. He had the scars of seven bullets that went up his back when the Norks machine gunned those in the pit to make sure they were dead. He was the only survivor.

Though that was my wife´s father just maybe I can still qualify as a "Real American" even though I do love the sports involved. (I must admit that watching them can be tedious if overdone. But in small doses I do enjoy some aspects.)

In most events I sense no connection to the audience. It´s kinda eerie. At some ice skating events the arena was half empty and there was just scattered cheering - and most often for someone we had never heard of before.
NBC rarely shows any Americans unless they are furiously waving a rainbow-colored flag.

For those of you Ldotters that long the games of the past where real talented athletes competed with each other, go back to the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. Those were the games. Watch again the super duo Torvill and Dean winning the only ever perfect score skating to "Bolero". Watch again Katarina Vitt skating to "Carmen" and blowing the audience away. Also skiers like Tommy Moe and Peekaboo Street. How could they top that when they are more concerned with anti Trump, anti America and rainbow fruitcakes. So, nobody is watching. I am glad they are all losing.

I tried to watch them, but became bored with the Sunday talk show format and commercials that dominated the telecast. When the actual competition was shown, it was of events like hockey with Upper Slobobia against Lower Slobobia, or sliding rocks. The long interview of the gay athlete who trashed the Vice President and finished sixth in his event did it for me.

Well I like the Winter Olympics despite Rippon, Gus & Lindsay who should go off and reassess their wonderfulness. Give me Scott Hamilton & Tanith White over Hot Lips Tara & Fancy Pants Johnny moderating the figure skating - please!

I love the aerials - skiing or snowboarding even the 1/2 tube, that takes stamina & guts vs. the biathlon which is stamina & skill with a rifle.

Do I long for the coverage we had years ago (via Wide World of Sports) yes. Do I wish there was less quad jumping and more artistic skill in figure skating, yes of course; otherwise Michelle Kwan would have taken gold and not Tara.

To add to the poster above´s named favorites here is another - Oksana Baiul - The Swan in 1994. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI27ulyzUoM
fortunately we can visit the past via Youtube.

Aside from the olympics being used as a gay agenda promotion scheme, the broadcasting is a mess. I happen to have a history in short track skating and enjoy watching it. Good luck. Ten minutes here, ten minutes there, then half an hour of inane nonsense from the moderators who know nothing about which they speak. I finally gave up, after wearing out my fast forward on the dvd. That black guy who didnt get to carry the flag because of his melanin content- icing on the cake.

My gripe with the Olympics is not with the individual events, some of which are beautiful sports to watch and envolve yourself in. My gripe is with the entire enterprise, they way the Olympics are run, the international politics, the exploitation of the athletes, and the crushing debt that gets saddled on the host cities and countries long after the Olympics have left town. The Athens 2004 ruined the Greek economy so badly that their debt load nearly brought down the European Union. And for what? So a small number of fat cat aristocrats can lord it over the host countries like royalty? Forget that.

The only winter sports I like to watch are figure skating, bob sledding and some slalom skiing. I watched several nights of the figure skating, then quit. It got rather boring since they all looked the same (not surprising since most of the top skaters had the same coaches and choreographers). Still having seen any bobsledding.

Have posted this on other threads. We set our DVR to record all the programming. Then we can remote control our way through the recordings, watching what’s interesting and sailing past that which is not.

Now I’d like to invent a way to eradicate the commentators’ voices - their incessant, often self-aggrandizing, chatter that makes it impossible to hear and enjoy the music the skaters are performing to. As for Tanith White, mentioned up the thread, she is one of the most obnoxious offenders. The queen of know-it-all, she never shuts up.

That said, NBC probably shot themselves in the ratings foot by gushing all over the ´gay blade´. Everybody in the country is not into the all gay, all the time stuff being put out. It hacks off a lot of folks who might watch a little Olympics coverage.

Now, it is a bunch of PROFESSIONAL athletes out to earn more money from endorsements, and dragging their horrible partisan political opinions into the mix. They only care about the $$$, not their countries.

I am simply no longer interested!!!!!

My own opinion, curling aside, the Winter Olympics are a lot wilder, whackier and riskier than the sanitized swimming and track events of the Summer Olympics. Turn the TV sound way down.

Roseanne Barr has become untouchable due to the "Valerie Jarrett/Ambien/Planet of the Apes" controversy, irrevocably contaminated by racism. This presents a problem for ABC, which canceled her revived show but wants the show to return in some form because it had high ratings. The apparent solution is to create a new show focused on the daughter character "Darlene," which would exclude Roseanne. Why . . . you promote him, of course. At least that is the way the Justice Department answered that question in the case of David Chaves, an FBI agent who serially and lawlessly leaked grand-jury information, wiretap evidence, and other sensitive investigative intelligence to the media in his quest to make an insider-trading case against some celebrities.
