The OODA Loop President
American Greatness, by J. B. White

Back in December of 2015, Dan McLaughlin wrote an excellent piece in The Federalist on the then-upcoming Republican primary race. It offers quite the window into the political decision making of Donald J. Trump. In it he accurately outlines Trump as the candidate employing the Observe, Orient, Decide, and then Act principles (the OODA Loop) of famed American fighter pilot and strategist John Boyd. Unfortunately for McLaughlin, at the time of that writing he, like many, rather spectacularly misunderstood who Donald Trump is in actual fact. His entire piece examines as real the strategically erratic character Trump has clearly created for

Donald Trump is nothing if not crazy like a fox—as unpredictable as Sun Tzu, and as fearsome like a boss.

Those who haven´t read Boyd´s biography (The Fighter Pilot who changed the Art of War) may be baffled by the OODA Loop references. Boyd was an exceptional fighter pilot, known as "30 second Boyd" in his fighter jock days because he could get on ANY adversary´s tail (in jet fighters) within 30 seconds of the "fight" starting. But he presented his concept of fighting as workable in any sort of combat, not just a aerial dogfight.

Today, the only large organization that I am aware of still actively learning, promoting and using the OODA Loop concept is the United States Marine Corps. There may be others, of course. It is interesting that these ground fighters have recognized that OODA Loop speed, "getting inside your opponent´s OODA loop" is critical to success on the battlefield. Of you can Observe what your opponent is doing, Orient yourself to his actions, Decide what to do, and actually Act on that decision more quickly than your opponent, you will run him in circles, and you will win the contest, whether it be a war, a political event, or a dogfight. Once you go through one loop, you then observe again, orient again, decide again, and act again. Endless OODA loops, baffling your slower to respond enemy. This faster processing is "inside the enemy loop", you are doing a new action before they actually process the last one.

I would agree that Trump is running way, way inside the Dems OODA loop and they are losing badly.

Although OODA sounds like a new concept, it is as old as cavemen. It is not the concept. It is the application of it that counts. In my experience, what you do not know can hurt you. But, usually, what you do not know is most things from your imagination that make you hesitate to do the most important part of the whole OODA loop process- Act! Admiral nelson said, "Time is everything- five minutes make the difference between victory and defeat" If you have time to think it out (First part of the OODA Loop), fine- you can consider it a luxury. But, decision and action are not negotiable- action is always the correct course and so the decision part is the easiest of all.

Obviously, this is president Trump´s advantage. He is a man of action. Politicians are people of flaccid indecision who are easily led by the nose. The ghosts of their imagination constantly haunt them.

A 17-year-old Texas girl was arrested last week after authorities say she planned for a friend to be robbed and then pretended to be a victim during his carjacking. Deputies were called around 11:30 p.m. Friday after 20-year-old Preston Barry reported that he and friend Susan Mize, 17, had been robbed at gunpoint in Montgomery County. Barry told deputies that Mize had told him he could make $150 by driving some of her friends to Houston. The two then drove to a park and picked up a 16-year-old boy. As they waited, a 15-year-old boy in a mask walked up

NAFTA is as precarious as a slow-spinning plate on a stick. Mexico and Canada are both taking half-hearted turns recharging the momentum – while simultaneously looking for trade options due to, well,.. the inevitable. The basic issue is a simple one; for the U.S. NAFTA has a fatal flaw. Canada and Mexico are used by China and Asian nations as a way to work-around direct trade with the U.S. and use NAFTA as a backdoor into the U.S. market. It works out great for Canada and Mexico, but terrible for the U.S. It’s a structural issue and no amount of negotiation

President Donald Trump criticized Oprah Winfrey after she hosted a panel of voters during a special on 60 Minutes. “Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes,” Trump wrote late Sunday night. “The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect.” Winfrey’s panel was put together by pollster Frank Luntz to discuss Donald Trump — a mixture of liberals and conservatives in Michigan who weighed in on Trump’s first year. Winfrey asked the panel about their response to the #MeToo movement, the president’s fitness for office, and the

Nancy Pelosi gave a marathon speech on illegal immigration the other day. But how would she know much about the realities of open borders, given her palatial retreat in Northern California and multi-millionaire lifestyle that allows wealthy progressives like herself to be exempt from the consequences of her own hectoring? In the end, the House minority leader was reduced to some adolescent racialist patter about her grandson wishing to look more like his Mexican-American friend. I was thinking of the San Francisco Democrat’s speech last week, during a brief drive into our local town, in a region that is ground zero

On Valentine’s Day, a 19-year-old former student of a Miami-area high school walked onto his former campus with an AR-15 style rifle and murdered 17 people, making it the third-largest school shooting in American history. Why did he do it? Well, it depends on whom you ask and exactly what they may stand to gain from exploiting the massacre. The day after the shooting, rumors briefly bubbled up online that the assailant, Nikolas de Jesus Cruz, was a member of Antifa. But this was quickly revealed to be a prank by a Twitter page calling itself Laguna Beach Antifa, a parody account

Now that the gun control advocates have had their fifteen minutes of fame, let’s start focusing on the real issues impacting the rise in school shootings since that infamous day in Columbine in 1999. Issue number one that no one in the mainstream media or government wants to acknowledge: fatherlessness. Specifically, the impact of fatherlessness on the boys who grew up to become school shooters. Dr. Warren Farrell, author of the new book The Boy Crisis, explains: Minimal or no father involvement, whether due to divorce, death, or imprisonment, is common to Adam Lanza, Elliott Rodgers, Dylan Roof and Stephen Paddock.
