Struggling California city prepares to
experiment with ‘universal basic income’

BizPac Review, by Samantha Chang

Michael Tubbs, the 26-year-old mayor of Stockton, California, thinks handing out $6,000 a year to low-income residents (with no strings attached) is the way to lift people out of poverty. “Stockton is absolutely Ground Zero for a lot of the issues we’re facing as a nation,” Tubbs told CBS San Francisco (video below). “Ideally, I would like to serve 100 families for 18 months at $500 a month.” Stockton is experimenting with a welfare program called “universal basic income,” which gives low-income residents $500 a month, no questions asked. The money is coming from a private grant. The California city, which went

Comments:
Of course that idiot mayor was endorsed by the fool Obama. The insanity and appalling behavior from Democrats just never ends. Even worse the $1M is coming from a grant from a co-founder of Facebook. This just encourages more laziness. The Democrats like John Kennedy must be spinning in their graves because of the Socialistic behavior of the Democrats now. It really is extremely disturbing.

Have a look at poor Stockton’s mayor. Responsible for the mismanagement that got this city where it is, Tubbs now tries something else. Talk about miscast for a role. Affirmative Action is a very, very bad idea.

Typical socialist approach to governance: spend other peoples´ money, until you run out and are fiscally in extremis (e.g., Venezuela).

Will these "progressives" ever learn basic math??

I hope this succeeds so well that Stockton becomes the largest city in CA as all the lazy and the drug addicts, and the ´urban campers, etc... flock there.
As the population swells into the millions, all in cardboard and plywood boxes with mountains of trash and sewage blocking the streets America can have it´s first world class slum rivaling the ones in Haiti, Africa and Mexico.
This also could be a boon to the bum economy as places like SF and LA raise the amounts they pay their bums of face losing them to this competition. That could lead to a price war as cities battle to attract and keep these kinds of people.

Expect an influx of new residents. $6000 a year for doing nothing is a good deal. Why live nearby when you can pick up the extra $ by moving a few miles ? Anyone who needs a job can just relocate to Stockton and stop looking. Guaranteed if this goes through there will be no vacant apts in Stockton and there will be 10 people living in a one bedroom apt.
How does giving people $ live them out of poverty ? It reinforces poverty.

This is a major symptom of Basic Universal Stupidity. Didn’t you teach your children about money?
You never give them money. They work for it. Make your bed pick up your dirty clothes put away your toys mow the yard, help clean the kitchen, and all those household chores, and you earn an allowance. No work equals no pay. Then teach them to save some of it in a bank account. Then teach them to spend it wisely. Lastly teach them how to give it away. Put a dollar in the offering plate at church. Donate it to the Red Cross or any other favorite charity. Teach them to pay it forward.
Do this and they will never ask you for money when they are adults, unless they become alcoholics and drug addicted. Even then the answer is still NO.

OMG! This is so hilarious. You have got to get a copy of Kurt Schlichter´s book, "People´s Republic". Kurt describes a mission into the PR (which has an armed and very dangerous border with their sworn enemy, The Untied States of America) and the undercover team´s adventures through the independent nation of The People´s Republic of California. I almost keeled over from laughter over their experience at a P.R. truck stop cafe- they are handed a menu by a surly waitress, which lists all kinds of vegan and otherwise food items, but, the only meal they really have available is called "Responsible Soup". The exchange between the team member and the KBG-esque waitress alone is worth the purchase of the book.

This Stockton moron Mayor and his totally idiotic and unworkable communistic ideas would be a perfect fit as a character in the book.

Stockton is bankrupt, the final destination of all socialist endeavors. Cities have to pay their bills, balance their budgets, so where does Stockton intend to get the money. Nobody wants any Stockton bonds, even the left wing Sacramento is going to tire of bailing out Stockton. Good luck with it all.

#1, I was discussing some of the amazingly unworkable government policies and programs that leftists put in place with a young friend, who recently turned 21.
He got high grades in college physics and analytic geometry and advanced algebra. I was explaining that a lot of these people just cannot grasp the basic predictive powers of mathematics, so they will NEVER really understand that what they emotionally want to happen, is mathematically, economically unsustainable. I pointed out that it took me decades to really understand the reality of this sort of innate mental disability. The ´everyone is like me´ way of thinking blocked my understanding of their dysfunction.

He pointed out that it would be impossible for a "math literate" person to fully empathize with a truly "innumerate" person because those who understand mathematics cannot really imagine being unable to grasp these concepts. It is a good point.

We cannot really grasp how they think when they are fundamentally unable to grasp the math which makes their emotion-driven policies obviously completely unteneble. We say "That could never work!" but they just somehow think we are mean because we refuse to help people. Fundamental dysfunction.

Well, at least two parts of the economy are going to flourish in Stockton:

1) Drug dealers
2) Liquor stores

At least the liquor stores will collect a little tax revenue.

Since those two things are probably more responsible for increases in crime, logic and reason say that this is a VERY BAD IDEA!!! Of course, you can´t accuse any LIE-beral anywhere is applying logic, reason, or facts to anything. They have always acted solely on their feelings, and clearly that is not changing in Stockton, Cubafornia!!!

LIE-berals destroy everything they touch!!!

Socialism never works, as America´s early settlers learned the hard way. The mayor of Stockton would learn a lot by reading William Bradford´s Journal, especially the part about the colonists´ attempt at this sort of governance, which failed miserably and they all nearly starved to death. History proves it fails every time it is tried. ...Mayor Tubbs could learn much from history´s lessons ALREADY learned.

This will work just like an increase in the minimum wage. Those that don´t work for minimum wage, get nothing extra. The prices for everything will increase to absorb the new level of "free" money available, but everyone elses prices go up as well, basically lowering the wages of the majority.

The good news is that the sales tax revenue will increase and property taxes will go up, so the state will make more money. /sarc

The Bolshevik Revolution turned 100 last October. The specificity here is pretty damning. The FBI released a stunning admission today admitting they received prior a specific warning about Broward County Nikolas Cruz and his threats to carry out a school shooting. The FBI took no action. Federal deportation officers staged one of the biggest enforcement actions in years against businesses in Los Angeles this week, arresting 212 people and serving audit notices to 122 businesses who will have to prove they aren’t hiring illegal immigrants. Nearly all of those arrested were convicted criminals, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE said it targeted Los Angeles because it’s a sanctuary city, meaning it refuses to fully cooperate with federal authorities on deportations from within its jails. That means agents and officers have to go out into the community, said Thomas D. Homan, the agency’s deputy director.

Special counsel Robert Mueller is not yet done investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 election after indicting 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities for seeking to interfere in the 2016 election, according to a report Friday. The probe is also seeking to determine if Trump obstructed justice, the person said. Mueller has not publicly confirmed that his team has ever looked into possible efforts obstruct justice.

The criminal indictment of 13 Russians for allegedly trying to influence “U.S. political and electoral processes” provides no evidence of any collusion between these Russians – or any other Russian officials – and the Trump campaign in the 2016 presidential race. While the description of alleged Russian activities is very troubling, it is important to note that the indictment makes no mention of any hacking or other activity that changed ballots, vote counts, or actually interfered with the election.
