New Trump NLRB Delivers
on Employer Promises

Industry Week, by David Sparkman

Original Article

Posted By:nhchemist, 1/3/2018 11:55:40 AM

For most of the Obama era, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) pushed the legal envelope on every front in order to promote the interests of labor unions. Under President Trump, once the board finally attained a Republican majority—even if only for a few days—that battered envelope began to be repaired. It took until this fall for President Trump to finally nominate and obtain Senate confirmation of two new Republicans to the board, employer attorneys Marvin Kaplan and William Emanuel. Trump also finally nominated and got Peter B. Robb confirmed as the new NLRB General Counsel.

Comments:
Joint employers and micro unions hardest hit.

Out-of-state drivers traveling along the Massachusetts Turnpike without E-ZPass transponders owe the state more than $15 million in uncollected tolls and fees -- payments the Massachusetts Department of Transportation is largely unable to collect. As of this month, MassDOT reported that more than 2 million out-of-state drivers had traveled on Interstate 90 without transponders under the new system, which replaced toll plazas with scanners mounted atop gantries. (Snip)About $15 million in tolls and fees, however, remained outstanding from more than 456,800 out-of-state, pay-by-plate accounts -- only $2.8 million of which MassDOT can essentially force payment on due to reciprocity agreements

Andrew McCabe earned Trump tweet

Despite what some grammar purists say, sometimes it is appropriate to use all capital letters to deliver a message. Consider Friday afternoon, when President Trump tweeted out his take on the official Department of Justice reports on the gross misconduct of crooked FBI agent Andrew McCabe: “He LIED! LIED! LIED!” (Snip) He was a modern bumkissing FBI bureaucrat — metrosexual pajama boy, skilled in sharpening pencils and shuffling papers, petrified by his own service weapon, which was most likely a .22.

A Marjory Stoneman Douglas teacher says a threat assessment was performed at the high school just a few months before the deadly massacre, but school officials failed to heed the recommendations that followed. “There is blood on many people’s hands through this whole thing–definitely on the principal’s hand, (Snip) “The number one thing he said is we needed to reinforce the various entrances to the school. Make sure the gates are locked at all times and that anyone trying to get onto campus should be checked in by someone. Don’t just leave open gates,” the faculty member said.

Satirical Maine News Site a Hit

A satirical news website has become wildly popular in Maine, but not everyone is in on the joke. New Maine News has duped journalists and even gotten one teen in trouble with the law. "I’m not out to trick anybody, just out to make people laugh," said its founder, and sole author, Seth Macy. (Snip) Macy´s posts are so spot on that they have even tricked real journalists. A few months ago, two ESPN radio hosts cited his story about a basketball game called off after the ball got stuck in a wood stove.

Book reviews aren’t nearly as important as they used to be in the publishing industry for moving product, with one exception. A plug by the president of the United States. (Snip) When I went to bed late Sunday night, “What Really Happened” was hovering around No. 17,000 in Amazon sales — not terrible but not that great either. The book had 25 reviews, with an average of 4.5 stars. Seven hours later, when I woke up, I checked the book’s Amazon rank again. “WRH” was now at No. 2,904 in sales — a big spike, in other words.

So Barack Obama is in talks with Netflix, The New York Times reports, “to produce a series of high-profile shows that will provide him a global platform after his departure” from relevance last year. High profile? Global platform? Uh, won’t the ratings determine whether this is really high-profile TV, or just another big payday Obama didn’t come near earning on his own merits, like every other damn thing that’s been handed to him throughout his pampered, indolent life? (Snip) What can I say except to paraphrase one of Dear Leader’s most memorable statements: “If you like your Netflix, you can

What does this even have to do with academics? Nothing. Serious study is being replaced with social justice activism. The complaint, filed in federal district court in Manhattan, alleges that top Trump campaign officials conspired with the Russian government and its military spy agency to hurt Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and help Trump by hacking the computer networks of the Democratic Party and disseminating stolen material found there. “During the 2016 presidential campaign, Russia launched an all-out assault on our democracy, and it found

“If the Trumps were Democrats,” conservative actor James Woods tweeted earlier this month, “Melania would be on every cover of every chic women’s magazine in the world every month.” Woods may be exaggerating a little bit — only Oprah can put herself on the cover of a magazine every month, and it’s her own magazine — but he does make an interesting point. First Lady Melania Trump has not graced the cover of a single magazine in the United States since her husband took office over a year ago. University of Michigan Professor Sarah Ensor published an academic journal article this month that argues that humans should establish erotic relationships with plants. Originally highlighted by the Twitter account New Real Peer Review, Ensor’s journal article explores the field of “ecosexuality,” a term which means the sexual relationship between humans and plants. Advocates in the field argue that the Earth needs to be treated with love. In addition to reducing harmful environmental practices, ecosexuals believe that humans should physically make love to the Earth. Ensor, an English professor at the University of Michigan, begins by citing the “Ecosex Manifesto,” which

The past 12 hours brought two very big revelations involving former FBI director James B. Comey, President Trump and the Russia investigation, and they must be looked at side by side to fully grasp their collective importance. Comey’s memos of his conversations with Trump have leaked in full. This came after Republicans threatened to subpoena them from Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, leading him to release them to Congress. Comey confirmed to Rachel Maddow that before getting fired, he ordered an internal investigation into whether Trump surrogate Rudy Giuliani had been privately tipped off by people in the FBI two weeks
