Former Pilot Flying J president´s pay doubled
to $26.9M during fraud scheme,

Knoxville News, by James Satterfield

Federal prosecutors have long insisted the goal of a fraud scheme at Pilot Flying J was to boost the truck stop giant’s profit and market share, and this week they served up numbers to try to prove it. Jurors in U.S. District Court in Chattanooga this week heard testimony and saw financial records showing that Pilot Flying J’s margin on diesel fuel sales, the number of truck stops it controlled and the amount of diesel fuel it sold all grew substantially during the time of the fraud at issue in the ongoing trial of the firm’s former president and three subordinates. The article spends most of its time talking about how the company bought more gas stations and sold a lot of diesel fuel as though that is evil. The base of the complaint seems to be that the company contracted with a number of trucking companies but then screwed them on price.

Romney rips Trump tariffs:
‘Trade wars are a tax on Americans’
The Hill, by Aris Foley    Original Article

Mitt Romney spoke out against "trade wars" on Friday after President Trump imposed tariffs on $34 billion of Chinese imports, prompting Beijing to respond with its own tariffs on U.S. goods. “Trade wars are a tax on Americans. They have severe consequences for many employers and inevitably cost Americans jobs,” the Utah GOP Senate hopeful said in a statement. Romney said trade wars are particularly punishing for agriculture, which is a sector in Utah the former GOP presidential contender said is “already under duress from wildfire, drought, and challenging public land policies.” “Our national objective should be to open new markets, negotiate free

For Kalena Bruce, a fifth-generation cattle farmer in Stockton, Missouri, finding affordable health coverage under Obamacare hasn’t been easy. She’s a young mom and business owner paying $700 a month in premiums alone, not to mention deductibles and copays. That’s why she’s become an advocate for allowing more small businesses like hers to bring down their health care costs by pooling together. It’s an idea that’s worked for Missouri businesses for more than 15 years and will now be available nationwide thanks to the Trump administration’s new rule expanding access to association health plans, or AHPs. Simply put, AHPs allow small businesses

At the heart of the effort to bring down President Trump were two affairs. Unlike the bizarre lies about Moscow hotel rooms and prostitutes in the Steele dossier that was used by the Clinton campaign and its allies to smear President Trump and generate an investigation against him, these affairs truly took place. And they didn’t just expose the malfeasance of four people, but of a corrupt political culture. The affairs between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page in the FBI, and between Senate Intelligence Committee security director James Wolfe and New York Times reporter Ali Watkins, did more than betray the spouses

Two former Ohio State University wrestlers are accusing Rep. Jim Jordan of ignoring sexual misconduct by a university physician more than two decades ago when he was an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State. There’s no claim that Jordan engaged in such misconduct, the claim is that he knew about, but failed to take action to stop, sexual harassment by a team doctor. Jordan denies knowing about the doctor’s misconduct. The question, then, isn’t what Jordan did; it’s what he knew. That’s usually a difficult kind of inquiry. In Jordan’s case, the two accusers are highly suspect. According to Chuck Ross at

On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress, composed of representatives from the 13 British colonies in America, declared unanimously and officially that these colonies “are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States … Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown.” One would suppose that virtually every citizen in the United States of America knows that piece of history. Too many have forgotten its meaning. The revisionist myths taught by leftists in control of our school system have diminished the great accomplishment of America’s founding generation. Every racial and sexual misfit and under-performer who was bullied in school—and possibly for reasons that had far more to do with their personality than their skin color or sexuality—is now given the whip hand and is more than willing to take out their pain on those they will never entirely forgive for mocking

In June 1978 Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn delivered the commencement address at Harvard titled “A World Split Apart.” It was a speech devoted to the emergence of “different worlds,” including our own Western society. On one side of the divide is a freedom diverted to unbridled passion with the accumulation of material riches to be valued above all else. Man is the center in this equation, as there isn’t any power above him, resulting in a moral poverty searching for meaning. In days after this speech, the Fourth Estate accused Solzhenitsyn of “losing his balance,” of representing a “mind split apart.” He thought

As the narrative goes, Democrats are motivated in 2018 because President Donald Trump has made America a less tolerant place where decorum is nonexistent and anger is palpable. So now the response is a liberal version of intolerance and indignation in spiffy made-for-Facebook videos? And Democrats wonder why they don’t win elections. The harassment of Attorney General Pam Bondi in a Tampa movie theater on Friday night was a sad example of today’s look-at-me moral outrage. Somehow, it seems befitting of our new era of reality-television politics. It’s not that Bondi deserves sympathy. She doesn’t. As the state’s leading law enforcement official, she repeatedly

June 2018 was an especially bad month for the status of Muslims in America. First, we learned that a new study showed that many Americans view Muslims in the United States as insufficiently “American,” and almost 20 percent would deny Muslim citizens the right to vote. Then, the Supreme Court upheld President Donald Trump’s decision to institute a ban on immigrants, refugees and visa holders from five majority-Muslim countries in a 5-4 decision. The synergy of these two pieces of information is critical because it reveals a common attitude that Muslims pose a threat to U.S. security whether they are

For the Trump White House, it’s been their stated position to gear our immigration policy to allowing more high-skilled workers into this country. As for the families of the low-skilled working immigration population in the country, 51 percent (76 percent counting immigrant-led households with children) are collecting some sort of check from our welfare services.
