Microwaves are as damaging to
the environment as cars

Microwaves are as damaging to the environment as cars and users must be taught how to cook more efficiently, scientists say. The ovens are responsible for 7.7 million tons of the carbon dioxide pumped out from the EU each year — the equivalent of 6.8 million cars. Researchers say they are fueling global warming with consumers overcooking food to blame. Microwaves account for the largest percentage of sales of all types of oven in the EU, with numbers set to reach 135 million by 2020. But scientists at the University of Manchester — the first to assess the environmental impact

Comments:
Oh no. Just when I stopped barbecuing to save the earth, I´ll have to stop using my microwave.

I really can´t think of anything sarcastic to say about these Luddites anymore. It´s getting too serious.

Once upon a time these things were rightfully hailed as being far more efficient than a conventional oven. Now they are joining the list of things that are killing polar bears?

Sheesh, let´s just cut to the chase and all of us start eating nothing but raw grass, you know to "save the planet".

Like people don´t "overcook" food using other methods?

As to the amount of "damage", I do not believe it. If you want to tell me that microwaves use as much energy as cars in total, ok, maybe. But "overcooking" using as much energy as cars, baloney.

Microwaving, in general, is an efficient way to cook. For example, if I want a cup of tea, I put the exact amount of water I will drink into a cup and heat it exactly to the temperature I want it to steep at. The old way was to heat water in a kettle to boiling. Too much water and too hot. Plus we have to heat the metal kettle as well.

We are going to cook our food one way or another and equating the energy we use in doing so as "damage" is lunacy.

The article is mostly sensationalism with little content.

Insanity. First point - microwave ovens heat items far more efficiently, using far less electricity than conventional electric ovens.

Carbon dioxide is a beneficial gas, necessary for all green plants to live. CO2 is currently in very short supply in our atmosphere, restricting the ability of green plants to grow and reproduce. The plants are gasping for CO2.

Releasing more CO2 into the air is good, not bad, regardless of the insane, irrational MMGW loons who say otherwise with no basis in science, only faudulent work pretending to be science.

What started as a traffic stop quickly turned into a high-speed chase, back-to-back crashes and an arrest that happened thanks, in part, to the suspect’s pants falling down. Tobias Smith, 24, faces a long list of charges stemming from the chaotic chase and crashes. Daytona Beach police say they tried to pull Smith over Tuesday for trying to cut through a parking lot along West International Speedway Boulevard to avoid a traffic light. Documents say Smith took off on North Nova Road. Smith made a hard right from the center lane onto Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard, police say, and at

A police officer at a northern Illinois high school was hailed as a hero Wednesday for shooting and arresting a former student who fired on him in a hallway while staff and seniors were meeting for a graduation rehearsal. The 19-year-old former Dixon High School student suffered wounds that weren’t life-threatening, according to police, who didn’t release his name. The school resource officer, Mark Dallas, took the gunman into custody after shooting him. “He saved an enormous amount of lives,” Lee County Sheriff John Simonton said. The driver of a Tesla electric car had the vehicle’s semi-autonomous Autopilot mode engaged when she slammed into the back of a Utah fire truck over the weekend, in the latest crash involving a car with self-driving features. The 28-year-old driver of the car told police in suburban Salt Lake City that the system was switched on and that she had been looking at her phone before the Friday evening crash. Tesla’s Autopilot system uses radar, cameras with 360-degree visibility and sensors to detect nearby cars and objects. It’s built so cars can automatically change lanes, steer, park and brake to help avoid collisions.
