New Trump NLRB Delivers
on Employer Promises

Industry Week, by David Sparkman

Original Article

Posted By:nhchemist, 1/3/2018 11:55:40 AM

For most of the Obama era, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) pushed the legal envelope on every front in order to promote the interests of labor unions. Under President Trump, once the board finally attained a Republican majority—even if only for a few days—that battered envelope began to be repaired. It took until this fall for President Trump to finally nominate and obtain Senate confirmation of two new Republicans to the board, employer attorneys Marvin Kaplan and William Emanuel. Trump also finally nominated and got Peter B. Robb confirmed as the new NLRB General Counsel.

Joint employers and micro unions hardest hit.

LINCOLN – For bringing a lost logging railroad and its colorful owner back to life, a Lin-Wood Public School student has won a national mapping contest for middle schoolers. Andrew Wilson, 14, who will be a ninth grader this fall at the LPS, was chosen from 180 entries in the second annual Esri competition.(Snip) In the national round, Wilson came out on top, said Smith, because the judges were impressed by his outreach to local community members, among them historian and author Bill Gove; the number of sources cited; and the sheer volume of work.

There’s a move afoot for New Hampshire to aggressively respond to the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision that permits states to require retailers to collect the sales tax on online buying even when the purchase comes from a state that doesn’t impose the levy. (Snip) The proposed law would be reciprocal in nature, meaning it would let retailers collect and remit sales taxes but only as long as the home state honors all of New Hampshire laws for its citizens.

President Donald Trump canceled a planned Super Bowl reception for the Philadelphia Eagles Monday after many players would not attend due to his position that all players must stand for the national anthem. “The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow. They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country,” Trump said in a Monday evening statement.

Out-of-state drivers traveling along the Massachusetts Turnpike without E-ZPass transponders owe the state more than $15 million in uncollected tolls and fees -- payments the Massachusetts Department of Transportation is largely unable to collect. As of this month, MassDOT reported that more than 2 million out-of-state drivers had traveled on Interstate 90 without transponders under the new system, which replaced toll plazas with scanners mounted atop gantries. However even on working trips dignitaries expect to see more members of the royal family than only the Queen. Watching FBI agent Peter Strzok battle with Congress, my initial reaction was pure anger. His repeated, arrogant insistence that he had done nothing wrong despite tons of evidence to the contrary convinced me he deserved immediate firing — if not the firing squad. Gradually, though, anger gave way to amazement as Strzok grew increasingly combative and condescending. Given his predicament, the sneering and smirking were stupid, and yet he persisted.
