Paul Bauer — husband, father,
neighbor and good Chicago cop

A daughter’s father died today. A woman’s husband died. A Chicago Police officer died. We, as a city, so often see only the last. The officer in his uniform, the symbol of law and order, of authority and protection. If only we could see them all — the husband and the family man, the friend and the neighbor, the officer on the job. If only we could see them all the time, not just when an officer is killed in the line of duty. When it is too late.(snip) Somewhere today, a wife and a daughter are crying, and so

Comments:
The photo of Cmdr. Bauer and his daughter taken at the 2010 Father´s Day Mass is heartbreaking.

A close relative of mime didn´t know him well but had paths cross enough to attest to the claims that he was one exceptionally fine human being. I don´t know about the rest of you but I tend to wonder in these circumstances if there isn´t a bit of hyperbole at times. Just thought I´d share that all of the praise that is being heaped upon this man is quite appropriate, he was the great guy he´s been portrayed to have been. A horrible loss.

I don´t like the commie times phony "hype".
I don´t like their "staff".
I think they´re full of it.
I was born there in 1949.
I know that place inside and out.
Couldn´t wait to get out of there.

That said, Chicago is a horrible place to die.....A good man was murdered. By a thug from the south side with a LONG felony record.
You know who that means...

RIP Commander Bauer

I think of the closing line in The Bridges of toko Ri, where the admiral, after losing a fighter pilot and the rescue helo crew, asks, rhetorically, "Where do we find such men?"

The same for our police and military heroes. Thank God that we still can find them, to run to the sound of gunfire, to stop the evildoers here and abroad.

RIP, Commander. Well done, sir. So sorry for this outcome.

The man who co-wrote “The Art of the Deal” said Sunday he believes President Trump’s faculties are diminishing — and that he feels obligated to sound the alarm. “We are in a true emergency,” Tony Schwartz said on CNN Sunday. “And the accelerated rate at which his breakdown or decompensation is occurring is cause for us, and certainly for me, to come on to TV more often, to tweet more often.” Schwartz told CNN’s Brian Stelter that he felt comfortable making that assessment because he had “spent an enormous time with [Trump] over a period of 18 months.”(snip)Stelter pointed out that Schwartz

As many as 80,000 Illinois home health care workers will get a second shot at recovering $32 million in union fees, following the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision earlier this week in a case over payments to unions. The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider its decision last year in a case involving whether the home health care workers, paid with Medicaid dollars, should be able to recoup money the state took out of their paychecks for “fair share” union fees between 2008 and 2014. Ohio Gov. Mr. Balderson appears to have squeaked out a win in Ohio’s 12th Congressional District, where Republicans previously won with “overwhelming numbers,” as the governor put it. That’s raising fears among Republicans about their prospects in swing districts this November. “What you had is a, I think, a message from

Tennessee has carried out its first execution in nearly a decade using a controversial cocktail of drugs including a lethal ingredient described by the Supreme Court as "chemically burning at the stake". Billy Ray Irick, an inmate convicted of the 1985 rape and murder of seven-year-old Paula Dyer, received a three-drug injection on Thursday night after the US Supreme Court denied a final request to stay his execution. The lethal injection consisted of midazolam, used as sedative during an execution, a muscle-relaxer called vecuronium bromide, and compounded potassium chloride, the agent that stops the heart.

Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows that the percentage of people working two jobs has actually declined since the Great Recession. It hovers at around 5 percent these days.
