Trump officials want 2020
census to ask about citizenship

Washington Times, by James Varney

The U.S. census asks about age and ethnicity, but doesn’t currently ask residents whether they’re citizens — something the Trump administration wants to change in time for the 2020 count. Like much of the Trump agenda, it’s not happening without a fight. The Justice Department’s petition to add citizenship questions to the upcoming census has ignited a firestorm of criticism from immigrant-rights advocates who say immigrants will shun the process if they’re asked to reveal that particular piece of information. “Such a question would likely depress participation in the 2020 census from immigrants who fear the government could use the

What a huge change from the corrupt Obama regime where they moved the Census Bureau to the White House. Link below. The second link from Forbes that the purpose of that was to manipulate the numbers for Obamacare. It is a tinyURL because the URL was overlong.

Federal government money is doled out based on census data. As illegal immigrants, they should not be able to get Federal money. Anything that happens to decrease this misappropriation of funds is good news.

Federal courts ruled illegals must get federal, state & local money - Texas was forced in 1982 - Plyler vs Doe - to educate illegal alien students, and this unconstitutional expansion has also led to emergency rooms and all medical care....

Of Course. This is elementary. The purpose of the census is to determine the representation in Congress, and was never meant to count millions of people who were in the country illegally. They should not be counted the same as citizens, and thus give a state more Representatives in Congress than it is due... California, for example.

as ever, this is continuing damage from the unseemly bow to the black-robed nitwits in the Judiciary, to the great damage to the nation.
As post 3 noted, this is from a case before SCOTUS, one that was wrongly decided, and by a 5-4 vote at that. I was alive then. I was not asked. Were you? Were any of us? Of course not.
So FIVE unelected denizens of the fecal pit screwed the nation. Brennan, Marshall, Blackmun, Powell, and Stevens. I trust that they are, all of them, inhabiting a roasting pan in the same aisle as Pol Pot.

First, I agree that we should ask for citizenship status.
However, there is a major problem with the contention that non-citizens don´t count. It´s in Section 2 of the Fourteenth Amendment:
Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the executive and judicial officers of a State, or the members of the legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State.
The phrase "Indians not taxed" is a dead letter, since members of American tribes became citizens in 1924. So are the references to male citizens (19th Amendment) and the age of twenty-one (26th Amendment). But the Amendment states that representation is based on the number of persons, not citizens. That´s a tough nut to crack.

And, in case anyone thinks we can assume the 14th Amendment is understood to mean citizens, look at Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution:
Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three-fifths of all other persons.
Those "other persons" were slaves; they were not citizens, could not vote, and had no civil rights at all but each one counted toward the state´s representation in Congress as 3/5 of a citizen anyway.
