Main Street continues to flourish under the Trump administration. The National Federation of Independent Business reports that optimism is at a 45-year high among America’s small businesses. The “Small Business Optimism Index” — a monthly gauge of sentiment among the owners — has broken the record for the measurement, established 45 years ago. “Main Street is roaring,” said Juanita Duggan, president and CEO of the group, which represents 325,000 small business concerns in all 50 states. “Small business owners are not only reporting better profits, but they’re also ready to grow and expand. Headline "misleading". "Bump" in today´s media is usually referring to the pregnancy of some "A-Lister" being noticeable. Whatever, the “Small Business Optimism Index” has come a long way, baby... Good MAGA news.

Hillary Clinton’s loss and
the ‘macho atmosphere’ excuse

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says the “macho atmosphere” of the 2016 campaign is what doomed Hillary Clinton. A more reasonable argument is that Mrs. Clinton wasn’t macho enough to make it to the White House. At a Columbia University Women’s Conference event on Sunday, Justice Ginsburg was asked again about the 2016 election, to which she opined, according to Fox News Insider, ” ‘I think it was difficult for Hillary Clinton to get by even the macho atmosphere prevailing during that campaign, and she was criticized in a way I think no man would have been criticized,’ Justice Ginsburg said.

Well, we finally know why Omarosa Manigault was fired from the Trump administration. According to a report published Tuesday by Politico, the “Apprentice” alum and current “Celebrity Big Brother” contestant had been using the White House car service as her own personal commuting taxi — and yeah, that’s not allowed. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly dismissed Manigault in December after learning that the former director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison had violated federal rules with her use of the White House car service, three administration officials told Politico.

Welfare for refugees — my,
how the U.S. taxpayer does pay
Washington Times, by Cheryl K. Chumley    Original Article

Taxpayers in the United States are shelling out a reported $867 million each year to support refugees who’ve been resettled in this country and make sure they have adequate food and clothing and the like. In the overall federal budgeting scheme, that’s maybe small potatoes. But at the same time, if we’re talking welfare — and we are — then it would seem the more American thing to pay for those already in-country, already legal citizens, before paying for those who are simply visitors. After all, tax dollars aren’t born from government labors. They come from the taxpayers — they come from the legal citizens. First dibs rightly belong to the

The Israeli military shot down an Iranian drone that infiltrated the country early Saturday before launching "large-scale attack" on at least a dozen Iranian targets in Syria. Israel called it a "severe and irregular violation of Israeli sovereignty." The military said its planes faced massive anti-aircraft fire from Syria that forced two pilots to abandon an F-16 jet that crashed in northern Israel. One pilot was seriously wounded and the other lightly. The military called the drone infiltration a "severe and irregular violation of Israeli sovereignty" and said Iran would be held responsible for its outcome, marking a dramatic escalation in tensions

American aircraft carried out retaliatory strikes in Syria against forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday, U.S. officials said. Syria´s state-run SANA news agency reported that the bombing left dozens of people dead and wounded. NBC News could not immediately confirm that account. No embedded U.S. troops were believed to have been wounded or killed in an earlier attack targeting a headquarters of the American-backed and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, U.S. officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity. The SDF is an alliance of militias in northern and eastern Syria.

Shouldn’t official portraits of America’s presidents and first ladies attempt to resemble them? The point of these artistic exercises might seem archaic in the modern age, where photography can take the place of the artist. That might be the impulse that drove the portrait choices made for Michelle Obama’s remembrance, unveiled earlier this morning in a ceremony at the Smithsonian:(Snip for video)The audience erupted in applause, but the head-scratching began in earnest almost immediately afterward. Who is the woman in the portrait? It only bears a generic resemblance to the former First Lady, if that, HuffPost reporter Sam Stein noted: Sam

Monday morning, the Smithsonian´s National Portrait Gallery unveiled their official portraits of former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle. And while both portraits are the work of avant garde contemporary artists, in this case they might be just a touch too avant garde. Barack Obama´s portrait was done by pop artist Kehinde Wiley, who is well known for his hyper-realistic portraits of African American men and women, often done in the style of the Old Masters or with backgrounds familiar to fans of classical, "old world" European art. Wiley recreated Obama´s likeness in his trademark hyper-realistic way, with Obama

President Trump has proposed replacing some food stamp grants with actual food. This has curiously enraged liberals, who you would think would be delighted to see "hungry" people getting food. The Trump administration is proposing a major shake-up in one of the country´s most important "safety net" programs, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. Under the proposal, most SNAP recipients would lose much of their ability to choose the food they buy with their SNAP benefits. But if you like your supermarket, you can keep your supermarket, right? I´m gonna go out on a limb here: I generally like the Obama official portrait. It´s an odd style, but it expresses him and what´s more, it reflects the art of his era. (snip) Here´s the problem: It´s not drawn very well. The work shows a lack of skill in the basic rendering of an image. The hands are out of proportion in size, even placed in the foreground, overly big. One might be able to write that off as intentional. But the front hand itself has problems in construction, at least if the aim is to create a realistic

President Trump’s personal lawyer admitted on Tuesday that he paid off a porn star who allegedly had an affair with his boss — but insisted that the payout was his own money and not connected to the Trump Organization or the presidential campaign. Michael D.
