California´s bullet train (and biggest
boondoggle) is over budget by billions

Fox News, by Barnini Chakraborty

It’s billions of dollars over budget and seven years behind schedule, and appears to have no plausible way of living up to its goal of getting riders across the state in three hours or less. Welcome to what’s arguably the nation’s largest infrastructure project and California’s biggest boondoggle. The highly hyped bullet train has been a challenge from the start. No one thought it would be technically, financially and politically easy, but the way the project has been mishandled has some Californians fed up and demanding answers. Just this week, the California High-Speed Rail Authority, the organization charged with overseeing

A cluster**** and honey pot for the unions. You could buy everyone in the state airline tickets for years for what this thing is going to cost....maybe provide a chauffeured limo.

I never understood the need for this. Some countries that have them seem to work though I am suspicious about how much their government is subsidizing them.

Also, to be truly high speed, it would not have any stops. I suspect if this disaster ever gets built, every town in Cali will scream for train to stop in their city. There is also no way it could even come close to paying its way without Cali taxpayers put on the hook to keep it from going bankrupt.

High speed rail across the state is a lot of train crossings for accidents. Then speed is good for derailments, and passengers attract terrorists. What is the improvement over shuttle air service, which is flexible? Service can be ramped up or down, according to demand, and plane routes changed. Shuttle air service is privately funded. Bullet trains are publicly funded, and subsidized. The bullet train idea is a boondoggle, along with the surface rail, which improves nothing over shuttle buses.

It would be less expensive - - more efficient - - and far more comfortable - -

- - to give every Kalifornian who wanted to travel between LA-LA and SF a chauffeured, door-to-door limousine ride - - even in a battery-powered car - - if one could go that far.

Gee - - why didn´t Jerry and his socialist advisors think of that?

Leftists love trains.
Seeing thousands of people obediently lining up to get crammed into filthy cans, then lining up to leave like the livestock that the left views them as.
Herding their lesser around makes them feel powerful.
It also helps if they are trained for the inevitable time when the train goes to a different destination because their usefulness had expired.

The whole reason for Civil Engineers is so that the public will trust them. The bonds represent a multi-decade trade of future money for current pleasantness, if the trust is broken - as it is - then all future infrastructure is in danger.

You have to know when to walk away. Personally I think all transpo projects should be self-funded, as in profitable from rider funds.

Otherwise it is not yet a priority.

This is the stuff that will eventually sink the Democrats in California. Even many Democrats disagree with what has been going on...

What a surprise. I would have bet $1000 that they were going to do this.

California voters and California politicians are really world class idiots. I know that there are a lot of good folks in Cali, but the fruits and nuts have turned everything in to such a fiscal and civil rights disaster (free speech and gun rights largely cancelled, and more) that it is pretty sad to see.

Born in Cali, but left many decades ago. What a shame they are wasting the money that is needed to maintain and expand their existing road system on this stupid boondoggle. That much money put into new and improved highways would be able to move millions of more people AND cargo, instead of a few people and ZERO cargo on this stupid train- if it is ever built.

You know what? If they could have built something, it didn´t have to be a bullet train, just something, that went from the Central Valley to Silicon Valley, it would have made sense. But oh no. They had to have a super train that cost a fortune and went hundreds of miles an hour. Compare and contrast the absolute morass engulfing the bullet train to the keep on trucking southern border wall prototypes that are moving along, things are happening, it looks like they´ve picked a winner for the prototype for places where an actual wall will be built. That´s what we get (aka win)by electing a "can do" builder as president, as opposed to a "can´t do" Democrat politician.

So, if they maintain the same pace we are talking an estimated $4,250.00 per man, woman, and child in construction costs. Okay, maybe the 74% who voted for this felt they could live with it.
Here is the problem I see. Cost of a ticket is an important factor. According to Expedia it costs $80.00 to fly that route. CALI Bullet train tickets, as told by the State, would cost, using the most recent figure $86.00, with the State estimating a 22 cent per mile cost per passenger. France´s bullet costs 52 cents per mile and Germany´s cost is sightly higher. Amtrak´s Acela costs 50 cent per mile but it´s not a bullet train. so if you use the two bullet trains that are running and not subsidized the CALI train´s tickets would cost $215.00 not the $86.00 the state says it will. This baby is going to suck money for the next seven generations. My recommendation, it´s in a hole and they better stop digging. But what does Brown care, he won´t be around.

Just think, even at best a ticket is $100 then you gotta factor in the rental car and the wait time for the next train to get where ever. I can drive from La La to swampfrisco just as quick as the train and have my own transportation when I get there.

Sometimes states and their leaders get swept up into excessive optimism and then obligate taxpayers in a cause. We in Texas sadly remember the Supercollider Semiconductor. It was an attractive idea, seemed doable and affordable with big rewards. But, it expensively fizzled. Anyone who cares to read about it, here´s a link. Anyway, California, we´ve been there and are sympathetic.

After months of swaggering hesitation, President Trump finally announced the United States’ withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran, to which Britain, France, Russia, China, Germany and the European Union are also parties. This action tramples on European leaders, who urged Mr. Trump to exercise restraint in the interest of international security and multilateralism. Federica Mogherini, the European Union’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, reacted to Mr. Trump’s announcement with a sharp statement. The European Union and the rest of the international community, she said, would “preserve this nuclear deal.” The question is how. Notwithstanding an abundance of

We’re all educated by our peers and, over the years, a good portion of Donald Trump’s peers have been thugs. Building casinos in Atlantic City, N.J., brought Trump into similarly genteel circles. Trump’s hero was Roy Cohn, who unfortunately was born too late to serve the emperor Caligula. And yet, the economy is humming, hosts of regulations have been rolled back, the unemployment rate is down, job openings are soaring, taxes have been cut and black

Donald Trump is easily the most psychoanalyzed president of modern times. His decision-making style and behavior have been hotly debated by journalists, voters, politicians, world leaders and pundits who have bestowed upon him any number of fanciful, grave-sounding mental conditions, calling him, among other things, a narcissist, a sociopath, a psychopath and a paranoiac. Trump has said he distrusts mental health professionals, so we don’t have access to a formal assessment of his psychology. But colloquially speaking, perhaps the best explanation for the president’s behavior (snip) They are quick to respond to threats and to
