1. MOM ARRESTED FOR TRYING TO GET HER BABY OUT OF THE CAR An Omaha woman taking her niece out of an SUV when the wind blew the door shut and the car locked with her keys and the child inside. The mom, the aunt and two other relatives tried frantically to open the door using a hanger and screwdriver, and when they couldn´t, they called 911. I guess it´s safer (not morally correct) to let a lost or injured child alone and adhere to the principle of "No Duty" to assist.

I´d rather be thought of as "uncaring" than a pedophile.

Sorry God, I can´t help the children any longer.

Interesting - a filler piece that in it´s first paragraph epitomizes the Fake News aspect of Reason Magazine.

The first (posted) paragraph starts out with a headline: Mom Arrested - then finishes with: Then ticketed...

Lenore is either uneducated or a liar - both reasons Not to read the article or Reason magazine.

Too bad incident #6 didn´t happen in Vancouver, where (as incident #2 implies) the fist-flying dad would have been cited for letting his tot out of his presence for even a moment.

Reply #3 here seems like a valid point, though.

#3 possibly, but none compare to the year of hell a divorced friend went through when a 1 time substitute teacher saw him pick up his young daughter after school.
The child protective people don´t let go even when shown proof.

There should be an 11th story added to this.
On Dec. 30, 2017 two cable installers rescued a 2-year old from sure tragedy when they found her wandering into traffic on a busy Main Street in Monson, Mass. Temperature at the time was approximately 2 degrees (F), and the toddler was wearing nothing more than a diaper. Police eventually were able to identify the girl, and when they questioned her father (sic) he said he had "no idea" that she had wandered off, and wasn´t even aware of the fact that she was missing until police told him.

Lenore Skenazy is a gem (aka known as "America´s Worst Mom") and the original "Free Range" mom. Not a Conservative as far as I know (probably more libertarian) but she advocates for children and parents in a great way. She is also seriously funny. Here is her presentation, with Jonathan Haidt, on "Are Your Kids Too Fragile? How to Make the Next Generation More Resilient." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-SrsJiq0AE

Catholics warn of church schism if
Vatican makes a deal with China

Beijing — A group of influential Catholics published an open letter Monday to express their shock and disappointment about a report that the Vatican could soon reach a deal with the Chinese government, warning that it could create a schism in the church in China. (snip) The Communist Party in China, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, has repeatedly destroyed crosses and churches, while the state-backed China Patriotic Catholic Association maintains its heavy-handed control over the church, they said. In his keynote speech to a major Communist Party Congress in October, Xi underlined that the religion in China must also

Sen. Rand Paul speaks about the spirit of why he is holding up the passage of the budget deal through the Senate: SEN. RAND PAUL: When the Democrats are in power, Republicans appear to be the conservative party. But when Republicans are in power, it seems there is no conservative party. You see, opposition seems to bring people together, and they know what they´re not for. But then they get in power and they decide, we´re just going to spend that money too. We´re going to send that money to our friends this time. The hypocrisy hangs in the air and chokes anyone

President Trump has spoken of his desire for a grand military parade since the early days of his presidency. During a January 18 meeting, he directed top generals to organize such a parade on the scale of France’s Bastille Day celebrations, reports Greg Jaffe and Philip Rucker for The Washington Post. This Tuesday, Pentagon spokesman Charlie Summers confirmed the U.S. Department of Defense is in the process of reviewing potential dates for a parade. What would such a display look like? Military parades outside of holidays such as Veterans Day, the Fourth of July or Memorial Day aren’t typical in

Emotional Support Peacock Barred

Over the weekend, a United Airlines passenger named Dexter was getting ready to board a flight from Newark to Los Angeles. He had his ticket ready. He was, incidentally, looking pretty great. But Dexter was not allowed to board the plane. Dexter, you see, is a peacock. According to Daniella Silva of NBC News, the peacock, which is reportedly an emotional support animal, and his human were turned away from their flight at the Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday. United Airlines told Silva in a statement that the bird “did not meet guidelines for a number of reasons, including its weight and size.”

Have you ever looked at how people dress and wondered how they afford it? Maybe they borrow them from wealthier friends, or know how to score on eBay. Or maybe they are criminals. Authorities in Rotterdam, Holland, are now going to always go with "criminals" -- and may seize your outfit right there in the street. Yes, seriously. Vatican ‘asks underground

The Holy See has reportedly asked two Chinese bishops to stand aside to make way for illicitly ordained, Chinese government-backed counterparts. A Vatican delegation asked Bishop Peter Zhuang of Shantou and Bishop Jospeh Guo Xijin of Mindong to retire or accept demotion in order to smooth relations with the Chinese government. (Snip) An underground priest in Mindong said Catholics would feel conflicted over the move. “We of course feel hard to accept but do we have the right to oppose the Vatican?” He said that he may leave the priesthood over the Vatican’s decision.

It´s not the prices at a shoe shop in Ramallah that will keep tourists out — it´s the demand for an official apology before entering. Pyeongchang - The moment, when it happened, felt routine to American slopestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, who along with figure skater Adam Rippon is the only openly gay male Winter Olympian to ever compete for the United States. Matthew Wilkas, Kenworthy’s boyfriend, gave Kenworthy a good-luck kiss before a qualifying run on Sunday in South Korea. “That was like a peck,” Wilkas, who wore a “USGay” t-shirt to the event, tells TIME afterwards from the bottom of the slopestyle course at the Phoenix Snow Park. “We should have made out in front of people.” Kenworthy didn’t know the TV cameras caught

Mitt Romney said Friday that the nation must act swiftly to address the scourge of gun violence, stating that he was open to tougher measures like "enhanced background checks" if they would help keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. Now that the gun control advocates have had their fifteen minutes of fame, let’s start focusing on the real issues impacting the rise in school shootings since that infamous day in Columbine in 1999. Issue number one that no one in the mainstream media or government wants to acknowledge: fatherlessness. Specifically, the impact of fatherlessness on the boys who grew up to become school shooters. Dr. Warren Farrell, author of the new book The Boy Crisis, explains: Minimal or no father involvement, whether due to divorce, death, or imprisonment, is common to Adam Lanza, Elliott Rodgers, Dylan Roof and Stephen Paddock. San Salvador - Last week, President Trump torpedoed an immigration deal put forward by a bipartisan group of senators. The Senate responded by rejecting his own, harsher plan. By the end of the week, the immigration debate seemed deadlocked between the fate of the Dreamers and the fate of the wall. But one thing is clear: Any plan that purports to make America safer by making it harder for immigrants to obtain legal status and increasing deportations will actually do the opposite. These proposals, embraced by Mr. Trump, are the same decades-old policies that helped transform Mr. Trump’s archenemy, Mara Salvatrucha

Why did she do it? Elizabeth Warren still hasn’t answered that question, and unless she does, she won’t shake off the doubts and questions surrounding her claims to American Indian ancestry. The Massachusetts senator called herself a minority for nearly 10 years. She reported that claim on a legal directory and two law schools reported her as a minority on federal forms. Yet Warren is clearly not a minority. She’s white. Her family doesn’t appear on any Cherokee rolls. Even if she does have Cherokee ancestry from her mother’s family, it would make her a fraction Native American at most. A Native American
