Paul Bauer — husband, father,
neighbor and good Chicago cop

A daughter’s father died today. A woman’s husband died. A Chicago Police officer died. We, as a city, so often see only the last. The officer in his uniform, the symbol of law and order, of authority and protection. If only we could see them all — the husband and the family man, the friend and the neighbor, the officer on the job. If only we could see them all the time, not just when an officer is killed in the line of duty. When it is too late.(snip) Somewhere today, a wife and a daughter are crying, and so

Comments:
The photo of Cmdr. Bauer and his daughter taken at the 2010 Father´s Day Mass is heartbreaking.

A close relative of mime didn´t know him well but had paths cross enough to attest to the claims that he was one exceptionally fine human being. I don´t know about the rest of you but I tend to wonder in these circumstances if there isn´t a bit of hyperbole at times. Just thought I´d share that all of the praise that is being heaped upon this man is quite appropriate, he was the great guy he´s been portrayed to have been. A horrible loss.

I don´t like the commie times phony "hype".
I don´t like their "staff".
I think they´re full of it.
I was born there in 1949.
I know that place inside and out.
Couldn´t wait to get out of there.

That said, Chicago is a horrible place to die.....A good man was murdered. By a thug from the south side with a LONG felony record.
You know who that means...

RIP Commander Bauer

I think of the closing line in The Bridges of toko Ri, where the admiral, after losing a fighter pilot and the rescue helo crew, asks, rhetorically, "Where do we find such men?"

The same for our police and military heroes. Thank God that we still can find them, to run to the sound of gunfire, to stop the evildoers here and abroad.

RIP, Commander. Well done, sir. So sorry for this outcome.

A federal lawsuit seeking to block construction of the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park was filed Monday by public parks activists against the city of Chicago and the Chicago Park District. The suit comes as the Chicago Plan Commission on Thursday meets to consider applications for zoning and other approvals needed for the project submitted by the Obama Foundation, Chicago Park District and Chicago Department of Transportation. (Snip) All these matters dovetail into the federal lawsuit filed by Protect Our Parks, Inc., with parks activist Charlotte Adelman among the plaintiffs. The lawsuit seeks a court order to

A gunman carjacked an undercover police officer Thursday afternoon on the Near North Side embarking on nearly two-mile crime spree that left two people shot in the city’s Gold Coast neighborhood. The string of violence began around 5:30 p.m. in the 600 block of West Chicago Avenue, where a man hijacked an on-duty undercover officer’s vehicle, according to Deputy Police Chief Kevin Ryan. The officer was unharmed. The man drove off and was spotted, again, near Oak and Rush streets.(Snip)“It’s troubling,” Brown said. “This is right in the middle of the most affluent part of Chicago.

Taxpayer tab for retooled roads around

Chicago’s City Hall on Friday for the first time put a price tag on the cost to overhaul the roads in and around Jackson Park for the Obama Presidential Center and a related golf course merger: roughly $175 million, with potential funding sources to include the state of Illinois. If funding from the financially frail Illinois government is to be a major source for paying for the Obama Center roadway work, it could emerge as a campaign issue in the race for governor and other down-ticket contests. Last October, the Chicago Sun-Times reported how the Democratic leaders who control the

A campaign worker for J.B. Rod Blagojevich.(Snip)Pritzker was recorded in the wiretap referring to Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White as Blagojevich’s “least offensive” option to fill then President-elect Barack Obama’s U.S. Senate seat, telling Blagojevich “it covers you on the African-American thing.” Pritzker also dismissed former state Senate President Emil Jones as “a little more crass.”

Conservative syndicated columnist George Will wrote this week that Vice President Mike Pence has “become America’s most repulsive public figure.” Why does Will think Pence deserves this absurd slur? Apparently, the columnist has found the vice president guilty of the heinous crime of being a decent man. Will announced in 2016 that he was leaving the Republican Party over the nomination of Donald Trump as the GOP’s presidential candidate. So it is no surprise that Will has become part of the so-called “resistance” to the duly elected president of the United States. He’s even become a contributor to NBC and its

Shortly after President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the Iran nuclear deal last Tuesday, an adviser to a top Iranian official retaliated by dropping a bombshell threat. The threat concerned the president’s plan to reimpose sanctions on Iran: An adviser to H.J.Ansari Zarif, the deputy for parliamentary and Iranian affairs within Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specifically threatened to expose every corrupt official who accepted bribes to make the Iran deal happen three years ago. “If Europeans stop trading with Iran and don’t put pressure on US then we will reveal which western politicians and how much money they

Sen. Lindsey Graham blasted the ´terrible joke´ a White House aide told about cancer-stricken John McCain and said if his own aide made such an error he would apologize. Graham, who has traveled the globe with McCain and is one of his closest friends in the Senate, spoke after the White House refused to apologize for the crude remark and press secretary Sarah Sanders fumed about leaks rather than condemning the remark. Asked if he was satisfied with the White House response, Graham, a South Carolina Republican, responded: ´No, not really.´ He called Kelly Sadler´s reported joke about McCain´s opposition to Trump CIA

Washington - Senate candidate Mitt Romney of Utah said Sunday a prominent Baptist minister shouldn’t be giving the prayer that opens the US Embassy in Jerusalem because he’s a “religious bigot.” In a tweet, the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee criticized Dallas minister Robert Jeffress for his remarks about Jews, Mormons and Islam. Martin Luther King Jr. once said there is nothing in the world more dangerous than sincere ignorance. Well, sincere ignorance had a banner day last week when President Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal. A CNN/ORC poll taken shortly before Trump’s decision found that a majority of Americans — 63 percent — wanted the U.S. to stay in the deal. But get this: 62 percent of Americans believed Iran had violated its terms. To me, the second result is the more alarming. That poll is proof of sincere ignorance of the deal on the part of nearly two-thirds of Americans. They are under the spell of Trump’s

Washington - Among recent pilgrims to the Arizona ranch of Senator John McCain was Joe Biden. The Republican, who has an aggressive form of brain cancer, urged the former vice-president to “not walk away” from politics, Biden told the New York Times. It did not take much imagination to see this as a metaphorical shove – into the next race for the White House. Biden has the desire, the pedigree – and the rage. On Friday, incensed by reports that a White House aide had dismissed McCain with the terse comment “he’s dying anyway”, the 75-year-old Democrat let rip, declaring

After months of swaggering hesitation, President Trump finally announced the United States’ withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran, to which Britain, France, Russia, China, Germany and the European Union are also parties. This action tramples on European leaders, who urged Mr. Trump to exercise restraint in the interest of international security and multilateralism. Federica Mogherini, the European Union’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, reacted to Mr. Trump’s announcement with a sharp statement. The European Union and the rest of the international community, she said, would “preserve this nuclear deal.” The question is how. Notwithstanding an abundance of

We’re all educated by our peers and, over the years, a good portion of Donald Trump’s peers have been thugs. Operating in the New York construction world meant dealing with S&A Concrete, co-owned by "Fat Tony" Salerno of the Genovese crime family, and John Cody, the notorious head of Teamsters Local 282, who was convicted on racketeering and tax evasion charges. Building casinos in Atlantic City, N.J., brought Trump into similarly genteel circles. Trump’s hero was Roy Cohn, who unfortunately was born too late to serve the emperor Caligula.
