The Body Trade: Made in America:

Portland, OR - On July 20, a Hong Kong-flagged cargo ship departed Charleston, South Carolina, carrying thousands of containers. One of them held a lucrative commodity: body parts from dozens of dead Americans. According to the manifest, the shipment bound for Europe included about 6,000 pounds of human remains valued at $67,204. To keep the merchandise from spoiling, the container’s temperature was set to 5 degrees Fahrenheit. The body parts came from a Portland business called MedCure Inc. A so-called body broker, MedCure profits by dissecting the bodies of altruistic donors and sending the parts to medical

Comments:
Am I the only one who thinks this is truly wrong. I wouldn´t donate my organs, if I knew other parts might be taken and shipped elsewhere. Isn´t there plenty of dying people on their side of the Ocean? However, originating on the extreme left coast, I can believe this affront to our dead. Planned Parenthood sell to them?

So much for donating one’s remains to science. They’ll have to get along without me while, perhaps, I fertilize a lovely rose bush in my kids’ garden.

There is no body parts black market. Livers, hearts, etc. are scrupulously matched on a myriad of levels. You just can’t go out an order gonads replacement. It doesn’t work that way. A myth.

That is very upsetting to read. Last summer a relative, who had faced many challenges, lost their spouse suddenly and was devastated. The organ donation people were relentless and asked for more and more parts when the relative was in shock. Parts they were paid for while the relative couldn´t even afford a funeral.

No way I am donating anything after what happened. This seals that deal.

Intelligence officials can selectively release classified information to trusted journalists while withholding the same information from other citizens who request it through open records laws, CIA lawyers argued Wednesday. In a motion filed in New York federal court, the CIA claimed that limited disclosures to reporters do not waive national security exemptions to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. Intelligence and law enforcement agencies frequently deny records requests on the basis of protecting sensitive national security information, one of nine exemptions written into the federal FOIA law.

A backlog in security clearances for sensitive White House jobs is not new. Just ask the Clinton administration. More than a year into Bill Clinton’s first term, of 1,044 White House personnel, nearly 100 had no security clearance at all, according to press reports in 1994. The scandal alarmed both Republicans and Democrats on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, who wrote to CIA Director James Woolsey on March 17, 1994.
