AN AMERICAN drone destroyed a Russian-made T-72 battle tank in Syria in "self-defence", according to US Central Command amid reports US forces in the region have killed scores of Russian mercenaries. On Saturday, US forces destroyed a Russian-made T-72 tank in Syria after pro-Assad forces opened fire on US special ops and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Colonel Dillon confirmed the news, adding: “The tank had been maneuvering with coordinated indirect fire on a defensive position occupied by Syrian Democratic Forces and coalition advisers. “The defensive position was within effective range of the hostile weapons systems. I thought I was reading the New York Times for a minute. A misleading headline stating Russian troops were killed, when in fact they were Russian mercenaries.

It´s the Express, not the Mail, but whatever.

I was pretty sure when I first saw the headline, the Express loves its dramatic all caps mode.

Labour has been rebuked by the equalities commission again after banning heterosexual white men from a conference. An advert for the Young Labour event said a person had to be under 27, and ´self identify´ as from an ethnic minority background, be LGBT or a woman to go. It sparked a storm of controversy and critics pointed out that under the rigid rules Jeremy Corbyn would not be allowed to go to the conference. The Equality and Human Rights Commission (ECHR) has warned the restrictions would flout the law unless there is a good reason for it. And they have

This year´s midterms may not be a total Republican disaster after all, as another new polls shows that President Trump – and the GOP – are on the upswing. A Politico/Morning Consult survey, released Wednesday, shows that Republicans have now squeaked ahead of Democrats on the generic Congressional ballot, 39 to 38 per cent, within the poll´s 2 point margin of error. The president is seeing his lowest disapproval marks since last April, at 47 per cent, which is the same percentage of registered voters who now approve of the job he´s done. Despite the recent stock market dips, Republicans are benefiting

BUDAPEST - Hungary’s nationalist government introduced legislation that would empower the interior minister to ban non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that support migration and pose a “national security risk”. The bill, submitted to parliament late on Tuesday, is a key part of Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s anti-immigration campaign targeting U.S. financier George Soros whose philanthropy aims to bolster liberal and open-border values in eastern Europe. The government says the bill, which would also impose a 25 percent tax on foreign donations to NGOs that back migration in Hungary, is meant to deter illegal immigration Orban says is eroding European stability and has been

LONDON - British foreign minister Boris Johnson will say on Wednesday that it would be “intolerable” and “undemocratic” if the country has to follow European Union rules and regulations after Brexit, showing little sign he will give ground on his tough position. Kicking off a series of speeches by ministers that Prime Minister Theresa May hopes will show a “road to Brexit”, Johnson will say the benefits of being in the EU’s single market and customs union are “nothing like as conspicuous or irrefutable” as claimed by supporters of a so-called soft Brexit. “It is only by taking back control

U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis ruled Tuesday that the government hasn’t offered legally adequate reasons for ending the program, known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals -- or DACA. Democrats immediately politicized the Florida school shooting that left at least 17 people dead on Wednesday and demanded gun control legislation, even before it was known how the shooter got his gun and whether any proposed legislation would have stopped it. Some Democrats blamed Republicans for Wednesday’s tragedy, without citing any evidence whatsoever. “Republicans should pray for forgiveness, for not only their complacency and dereliction of duty, but in contrition for the men, women and children we continue to lay to rest because of senseless gun violence and the cowardly inaction from Congress,”

I´m gonna go out on a limb here: I generally like the Obama official portrait. It´s an odd style, but it expresses him and what´s more, it reflects the art of his era. (snip) Here´s the problem: It´s not drawn very well. The work shows a lack of skill in the basic rendering of an image. The hands are out of proportion in size, even placed in the foreground, overly big. One might be able to write that off as intentional. But the front hand itself has problems in construction, at least if the aim is to create a realistic
