´Like a sketch by a sixth grader´: Outcry
greets newly unveiled Michelle Obama portrait
that looks nothing like her - while Barack´s
is likened to Beyonce´s birth announcement

Daily Mail [UK], by Ashley Collman

Original Article

Former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle were in attendance on Monday as their portraits were unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. While President Obama´s striking portrait by Kehinde Wiley garnered audible gasps of awe from the audience, Michelle´s portrait was not as warmly welcomed. Many online said that Amy Sherald´s portrait didn´t even look like Michelle. ´Amy Sherald should have met Michelle Obama before making that portrait,´ one user wrote. Others went so far as to criticize the artist´s skill, comparing the work to a kid´s art project. ´Okay legit that Michelle Obama portrait looks

Comments:
The Brits don´t try to sugar-coat the quality of the ´artwork´.

How appropriate, a pansy amongst all the weeds he has smoked and otherwise imbibed.

Hers? OMG? Did she want to look like J.Lo? Both have rear ends that require a lot of material! Decades from now, no one will know who the person is/was in this rather strange dress.

I think this was a big fat middle finger to "the house that slaves built (Obama´s words).
Now there will be all the white founders´ portraits and then these portraits of two unsmiling black folks. Actually, not surprising.

Barry’s portrait looks like he’s fixin’ to come out...finally. Michelle’s bears no resemblence at all. Someone on another site said Michelle’s looks like the actress Kerry Washington on whom Barry allegedly had a crush. That ought to rankle Michelle’s feathers! They actually managed to make Michelle sorta attractive. Shocking.

When the Lakerman Commission issues its final report, it will be a milleneum before another black president is elected, or a first female president is elected.
Barack and Hillary have damaged the product so badly,...voters will smarten up and remember.

But as I posted elsewhere, the artist who painted Michelle appears to use a style reminiscent of turn of the century black self taught painters. Google her work to see that, yet again, I am correct.

The Mooch would have better off choosing a Hatian street artist and painting it in Acrylic colors.

The artist has adequately shown that the Mooch is ugly clear to the bone; I am so pleased that this will be the "Official" portrait. The portrait has captured and gives great insight into the character of the subject.

The stupidity in choosing an artist based on race rather talent is apparent.

Personally, I think the portraits exactly represent the Obamas- I do mean Perfectly! I can not imagine a stately, traditional Presidential portrait of that jerk. Such a quality likeness would grossly misrepresent the man. There was nothing stately about that gum chewing poster boy for a street thug. Obama came from people who despise this nation and her people. So, it is altogether proper that their historical portraits are grotesque and different. A stately portrait would render a completely wrong historical view of what they truly were- Just hate filled, small minded, crude, tacky, petty people hell bent on vengeance and destruction of this great nation. The portraits are perfect representations of their true selves.

I believe the Obama’s love the shock value in anything. They got it in spades with these portraits. These two paintings will be a glaring difference to all the other portraits hanging in the gallery. All the others are dignified and representative of the office they held. Then come the Obama’s. They are all about being shockingly different. They do not understand or respect the tradition of a Presidential/First Lady portrait. They could have commissioned something more fitting to hang in the National Portrait Gallery, but purposefully chose to make a statement. Amateurish and lacking in dignity just about sums these two up. It’s not even a avant-garde, but comes across as trying too hard to be cool. Typical.

What a hoot. These portraits accentuate what fools the socialist Obamas are and thanks to these unwitting artists, visitors to the Gallery will be getting chuckles for years and years to come! Striking is the way that both artists have captured the essence of both of their subjects: her with a sour, hateful look on her face and him, a pansy in the pansies.

I didn’t watch the unveiling but I understand that Mooch was speechless when she saw hers and had to take a few seconds to come up with a response. Weren’t she and Smidgen shown the portraits before the unveiling? And if not, why not? And isn’t that beyond stupid?

Smidgen looks like he’s sitting on a potty chair in a Victorian bedroom and that he’s having regularity issues. Hers looks like someone else in a 1960’s “mod” dress.

I’m an artist but I don’t get what replies 19 and 20 are referring to - can someone enlighten me please?

#13 is correct "the stupidity in choosing an artist based on race rather than talent". Another post "an affirmative action hire" for a drawer´ (these are not artist).
This all reminds me of the ´poet´ Myra Anjalo (spelling is wrong) she was horrible like those drawings but it´s what the Obama´s meant to do. The couple together hate this nation and everything about. They didn´t take the National Portrait Gallery serious among all those ´white folks´ so why not flip America off one more time.
I think the drawings are spot on considering the subjects.

Mooch´s speech did mention that in the future, young black girls would visit the gallery and by gazing at these "works of art" would most likely ponder how they too could become First Lady in a Land that is soooo racist. Same slam, different day.

When she mentioned the visit, I hope she meant that the portraits would stay at the National Gallery and not be seen in the People´s House.

We are required by leftist law to give the artists a huge allowance for shoddy work - just because. Otherwise we are raciss..

I would guess that Obama asked Kehinde to paint him where he spent most of his time, on the golf course. So he was painted where we all knew he would be, lost in the woods looking for his balls.

As for mooch, no explanation, words fail. I hope they don´t end up in the Smithsonian or I will have to avoid the entire building. If it´s the new African American History building it will be easy.

At least Barack´s portrait bears a facial likeness to its subject regardless of the purposeless background. The headline is correct that Michelle´s looks to have been done in a grammar school art class. I would even go so far as to say that Michelle´s face isn´t recognizable in her alleged portrait, not that that´s necessarily a bad thing. Amy Sherald´s artistic talent can be described as nugatory. She can´t even draw a representative face.

The problem with the painting is you "can´t make a silk purse from a sow´s ear" Actually she should be pleased the kindergartner who painted it makes her look better than she is in life. The problem, as I see it,length of her thighs and legs would make her 9´ tall if she stood. As far as the kenyan´s portrait done by another black woman who has black women with decapitated white women´s heads in her hand (the original kathy lee?)in other paintings must have meant the green leaves he sitting amongst represent marijuana.
Weren´t they just a lovely pair to represent the USA?

In defense of Amy Sherald, the artist has a definite style and an extensive body of work. Certainly it isn´t what one is used to seeing in "official" portraits but it will be memorable. I would consider them the Jerry Browns of the White House.

Historically, much social commentary gets included by an artist into their work on canvas. The artist who did Obama diminished him and his presidency by making it seem like Dubya´s legacy loomed over his time in office just seems so obvious to me. This is such a bad portrait of what should have been an historic event for our nation. But turns out we got a small man, who leaves an even smaller legacy.

I suspect that this portrait of Michelle is how her sycophants truly see her. Feminine and lady-like in all her glory. When reality could not be further from that truth. I did like the dress in the portrait. That was okay. But Obama does not look like that, even with her own race denied to her by the artist.

The whole African motif isn´t doing it for me. These portraits are probably the worst examples ever done of a past president and his wife. I would expect nothing less from these to reprobates that occupied our White House for those long eight years. Look´s like they were done at a Head Start center, and were paint by numbers.

My first impression of Obama, he´s on the toilet doing what he´d done to America for 8 stinking years. Mooch has a left arm snaking over her lap, that´s at least half again as long as it should be. The artist, nevermind bogus accolades, has no concept of perspective. But, then again, consider the subject matter they had to contend with. The only thing to make them more realistic would be to add horns, tails and pitchforks to both.

Those really are bad. I looked at the collection of presidential portraits and my favorite is the one of Teddy Roosevelt which was painted by John Singer Sargent. The one of Obama isn´t too bad if you take away all the foliage, but the one of Michelle Obama is terrible. Her hand is bigger than her head.

I think his picture looks like Buck Owens. I have no idea who her picture resembles. The first thought I had was that the perspective wasn´t even close and the limb size and head size didn´t match. His legs look like an after thought. The leaves around the chair should show some depth as they wrapped around the base of the chair but instead looked like they were painted first as a flat screen of foliage and then the portrait was started or possibly were photoshopped from a wall of ivy with the portrait in a studio setting added on top.

The more I look at them the worse they get. They are both pitiful. These so called artists should get a woke call....

Marat Mindiyarov, a former commenter at the Internet Research Agency, says the organization´s Facebook department hired people with excellent English skills to sway U.S. public opinion through an elaborate social media campaign. The death of liberalism constitutes the publishing world’s biggest mass funeral since the death of God half a century ago. Some authors, like conservative philosopher Patrick Deneen, of Why Liberalism Failed, have come to bury yesterday’s dogma. Others, like Edward Luce (The Retreat of Western Liberalism), Mark Lilla (The Once and Future Liberal), and Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt (How Democracies Die) come rather to praise. I’m in the latter group; the title-in-my-head of the book I’m now writing is What Was Liberalism. But perhaps, like God, liberalism has been buried prematurely. Asked in 1972 if he believed in miracles, Billy Graham answered: Yes, Jesus performed some and there are many "miracles around us today, including television and airplanes." Graham was no theologian. Neither was he a prophet. Jesus said "a prophet hath no honor in his own country." Prophets take adversarial stances toward their times, as did the 20th century´s two greatest religious leaders, Martin Luther King and Pope John Paul II. Graham did not. Partly for that reason, his country showered him with honors. So, the subtitle of Grant Wacker´s 2014 book "America´s Pastor: Billy Graham and the Shaping of a Nation"
