Sofia Vergara, Frozen Embryos
and Forced Procreation

Creators Syndicate, by Mona Charen

Original Article

Posted By:Tianne, 1/13/2018 9:40:51 PM

The Supreme Court of Colorado will soon rule on whether a person has a constitutional right to not procreate. The dispute is between Drake Rooks and his ex-wife, Mandy Rooks. The couple were married in 2002. They had three children using in vitro fertilization, but were left with six frozen embryos. In 2014, they divorced. Now they are embroiled in a legal battle over what should become of those "snow babies." Mandy, 40, who reportedly always dreamed of having a large family, would like to use some or all of them to have more children. Drake, 50, says absolutely not.

Comments:
As Mona Charen demonstrates, feats of technology, when not originally guided by moral rules and ethical standards, create dilemmas not easily addressed or solved.

That our courts are now in charge of deciding the fates of embryos residing in medical limbo, is an outcome that is both distressing and alarming.

there would be no problem for me in the first place. imho, i think vitro fertilization is wrong. i don´t think it´s just about babies but an opportunity for a couple, a doctor and in this case a judge, a small group of participants who want to play God. there are babies that need adopting.

I read last week where couples are adopting these "snow babies". The process of implantation, per the article, is easier and cheaper than IVF. The article featured a baby girl who was older than her mother based on conception date. It´s all so strange.

I believe IVF is immoral, yet I have a beautiful 7-year-old grandniece that is the joy of my nephew. I had hoped they would adopt. I shudder at the thought of her siblings, still frozen, with no plans by their parents to grow the family. This is the immorality; we are farming our progeny as a commodity. Life, and therefore the infusion of the soul, begins at conception. Every conceived life has the moral right to gestate in their mother’s womb, and experience life uninterrupted by a sojourn in ice.

The Catholic Church redefined their teaching on Limbo, perhaps they were wrong. It may not exist spiritually, but mankind has replicated here on earth.

"Forced procreation" is an incorrect term. When a woman decides to freeze an embryo (or several) she has already begun the process of procreation - there is nothing forced about it. It is only when she changes her mind, that unnatural complications arise.

No matter how long nor how hard they try, human beings will never be able to replicate the precise miracles of God - they should cease acting as though they already have.

If the Colorado Supreme Court grant the right to the mother to carry the Embryos to term is the father liable for child support?
Can a divorced man be held financially hostage forever after divorce?

That´s right, men are just drones to be used. Men have no rights in this Brave New World where women have the right to abort, give birth, and even rent out her uterus. It´s all "her body" after all.

We are a country striped of morality that makes Sodom and Gomorrah look innocent in comparison.

Men and women who decide to create these embryos should be financially responsible for them.
Nobody is holding anyone hostage. You agree to make ´em, you own the responsibility for them forever.
Why should anyone be free from the consequences of their own willful behavior? When you´re talking about human life, you don´t get to change your mind and whine and cry and melt like a snowflake. You shoulder your burden and you bear it.

Consider this: Non-intercourse reproductive technology is the main technical perversion which is now mainstreaming homosexual parenting.

It all fits. You have to look at the whole overarching project: the deconstruction of sex. That is, breaking apart of male and female, sex and gender, intercourse and fertility, structure and function, into fragmentary pieces, and then cobbling them together again into some different design as to ourselves seems most useful.

The artificial human reproduction technologies are morally flawed because they separate the act of marital lovemaking from the conception of the child. The underlying disability (if there is one) hasn´t been cured or healed, it hasn´t even been addressed.

My heart goes out to people who have medical fertility problems. I would urge them to seek true healing solutions which respect and restore the spousal one-flesh nature of human procreation. One place to start is Natural Procreative Technology: NaProTech

My son and his wife waited until her children by a previous marriage were grown, but then he developed prostate cancer and nearly died. Thanks to IVF, my son became a father for the first time at 50. His son is the joy of his life. I think there are some problems, and no, a 40 yo woman who wants to have a big family can find another man to father her extra children.

In the USSR, Communist Cuba and other Socialist dictatorships, reporters frequently crossed the line from journalism to advocacy and then to personal involvement. The KGB had its honey traps, but usually didn´t need them. The media was happy to push their narratives. Just as it´s happy to push Iranian, Qatari and Hamas narratives today. But Politico´s take on this story would be very different if a Republican journalist had been carrying on an affair with, say, Pinochet.
