New Controversy Rages: Do Official
Portraits Look Like The Obamas?

Hot Air, by Ed Morrissey

Shouldn’t official portraits of America’s presidents and first ladies attempt to resemble them? The point of these artistic exercises might seem archaic in the modern age, where photography can take the place of the artist. That might be the impulse that drove the portrait choices made for Michelle Obama’s remembrance, unveiled earlier this morning in a ceremony at the Smithsonian:(Snip for video)The audience erupted in applause, but the head-scratching began in earnest almost immediately afterward. Who is the woman in the portrait? It only bears a generic resemblance to the former First Lady, if that, HuffPost reporter Sam Stein noted: Sam

His looks like he is sitting on the toilet with severe constipation. But at least it resembles him.

Her portrait looks like a thin, tanned, white chick. At first, I thought it was just bad art. But then someone pointed out that it will be hanged next to a portrait of Mrs. Trump some day. An accurate portrait of Mrs. Obama would look like a huge butch transvestite cow next to a classic beauty like Mrs. Trump. Moo-chelle couldn´t have that. So now I believe this was very intentional!!!

So the misrepresenting portraits are suitable then because obama wasn´t the guy he said he was in 2008 either. e.g. The guy he told Rick Warren he was.

I don´t like them at all. President Obama´s is scrunched up and he looks very uncomfortable. Mrs. Obama does not look like herself at all. I can´t draw but I think I could do better than these.

OF COURSE the Wookie´s portrait doesn´t look like her--that´s because the face we saw everyday (for 8 hellacious years) had a permanent nasty scowl on it (and the painter was too scared to paint that, so he or she found someone else´s face to use)!

What cracks me up about this whole thing is just how awful these portraits are, and yet, the snobby Dems have to pretend like they´re just WONDERFUL. Indeed, it´s the emporor without clothes all over again! (I´m sure there´s a Frazier episode in this somewhere! Snort!)

The artist placed Michelle in a Jabba the Hut pose, which was the only way to deal with Michelle´s enormous butt.
As for Barack´s pose, it probably represents him quite well. Remember that photo at the white house as everyone watched Osama Bin Laden attack? Barack is slight of body.
Finally, Michelle made a speech, and made it all about racism.
Sad.

Personally, I like Michelle´s portrait. The artist did a really nice job on the dress. That it looks nothing like her is a bonus.

Barry´s portrait..... lol. It looks like someone photoshopped a bad picture of him and superimposed it on a nice looking hedge.

Here´s my suggestion: Transpose the heads on the portraits... that is, 0bama´s head on the billowing dress of fabric for a chaise longue, and the mizzuz´s head on the sitting-on-the-commode pose. Much better, doancha think?

The art is awful, but perfect for them. He gets the biggest, brightest, gayest portrait in the room that will stand out where ever it is shown. I´m sure he loves it. the background screams and laughs at us at the same time. Just like he did when there was zero backlash or notice over his gay poem to his ´nanny,´ or his blatantly fake Selective Service Registration form or the birth notification or all of the rest of the clues about his faked past. A perfect thumb in the eye to the world about him.

She gets an appropriately vague non portrait for someone that has more than a few questions about her true sex. Even if that isn´t really a question, the depressed, ugly painting is a reflection on her disgust with this country and culture, so perfect for her.

It´s rumored that there was a note on Michelle´s portrait:
"There´s plenty more where this came from. - Napoleon"

What Michelle is saying: I’m also thinking about all the young people, particularly girls and girls of color, who in years ahead will come to this place and they will look up, and they will see an image of someone who looks like them hanging on the wall.

What she is thinking: I hope it looks like one of them, ´cuz it sure doesn´t look like ME!"

Or, do they know the paintings are crap, and doing it all to show their disdain for the entire nation and traditions of official portraits.

Barry looks like he just sat down in a pile of dollar bills, very appropriate for him. They should entitle the painting, OPM.

Michelle´s definitely does not capture the hate-filled face that she presented to us. No resemblance at all.

Horrendous art but wait until they find a way to carve him on Mt. Rushmore. You know they want to.

Remember how women were complaining about how men sat like that on the subway. Also. Those stink weeds in the back are suppose to represent Kenya Hawaii and Chicago. Why Kenya. His father was from there. Not him And why was his mothers place of birth not portrayed. Art is suppose to make you feel good about what your seeing. They should get our money back. They got “took!”

2nd post apologies, but, I did google Michelle´s artist, and I should have noticed this at first glance, coming from a family of artists.
Her artist paints very much in the style of early 20th century black folk (untrained) artists. Antiques Road Show often displays such art works.
The problem I have with the rendition of Michelle is that the face doesn´t match up with her face. In addition, the artist is known for using grey instead of an african skin tone. She did that with Michelle.

As private portraits, the paintings are to the tastes of the Obamas. But as official portraits, they are inappropriate - the paintings are gaudy and will stand out in the gallery but not in a good way.

The bare arms of Michelle Obama are not in keeping with the usual dignity of the official portraits. She appears as a woman about to attend a garden party and the image is not at all representative of her position as the wife of the President of the United States.

Barack Obama´s portrait resembles him nicely but I couldn´t help thinking that he looked as though he were sitting in a field of poison ivy.

Unfortunately, like everything associated with the Obamas, these portraits are tasteless and socially defiant.

Media coverage of Hamas´s attacks on the Israeli border have been, as usual, a dumpster fire of idiocy and ignorance. Hamas itself now admits that "50 of the 62 martyrs" were card-carrying terrorists. One of the heads of Hamas just boasted to an interviewer: "This is not peaceful resistance." No facts or admissions will intrude on the media narrative, which is that Israel is diabolically slaughtering civilians because Israelis enjoy killing people. One of the tropes that is being repeated everywhere is this one, promoted here with complete credulity by the New York Times: International law allowed for the use of lethal

Of all known and imagined consequences of climate change, many people fear sea-level rise most. But efforts to determine what causes seas to rise are marred by poor data and disagreements about methodology. The noted oceanographer Walter Munk referred to sea-level rise as an “enigma”; it has also been called a riddle and a puzzle. It is generally thought that sea-level rise accelerates mainly by thermal expansion of sea water, the so-called steric component. But by studying a very short time interval, it is possible to sidestep most of the complications, like “isostatic adjustment” of the shoreline (as continents rise after

That was the point of a column Washington Post writer Paul Waldman wrote on Tuesday, which liberal journalists approvingly circulated on social media, adding their agreement. Waldman, who previously worked for left-wing group Media Matters, blamed Fox News and conservative media for the fact blue-collar Trump voters don’t vote Democrat. “In the endless search for the magic key that Democrats can use to unlock the hearts of white people who vote Republican, the hot new candidate is ‘respect,´”

Stormy Daniels’ crowdfunding

LOS ANGELES — Stormy Daniels has raised nearly a half-million dollars to fund her lawsuit against President Donald Trump, relying on contributions from a crowdfunding site. Her lawyer has repeatedly pointed to the public site as evidence that he and his client aren’t bankrolled by Trump’s political foes. But the truth is, no one knows precisely who is funding the effort. The more than 14,000 donations have been made mostly anonymously in amounts ranging from $10 to $5,000. Through Monday, Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, and her attorney, Michael Avenatti, raised more than $490,000 on

MELBOURNE, Australia -- When you hear "world tour" you usually think of superstars performing concerts in various cities for adoring fans. Not so with the presidentially deprived, entitlement-driven Hillary Clinton. Last week, Hillary Clinton came to Melbourne, Australia´s second largest city, and to Sydney, its largest, with a huge chip on her shoulder. The chip has been there since the 2016 election and seems to be growing larger with every appearance. As with almost everything else the Clintons do, it cost to hear her bitterness. Those who went to hear Clinton speak, more than 5,000 people, paid between $200 and $500 Australian

The Party of Some Women

Democrats have long claimed to be the party of women -- a political party that wants women to have a "seat at the table" in boardrooms across industries, including access to top government jobs, and equal pay. They wear pussy hats at women´s marches and carry signs touting various incarnations of inclusivity and "female empowerment." There´s only one problem: Freethinking women need not apply -- as the left only supports those who subscribe to its narrowly defined political ideology. Take the left´s unbridled attacks against women picked to serve in the Trump administration, including such respected professionals as Gina Haspel, a 33-year

There have been some ugly comments recently about Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. With the senator at home in Arizona fighting brain cancer, a young White House aide reportedly told colleagues they need not worry about his objections to CIA nominee Gina Haspel because, "It doesn´t matter, he´s dying anyway." At the same time, a retired three-star Air Force general suggested McCain cooperated with his North Vietnamese captors in his five-plus years in captivity, saying McCain´s nickname was "songbird John" — a baseless charge that dates back to dirty tricks against McCain in the 2008 presidential campaign. The slanders set off vicious battles

It was July 31, 2016. Just days earlier, the Obama administration had quietly opened an FBI counterintelligence investigation of Russian cyber-espionage — hacking attacks — to disrupt the 2016 election. And not random, general disruption; the operating theory was that the Russians were targeting the Democratic party, for the purpose of helping Donald Trump win the presidency. FBI special agent Peter Strzok was downright giddy that day. The Bureau had finally put to bed “Mid Year Exam.” MYE was code for the dreaded investigation of Hillary Clinton’s improper use of a private email system to conduct State Department business, which resulted in

It’s not the tawdry, no-class essence of pornographic “actress” Stormy Daniels that’s so grating as we watch her milking every misbegotten moment in the spotlight. No, it’s those who are enabling her. Having far exceeded her 15 minutes of fame, she’s doing whatever she can with whatever she has to maintain the illusion she’s a serious person with an important story to tell. She is nothing of the sort, and if her dalliance had been with a lustful Democrat — there have been plenty to choose from — her value as a newsmaker would have been lower than her neckline. But because she’s

CNN´s chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta challenged President Trump to grant him an one-on-one interview. "I dare him to sit down with me," Acosta said during an interview Wednesday on ABC´s "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" when pressed by the host.Despite his confrontational manner in the briefing room, Acosta told Kimmel he has professional relationships with former White House press secretary Sean Spicer and his successor Sarah Sanders. But he said they weren´t bowling buddies after hours — a similar dynamic he shared with communications staffers serving the Obama administration. "We try to have a

In case you somehow missed the legitimately insane drama, it was recently revealed that A) Meghan Markle´s brother wrote an open letter asking Prince Harry to call off the royal wedding, B) Meghan Markle´s dad staged paparazzi photos, and c) Meghan´s Markle´s dad was so upset by A and B that he canceled his plans to come to the wedding and is now reportedly in hospital for heart surgery. So how does The Queen feel about this turn of events? HRH is reportedly "very angry" with Thomas Markle Sr. for selling staged photos of himself, and honestly having The Queen

Democrats, the mainstream media, and left-wing reporters are twisting President Trump’s words in calling MS-13 illegal alien gang members “animals.” During a roundtable discussion of California’s sanctuary state laws, Fresno Sheriff Margaret Mims mentioned to Trump the difficulty of working with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to notify them of an illegal alien MS-13 gang member. In response, Trump called the MS-13 gang members “animals,” as he’s done in the past. Wednesday on Bloomberg, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) said the government should “start talking about” regulating pay disparities between CEOs and the average worker. Ellison said, “As you know, under the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform Act, it became required that the publicly traded companies would have to report the ratio between CEO pay and the median worker. It took about five years or more for the Securities Exchange Commission to create a rule. They finally did so now we have a data set of about 225 public the traded companies. We find that CEOs are paid an exorbitant amount of money’s compared workers.

Under John Brennan, the CIA operated as an opposition research outfit for the Hillary Clinton campaign. It appears from leaked news stories in the British press that Brennan’s oafish spying on Trump began around April 2016, right after Trump’s biggest primary victories. As it became urgently clear to Brennan that Trump was going to face off against Hillary, Brennan turned to “intelligence partners” in Europe for dirt on Trump. But they didn’t have any, save some pretty skimpy material on “contacts” between Trump campaign officials and Russians. Whatever Brennan collected was so insubstantial that Robert Mueller

Top Trump administration officials and Republican lawmakers offered heartfelt tributes to John McCain Tuesday night at the International Republican Institute’s annual freedom dinner, striking a marked contrast to the continued controversy facing the White House over its handling of a crude closed-door joke about the Arizona senator. “Tonight, there is a man standing here right beside me, and you and I can see him in our mind’s eye,” said Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, one of the Freedom Award recipients. “He’s a giant, in my mind, of American public life. A family-of-five say they have never been happier after selling their five-bedroom house and everything in it - in order to move into a 180sq ft trailer. Renovator Dino Petrone, 36, blogger Ashley, 32 and sons Gabe, 8, Gavin, 7 and daughter Quinn, 4, from Ventura County, had what many would consider an ´ordinary´ life in California. Democrats in Iowa, like Democrats everywhere, have gone around the bend. Last Thursday, Tom Steyer, a leftist hypocrite of epic proportions, headlined a town hall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A woman in the audience said that she couldn’t see any difference between President Trump and Adolf Hitler. Steyer suggested that a fine distinction might be drawn, but added that the urgency to impeach Trump–a nationwide campaign that Steyer is spearheading–derives from the risk that if permitted to remain in office, Trump may murder millions: [Video] These people are crazy, obviously. Free Markets: Big businesses in Seattle face a substantial new tax to build more affordable housing. This is after the city thwarted private developers who were building affordable housing on their own dime. Only to government officials could this make any sense. This week, the city council unanimously passed a "head tax" of $275 per full-time worker on any company in the city that makes more than $20 million in gross revenues. The city says the $48 million in new taxes will go toward affordable housing and providing emergency services for the city´s swelling homeless population. Major employers like Amazon.com
