Former Pilot Flying J president´s pay doubled

Federal prosecutors have long insisted the goal of a fraud scheme at Pilot Flying J was to boost the truck stop giant’s profit and market share, and this week they served up numbers to try to prove it. Jurors in U.S. District Court in Chattanooga this week heard testimony and saw financial records showing that Pilot Flying J’s margin on diesel fuel sales, the number of truck stops it controlled and the amount of diesel fuel it sold all grew substantially during the time of the fraud at issue in the ongoing trial of the firm’s former president and three subordinates. The article spends most of its time talking about how the company bought more gas stations and sold a lot of diesel fuel as though that is evil. The base of the complaint seems to be that the company contracted with a number of trucking companies but then screwed them on price.

Mitt Romney’s Mormon Mission

Mitt Romney is finally going to Washington. And Romney is going there on a mission: to bring “Utah’s values” to the nation’s capital, he explained in a video last Friday kicking off his campaign to replace the retiring Orrin Hatch in the U.S. Senate. A Senate campaign launched from Utah is neither the starting point, nor the D.C. destination that Romney had long envisioned. A decade ago, the former governor of Massachusetts had hoped to make a trek to the White House south from Boston, where he built his sizable fortune and national profile.

Mitt Romney kicked off his run to replace Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) Friday. As Romney makes his bid to become a new Never Trump pole in the U.S. Senate, here are some of his most notable forays into politics since losing to Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election. 1. Trump is “A Fraud, a Phony:” Romney’s most celebrated re-entry to the political seen came with his March 3, 2016 disavowal of then-candidate Donald Trump, who was surging on his way to succeed Romney as the Republican nominee. “Here’s what I know. He has no idea how to make a majority of voters choose him. Mitt’s back. The former governor of Massachusetts and occasional native son of Michigan has a new persona: Mr. Utah. He’s going to bring Utah conservatism to the whole Republican party and to the country at large. Wholesome, efficient, industrious, faithful. “Utah has a lot to teach the politicians in Washington,” he says in announcing his Senate campaign. Maybe. There’s always been something unstable about Mitt Romney’s political identity.

Mitt Romney said Friday that the nation must act swiftly to address the scourge of gun violence, stating that he was open to tougher measures like "enhanced background checks" if they would help keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. "What happened is unthinkable and unimaginable," he said after offering prayers for the victims of the Florida shooting. "We must take action to prevent tragedies like this from happening again." Speaking at a fundraising dinner held by Utah County Republicans in his first official appearance as a U.S. Senate candidate, Romney said he hoped to see the state generate

Mitt Romney´s extensive resume has many Republicans looking to him to take on a role in the Senate as a political and moral counterweight to a president many in the GOP see as divisive and undignified. First he has to get elected. The 2012 GOP nominee for president announced Friday he is running for the Utah Senate seat being vacated by GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch. Romney, 70, is among the best-known names in U.S. politics. He has been a successful businessman, governor of heavily Democratic Massachusetts, Olympics rescuer and, more recently, one of his party´s fiercest critics of President Donald Trump.

GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has devised an immigration debate this week which can help an alliance of Democrats and roughly 15 business-first Republican Senators push an amnesty through the Senate while blocking President Donald Trump’s pro-American reforms. “I think this is an effort that is set up to fail [Trump and] is not set up to help Americans,” said Rosemary Jenks, government relations director at NumbersUSA. Living proof from the age-old adage that “the devil makes use of idol hands” comes from the texts of foul-mouthed FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page when condemning pro-lifers for continuing to go out on the march. “F*cking marchers making traffic problems,” is how Strzok described Right to Life marchers in one of his texts to Page. “Page told Strzok that “I truly hate these people,” referring to pro-lifers attending the January 22, 2016, March for Life in the nation’s Capitol. A travesty occured in the chambers of Congress last night and early this morning. Republicans in Congress exposed themselves as hypocrites and frauds by passing an unconscionable two-year budget deal that will explode this year’s deficit and add $1.5 trillion to the debt. This is a level of spending that is three times larger than government spending in President Obama’s final year in office. A majority of Republicans in both chambers of Congress voted for the bill, and President Trump signed it Friday morning. Whatever pretense of fiscal conservatism the Republican Party once professed has vanished from all but a few

One day last March, Mitt Romney and Senator Orrin Hatch sat together in a hotel suite on the top floor of the JW Marriott hotel in downtown Washington, a few blocks from the White House. After eating lunch, Hatch revealed why he had called to meet with Romney, who happened to be in town to deliver a keynote address before an annual meeting of the American Apparel & Footwear Association. The seven-term Republican senator had been mulling retirement, and he had an idea: It was time for Romney’s political comeback.

A top U.S. Olympic Committee official said Sunday that he would re-evaluate the organization´s winter sports program after American athletes won just 23 medals in Pyeongchang, below the committee´s minimum expectations. That haul -- nine gold medals, eight silver medals and six bronze medals -- is the lowest since the U.S. won 13 medals at the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan. Sen. Kamala Harris is increasingly positioning herself for a what is expected to be a crowded Democratic primary for the White House in 2020. The former California attorney general, who is just at the beginning of her second year in the Senate, is taking positions that could endear herself with the Democratic base while allowing her to stand out from a group of Democrats who might seek the progressive mantle. Harris voted against a Senate immigration bill backed by centrists from both parties earlier this month, waiting until the last minute to break with other liberals such as Sens. Bernie

Matt Drudge of the eponymous Drudge Report is always right. Remember that. Drudge has been keeping a close eye on former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe, often linking to stories about the longtime Clinton crony´s aspirations for the White House.
