How Wall Street’s ‘fear gauge’ is being
rigged, according to one whistleblower

Market Watch, by Mark DeCambre, Francine McKenna

Original Article

One of the most popular measures of volatility is being manipulated, charges one individual who submitted a letter anonymously to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The letter makes the claim to regulators that fake quotes for the S&P 500 index SPX, +0.26% are skewing levels of the Cboe Volatility Index VIX, -2.50% which reflects bearish and bullish options bets 30-days in the future on the S&P 500 to gauge implied stock-market volatility. The flaw allows trading firms with sophisticated algorithms to move the VIX up or down by simply posting quotes on S&P

Comments:
The flaw has to do with sophisticated algorithms used by trading firms to move the VIX up or down and led to “multiple billions in profits effectively taken away from institutional and retail investors and cashed in by unethical electronic option market makers.” - Interesting, especially considering how the Dow Jones plummeted 361 points just hours before President Trump’s State of the Union Address. Coincidence or affirmation of justifiable suspicions about the timing of that January 30, 2018 triple-digit drop?

“What I have accumulated here is absolutely shocking upon the realization that Mueller’s disreputable, twisted history speaks to the character of the man placed in a position to attempt to legalize a coup against a lawfully elected President,” writes GOP Congressman Louie Gohmert. Gohmert is referring to the exhaustive expose he just released called: Robert Mueller: Unmasked. And the GOP Representative does exactly that, shining a bright light on decades of Mueller misdeeds, stating: “Robert Mueller has a long and sordid history of illicitly targeting innocent people that is a stain upon the legacy of American jurisprudence.

(Snip) Mentally, those in emergency situations lose their ability to use their forebrain--the part of the mind that makes rational decisions, Larkin said.
