Paul Bauer — husband, father,
neighbor and good Chicago cop

A daughter’s father died today. A woman’s husband died. A Chicago Police officer died. We, as a city, so often see only the last. The officer in his uniform, the symbol of law and order, of authority and protection. If only we could see them all — the husband and the family man, the friend and the neighbor, the officer on the job. If only we could see them all the time, not just when an officer is killed in the line of duty. When it is too late.(snip) Somewhere today, a wife and a daughter are crying, and so

Comments:
The photo of Cmdr. Bauer and his daughter taken at the 2010 Father´s Day Mass is heartbreaking.

A close relative of mime didn´t know him well but had paths cross enough to attest to the claims that he was one exceptionally fine human being. I don´t know about the rest of you but I tend to wonder in these circumstances if there isn´t a bit of hyperbole at times. Just thought I´d share that all of the praise that is being heaped upon this man is quite appropriate, he was the great guy he´s been portrayed to have been. A horrible loss.

I don´t like the commie times phony "hype".
I don´t like their "staff".
I think they´re full of it.
I was born there in 1949.
I know that place inside and out.
Couldn´t wait to get out of there.

That said, Chicago is a horrible place to die.....A good man was murdered. By a thug from the south side with a LONG felony record.
You know who that means...

RIP Commander Bauer

I think of the closing line in The Bridges of toko Ri, where the admiral, after losing a fighter pilot and the rescue helo crew, asks, rhetorically, "Where do we find such men?"

The same for our police and military heroes. Thank God that we still can find them, to run to the sound of gunfire, to stop the evildoers here and abroad.

RIP, Commander. Well done, sir. So sorry for this outcome.

A campaign worker for J.B. Pritzker resigned on Tuesday as fallout continued to hit the front-running Democratic candidate for governor over his comments denigrating several African-American politicians during an FBI-wiretapped 2008 conversation with then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich.(Snip)Pritzker was recorded in the wiretap referring to Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White as Blagojevich’s “least offensive” option to fill then President-elect Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat, telling Blagojevich “it covers you on the African-American thing.” Pritzker also dismissed former state Senate President Emil Jones as “a little more crass.”

President Trump’s personal lawyer admitted on Tuesday that he paid off a porn star who allegedly had an affair with his boss — but insisted that the payout was his own money and not connected to the Trump Organization or the presidential campaign. Michael D. Cohen said in a statement to The New York Times that he paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 in 2016 — but did not give the newspaper a further explanation about why the payment was made. “Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly,”

Former President Barack Obama demanded unspecified “common-sense gun safety laws” after the Florida school shooting on Wednesday that left 17 people dead. “We are grieving with Parkland. But we are not powerless. Caring for our kids is our first job. And until we can honestly say that we’re doing enough to keep them safe from harm, including long overdue, common-sense gun safety laws that most Americans want, then we have to change,” Obama wrote in a statement posted to Twitter. (Snip) Obama did not specify what exact actions he is calling for, or whether they would have prevented Wednesday’s tragedy.

The Prince of Wales appears to have made a dig at US president Donald Trump while speaking about the need to protect the world´s coral reefs from climate change. Trump once declared global warming as a ´hoax´ and withdrew the United States from the Paris climate change agreement almost as soon as he entered office. Speaking at an event held this morning in London, Prince Charles spoke about the urgent and pressing need to unite in order to protect the world´s coral reefs against the combined threats of climate change, pollution, plastic and over fishing. He said: ´This event is vitally important

Democrats immediately politicized the Florida school shooting that left at least 17 people dead on Wednesday and demanded gun control legislation, even before it was known how the shooter got his gun and whether any proposed legislation would have stopped it. Some Democrats blamed Republicans for Wednesday’s tragedy, without citing any evidence whatsoever. “Republicans should pray for forgiveness, for not only their complacency and dereliction of duty, but in contrition for the men, women and children we continue to lay to rest because of senseless gun violence and the cowardly inaction from Congress,”

Student leaders at a high school in the San Francisco Bay Area have decided that the national anthem is racist and outdated and have banned it from school rallies. According to multiple area news outlets, the Associated Student Body at California High School in San Ramon made that decision based on a phrase in the rarely-played third verse. “It was brought to our attention that the national anthem’s third verse is outdated and racially offensive,” Ariyana Kermanizadeh wrote in an open letter. “We had nothing but good intentions by removing the song so that we could be fully inclusive to our student

The Obamas are laying on the love this Valentine´s Day - while offering the world a peek into their personal music tastes. The former first couple, who regularly share sweet, loved-up public messages to one another on birthdays and anniversaries, both took the time to share romantic thoughts on social media this February 14. While Barack, 56, posted a cute image and heartwarming words, Michelle, 54, took the time to create a Spotify playlist of carefully-selected love songs for the occasion. ´Happy #ValentinesDay to my one and only, @BarackObama,´ the former first lady wrote. ´To celebrate the occasion, I’m dedicating

Washington - There is "ample evidence" that the Trump campaign colluded with Russians, but only special counsel Robert Mueller can decide if it´s enough to prove a crime beyond a reasonable doubt, the senior Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee said Wednesday. "There is already, in my view, ample evidence in the public domain on the issue of collusion if you're willing to see it," Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif, told reporters at a newsmaker breakfast hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. "If you want to blind yourself, then you can look the other way." President Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion

He preened with guns and knives on social media, bragged about shooting rats with his BB gun and got kicked out of school — in part because he had brought bullets in his backpack, according to one classmate. He was later expelled for still-undisclosed disciplinary reasons. The portrait of Nikolas Cruz, suspected of fatally shooting 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland and wounding 15 others at his former school, is a troubled teen with few friends and an obsessive interest in weapons. Administrators considered him enough of a potential threat that one teacher said a warning

NBA star LeBron James says President Trump doesn’t “give a fuck” about Americans. "The No. 1 job in America ... is someone who doesn´t understand the people, and really don´t give a f**k about the people,” James said in a video recorded last month with ESPN’s Cari Champion and fellow NBA player Kevin Durant. The video was filmed as Trump had come under scrutiny for reportedly referring to some countries as “shithole countries,” prompting Champion to address Trump’s “racist comments.” "It´s not even a surprise when he says something," James said. President Trump’s legal team is citing a three-pillar argument to convince investigators, and the public, that President Trump shouldn’t sit down for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller. Mr. Mueller wants access to the president as part of an inquiry into suspected obstruction of justice in the firing of the special counsel’s longtime friend, FBI Director James B. Comey, in May. The president’s legal team has resisted but not given a firm no. Here are the arguments against an interview. • The White House has given Mr. Mueller unprecedented access to White House documents and people. • There is no stated crime. •
