You´re fired: Trump to rid ´worst´ federal
workers, automatic raises, fat bennies

Washington Examiner, by Paul Bedard

Original Article

President Trump plans to take the huge federal Civil Service off cruise control, ending automatic pay increases that go to 99.7 percent of the workforce, trimming fat benefit packages, and for the “worst,” rolling out his trademark phrase from The Apprentice, “You’re fired!” In his budget, set for release Monday, his administration is planning the biggest reform to the federal workforce in decades, using models from Amazon, Google, and a handful of well-operating agencies. (Snip) Gone would be the automatic reward of pay “step” increases of 3 percent to 5 percent which 99.7 percent of workers get, regardless of their

Comments:
That is excellent news!! It´s no wonder they hate Trump so much. All of the corrupt politicians know he will really destroy the swamp in DC. I´m not sure about following the wisdom of Google and Amazon because of some of their questionable behavior, but it still just wonderful that he is doing this. I cannot believe that federal employees are automatically given a raise even if they exhibit bad performance. It´s no wonder the government is going bankrupt and that is just one example. No successful business would ever behave like this.

Oh, be still my beating heart. One of the benefits of being willful is that the more people hate you and criticize you, the more determined you become to shove it back in their face. So all that hatred on the left has actually helped enable Trump to move forward with his agenda. Refreshing change from a Republican.

Finally! The typical government worker has gone from a joke punch line to a national standard. The failure of the VA is no laughing matter and the corruption at the IRS was downright criminal with no repercussions so far. Remember the study that published how many of them watched porn on the Internet and for how long each day? Remember the Obama IRS dancing their conga line on a taxpayer-funded trip to Vegas? The American taxpayer has been getting ripped off ever since some wise congressman decided that if salaries were raised, the government would get better people? The exact opposite happened and their average salary has ballooned higher than the private sector. Make their unions illegal too, that´s half the problem.

Some things that need to be looked at in this to truly start helping:
1) get the public union out of the way.
As a government supervisor at one point, my hands were tied on badly performing employees. If I tried to enforce policy and procedure, the union would complain even if it was safety policy/procedure which protected my employees. The union is the roadblock to holding government workers accountable.
2) fix the pay scale. The pay scale is not enough to get qualified IT workers in the current market. Marginal or bad ones, it is a goldmine. Qualified and good ones, the government doesn´t pay near enough to bring them in--so critical IT positions remain unfilled in some cases now over 3 years with an attendant cost on Border Security and impact to the public due to systems not being fixed in a timely manner.
3) fix the position descriptions. The PDs in IT are badly out of date and need an overhaul to reflect what IT workers actually do--otherwise supervisors get the it´s not in my PD and the union protects them.
4) enforce standardization and accountability metrics in program directorates to stop the kingdom building and find the poor performance.

I would really like to know what is in the budget for Congress and ex-Presidents. How much do we pay Congressmen/women? How much do we pay their staff? How much do we pay into their pensions and health care? How much do we still pay the Clintons, the Bushes, and Carter? We pay the bills; we have a right to know!

This is a long overdue matter! Not only should these reforms take place, but even more are needed.

Eliminate federal agencies´ authority to make rules and regulations, levy fines, and do all the other things that are the responsibility of our ELECTED officials! Those elected officials implemented the current system so they can get what they want, but have deniability. They simply say: ´´I wasn´t for it, but it was out of my hands...´´ Look at how the democrats have used the IRS and EPA, just as examples!

One partial solution is for the salaries for members of congress, the senate and their respective staff, be set and paid for by the districts and the states that they supposedly represent and not the federal treasury. That way, if they want a pay increase, they must lobby their respective state legislatures to get it. Whoever came up with the idea that members of congress and senators were federal employees was instrumental in damaging the very essence of our republic.

Something you all may not know, the step increases happen after 3-5 years in the current step for anyone over step 5. There are no raises in between except cost of living with is minimal. I agree there should be an easier way to fire employees who do not do the job, but the people in the higher grades like my husband have to get the job done with the employees he has. Not always easy with the unions backing them. Here in Corpus Christi, there are government employees who can´t speak or read fluent English but are doing inspection on helicopter parts using technique sheets they can´t read. Believe me, when my husband gets a raise, he deserves it!

The federal civil service has operated for decades depending upon about 50% of the workforce that is very competent to not only do their own assigned work in a superior manner, but to cover for the other 50% or so of the workforce who essentially are “dead wood” with the individually recognized “dead wood” being kept on due to political reasons, or simply because they are members of some favored identity group. When it comes to pay raises and benefits, to alleviate “blowback” from above, raw competence must be overlooked as a factor, and both groups of federal employees, the very competent and valued employees, along with the “dead wood” must always be treated the same by federal agency supervisors and managers.

The best and brightest (especially if very ambitious and conservative) generally stay in private sector, especially in many fields of engineering and software engineering. My son was offered several positions in DOD post-graduation but experienced older engineers warned him if he wants to learn from the best, stay out of government. It has turned out to be great advice. My son knows many software architects and engineers who left federal employment and were so behind as to the latest languages and skills, it was tough to catch up.

Two more House Republicans have joined the discharge petition to force votes on immigration, potentially leaving centrists just two signatures short of success. Reps. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) signed the discharge petition Thursday before the House left town for the Memorial Day recess. If all Democrats endorse the petition, just two more GOP signatures would be needed to reach the magic number of 218. House Republican leaders and conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus have fought to stop the petition, which was introduced by Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.). Leaders have warned that bypassing the usual process for

‘Cruz just dropped out of the race. It’s going to be a Clinton Trump race. Unbelievable.” It was a little after midnight on May 4, 2016. FBI lawyer Lisa Page was texting her paramour, FBI counterespionage agent Peter Strzok, about the most stunning development to date in the 2016 campaign: Donald Trump was now the inevitable Republican nominee. He would square off against Hillary Clinton, the Democrats’ certain standard-bearer. The race was set . . . between two major-party candidates who were both under investigation by the FBI. Why exactly did nearly half the country vote for Donald Trump? Why also did the arguments of Never Trump Republicans and conservatives have marginal effect on voters? Despite vehement denunciations of the Trump candidacy from many pundits on the right and in the media, Trump nonetheless got about the same percentage of Republican voters (88–90 percent) as did McCain in 2008 and Romney in 2012, who both were handily defeated in the Electoral College.
