The Missing Democratic Agenda

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall in Elizabeth Warren´s house as people went crazy over the prospect of Oprah 2020. I can only imagine Warren´s reaction. Did she yell at the TV? Mutter under her breath? Immediately call her media consultant in panic? We know the slight got to her. By midweek she was making the rounds on cable. There she was, with Mark Warner of Virginia, reminding us of her existence, talking about God knows what, and smiling uncomfortably when asked, inevitably, what she thought of the Lady O. Watching Warren and Warner, I had a vision of

"that one begins to wonder whether they actually want to settle the issue"

Of course they don´t. ANY issue in front of the sycophant media right now is what the dems want. They have no traction on anything but are using the spaghetti thrown against the wall model to see what sticks.

Right now, all the dems have is theater. Trump´s successes on the economy, taxes, foreign actions/military, Conservative agenda items, and a lot of other things that DO matter to voters are drawing all the air out of the room.

Dems are recycling things that were tried and failed under BO. WHY would voters believe a dem party that locked us in economic stagnation after Trump turned things completely around in a year? ISIS bedeviled BO but a year after Trump started they have been almost exterminated.

The simple, clear, and true message is dems failed, Trump/Republicans succeed. That message is only likely to become stronger and more clear as the year unfolds.

Mick Mulvaney quietly changes the CFPB´s name
Washington Examiner [DC], by Joseph Lawler    Original Article

Mick Mulvaney is making sweeping changes to the consumer agency he temporarily leads, including its name. The symbolic tweak has been overlooked as Mulvaney has pursued numerous other, more concrete changes, such as delaying a major new federal regulation of payday lending. Yet, it’s an example of the Trump appointee’s talent for pleasing Republicans and ticking off liberals every chance he gets. From the time its doors opened in 2011, the agency was known as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Usually, people just called it “the CFPB.” Yet those terms, which adorn the agency’s headquarters, make up its website URL, and are used

Sen. Mike Lee has been fighting against the renomination of Chai Feldblum as EEOC Commissioner. Feldblum is the architect of President Obama’s radical LBGT agenda. She believes, among other things, that when religious liberty and sexual liberty conflict, sexual liberty should prevail in virtually all cases. The confirmation of Feldblum looked like a done deal in December. However, key social conservative groups sounded the alarm, and Sen. Lee placed a hold on Feldblum’s nomination. It is stalled. Now, however, I’m hearing (but haven’t been able to confirm) that a push is under way to steer Feldblum’s nomination through the Senate this week.

FBI eyed former NYPD chief’s mystery money

A man who was once the highest-ranking uniformed officer in the NYPD avoided charges in a corruption scandal that rocked the department — even though his bank records revealed some $300,000 in transactions that the FBI called the hallmarks of “money laundering,” The Post has learned. The feds’ investigation turned up surveillance photos that show former Chief of Department Philip Banks making some of the deposits, while other photos show “at least one other person, whom the FBI has not been able to identify, making deposits into these accounts,” according to a sworn affidavit filed in Manhattan federal court.

President Trump promised to reverse the Obama era’s progressive economic policies and free American capitalism to do what it does best: increase prosperity for all. And, sure enough, that’s exactly what happened. Buoyed with optimism as taxes were cut and anti-business regulations eliminated, businesses invested, GDP growth climbed to a 3.1 percent average for Trump’s first three full quarters in office and the unemployment rate declined to a low last seen during President Clinton’s final year in office. To avoid slipping back into the economic doldrums we experienced under President Obama –- which, incidentally, offer a look at the alternate reality we

Here’s an inconvenient truth about a self-described co-founder of Earth Day: he murdered and composted his girlfriend. Environmental activist and self-proclaimed Earth Day co-founder Ira Einhorn had a dark side. Einhorn was found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend and stuffing her “composted” body inside a trunk, NBC News reported in 2011. After five years of being together, Helen Maddux broke up with Einhorn. Enraged, he threatened to throw Maddux’s belongings onto the street if she didn’t come by to get them. She went to Einhorn’s apartment to retrieve them on Sept. 9, 1977, but was never seen again. Maddux went missing after going

Imagine, if you will, a cabal of government employees expecting one person to easily win the presidential election, and then the other candidate, the one they couldn’t fathom leading the country, actually wins. Now imagine those government employees aren’t slogging away in the mailrooms of various departments, but they are the upper-echelon of the nation’s intelligence agencies and they resolve to cripple the newly-elected president anyway they can. You don’t have to imagine it, it happened. And we appear to be living in the aftermath of that effort. This is all “fiction,” of course, because none of what follows can be

What on earth are the Democrats doing? President Trump has nominated CIA director Mike Pompeo, eminently qualified by any reasonable standard, to be America´s seventieth secretary of state. And yet the Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, have perverted the advice and consent clause of the Constitution into a license to obstruct this solid nominee for one of the most important cabinet offices. The Democratic rationales for opposition are neither consistent nor compelling. But the party is heedlessly and recklessly trying to capsize the nomination anyway, without giving second thought to the potential consequences of its actions. If this doesn´t

Whale oil provided the lighting to read the breakthrough novel of 1870, the story of Captain Nemo in 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. That was also the year of the foundation of Standard Oil. The result of that foundation is that we didn’t hunt the whales to extinction, but instead turned to kerosene to light the latter part of the 19th century, moving to electricity only in the 20th. It really isn’t hyperbole to insist that John D. Rockefeller saved the whales by his making mineral oil products so much cheaper than the cetacean-derived equivalent. And that’s really all you need

Whatever you´re doing right now you should stop it and go read Kevin Williamson´s long essay in the Wall Street Journal about what, exactly, happened to him at the Atlantic. It is fantastic and a perfect reminder of just what the Atlantic gave up when Jeffrey Goldberg capitulated to the Twitter mob. Some samples: In early March, I met up with Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of the Atlantic, at an event sponsored by the magazine at the South by Southwest conference in Austin. He had just hired me away from National Review, the venerable conservative magazine where I’d been

Jim Comey’s entire shtick now consists of violating the proprieties expected of a former FBI director. But even as he turns up on late-night gag shows to profit off betrayed confidences, he presents himself as the custodian of America’s “norms.” In between complaining about how his job “sucked” at times and how he felt “pissed” off, he likes to play the holier-than-thou scold. His constant invoking of “values” is an attempt to prettify his plunge into low politics and unprincipled profiteering. Much of his “moral” case against Trump turns not on Trump’s moral behavior or any supposed rejection of fundamental American

WASHINGTON — Federal civil rights prosecutors have recommended charges against a New York police officer in the 2014 death of Eric Garner, three current and former officials said, but top Justice Department officials have expressed strong reservations about whether to move forward with a case they say may not be winnable. Mr. Garner died on a Staten Island street after the police officer, Daniel Pantaleo, used a chokehold to subdue him. Officers had confronted Mr. Garner, who was unarmed, over accusations of selling untaxed cigarettes. His final gasps of “I can’t breathe,” captured on a cellphone video, became a rallying cry

A pro-Trump political action committee has filed a complaint with the FEC alleging the Hillary Clinton campaign laundered $84 million in contributions from big-name donors, such as Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, filmmaker Steven Spielberg, and designer Calvin Klein. The complaint outlines a money laundering scheme that violated multiple campaign finance laws, specifically laws related to limits on contributions by independent donors. As of this week, the complaint has escalated with a lawsuit urging the FEC to take action on the complaint which appears to have been largely ignored by the FEC since being filed in December of 2017. New York Times reporter Amy Chozick has a new book on Hillary Clinton and the 2016 election, and one anecdote in particular from it was getting attention on Friday. It's from election night, when Chozick writes in Chasing Hillary: Ten Years, Two Presidential Campaigns, and One Intact Glass Ceiling that it finally became clear somebody had to break the news to Clinton that she was going to lose to Donald Trump. The task fell to "Robby Mook, the drained and deflated campaign manager," per an excerpt in the Times. And when he finally did so, Clinton "didn't seem all that surprised," writes Chozick. Then the key Clinton quote: "'I knew it. I knew this would happen to me,' she said, now within

WASHINGTON — For once, President Donald Trump is opting to go smaller. The president who delights in bigness — of his buildings, his crowd sizes, his hands — is opting for a slimmed-down affair when he hosts French President Emmanuel Macron for his first state dinner on Tuesday. Gone are the President Barack Obama-era days of outside event-planning firms and tents set up on the South Lawn to accommodate guest lists of more than 350. Like President George W. Planned Parenthood is once again proving its hunger for powerful allies in government positions. GOP control of the Senate is narrow, and with the upcoming Senate races, the power balance could tip in favor of Democrat, pro-abortion advocates. Planned Parenthood knows this, of course, and will be pouring a reported $30 million into abortion advocacy through its political arm. This money will be spent on Senate and gubernatorial races in a number of states, including Arizona, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and will be used to fund TV and digital ads, direct-mail campaigns, and even advocacy in the public square.
