Immigration and the Tragic Sense of Life
Taki’s Magazine, by Christopher DeGroot

Original Article

Like much of the world, El Salvador is an unhappy place. Poverty and gang violence abound. And Mother Nature can be cruel. The country was ravaged by a couple of earthquakes in 2001, for example, and in its generosity, the United States responded by granting Temporary Protection Status (TPS) to nearly 200,000 Salvadorans. It was extended several times during the past seventeen years, per the entreaties of both immigrant advocates and the El Salvadoran government, whose efforts to rebuild the nation relied on money sent by workers in the U.S. TPS is for countries affected by armed conflict, natural disaster,

Immigration is a misnomer. Yesterday a wise person said that calling the illegals “immigrants” is like calling someone who breaks into one’s home “a member of the family”.

DeGroot makes an excellent point. TPS was for exceptions. These unfortunate situations are part of human life, not exceptions. If we took everyone in, we’d become a depleted charity.

Yes, much of the world is miserable. This has always been the case, and will likely always remain the case.

Don´t bring it here.

Just that simple.

some holy aspirations are supposed to be mandated and some not You can advocate for celibacy for example without aiming to make it mandatory. Likewise for support to difficult situations of all kinds. We can say that a person is mandated by God to do something, without mandating what exactly. We can say you have a duty to the person who falls down in front of you but that your duty to people further away than that is up to your discretion and not always mandatory. that is how i see immigration. No doubt at all that hospitality is required generally speaking and that inviting the poor to take your own place at your table would be admirable, but you cannot call that compulsory for others because it is not.

Ben´s advice is applicable to people and nations.

Don´t bring the people into America.
Don´t do anything increase their suffering.
But don´t do anything to make them "comfortable in their poverty".

Illegal alien activists shielded from deportation by the President Obama-created Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and Democrats are blaming each other for unsuccessfully passing an amnesty. Last month, the open borders lobby, illegal alien activists, and Democrats failed to coalesce behind a number of amnesty plans for DACA illegal aliens that would have, at the same time, offset the amnesty with a reduction in legal immigration to benefit America’s working and middle class. Now, the two groups — the activists and Democrats — are blaming each other for the failed effort that is expected to result in DACA illegal aliens

Peter Navarro, director of the White House National Trade Council, defended President Donald Trump’s announcement of steel and aluminum tariffs on Thursday. “We can’t really have a country without a solid steel industry and without a solid aluminum industry, and right now, those industries are under siege,” Navarro said in an interview on Breitbart News Saturday with Washington Political Editor Matthew Boyle on SiriusXM Patriot 125. Navarro decried the “hair on fire” reaction from cable news and the press, calling it the “biggest bunch of horse-puckey that you can imagine.” He said that the ten percent tariff on aluminum would

While Democratic politicians insist on infringing on the rights of law-abiding Americans to prevent the next mass shooting, a report from earlier this week that received barely any attention shows that their efforts would not have stopped the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School gunman. House Democrats introduced an assault weapons ban bill this week that would also "prohibit the sale, transfer, production, and importation of semi-automatic rifles and pistols that have a magazine or can accept a magazine that can hold more than 10 bullets, and any ammunition-feeding device that can hold more than 10 bullets." Delta Airlines officials are reeling from public reaction to their virtue signalling when they ended discounts for National Rifle Association members. The airline decided to blame the NRA for a massacre in Florida. This publicity stunt backfired as not only did NRA members boycott the airline, but legislators in Georgia scotched a $50 million tax exemption for the airline. Delta tries to backpedal. Only problem is that airlines don’t have pedals https://t.co/ntczlOa068 — Dinesh D´Souza (@DineshDSouza) March 3, 2018 Delta officials told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that it sold only 13 tickets with the NRA discount. The great thing about nuclear weapons is that they work best when a politician talks about them, as opposed to actually using them. Case in point: Vladimir Putin today grabbed the world’s attention by touting new nuclear missiles that, he says, could defeat any missile defense system. "Efforts to contain Russia have failed, face it," he said during a state of the union speech. What Is He Talking About? From the description, Putin is most likely talking about the RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile. Its NATO codename name is SS-X-30 Satan 2. Like a typical nuclear missile, it launches into

Her films have tended towards message and “prestige” cinema. This is really the only thing that explains her ridiculous success at award ceremonies. She’s been primarily in Oscar-bait films, which lately means films that win an award then are remembered for having won an award. That is exactly how Streep will be remembered: as someone who won awards. Her performances won’t be watched and enjoyed by generations of cinephiles
