We already know Steve Bannon believes that politics is war. But during the course of his speech at an Alabama rally for Roy Moore this week, he gave the country an ugly lesson in what scorched-earth political warfare really entails. (Snip)Still, despite all the fun he’s having attacking his favorite targets and boosting Moore, Bannon has to be aware that he isn’t winning his war on McConnell. Try as he might to deny it, he knows McConnell is now more important to Trump than the Breitbart attack machine is. It was McConnell’s successful maneuvering and negotiating that gave Trump his
I don´t know. He helped get Trump elected against all odds.
The war that was most "ill-conceived", IMO, was the war NRO declared on Trump. When they put out that ridiculous Never Trump issue, I was still very much against him. Even then I said it was moronic to do that, and I´ve been proven correct.
Since then, Trump has proven to be our most conservative-in-action president in decades. And a lot of that is with support from Bannon. NRO still has not accepted Trump and they still lob journalistic grenades at Bannon. They´ve missed the point entirely.
I ams so happy Boehner & McConnell fought Obama´s spending plans ´tooth & nail´. That DOUBLED our national debt in 7 years - added $10 TRILLION in unpaid spending - those Establishment guys are our savior!! Think of how bad things w/b without their courageous efforts.... I was so inspirational - it reminded me of when 43 was elected and Mehlman was the RNC leader - sending me request for contributions, when 43 was approving spending going through the roof....made me so proud back then....
Can´t wait till Trump pivots and starts the fight to rein-in the Swamp´s spending of our children´s future - today.....
With Bannon it´s all about Bannon. Bannon foisting a pedophile on the GOP is going to hurt DT´s agenda. DEMs will wrap the pedophile around the GOPs neck, the way the GOP wrapped Clinton around the DEMs neck for years. Whether Moore wins or loses the GOP loses. Lastly, Moore will be the loneliest Pol in DC... no one will want to be pictured with him... I can see it now people sprinting away from the picture frame if his picture is being taken.... a Moore-induced sprint.
Those who liked the witch from Delaware, who gave a sure-thing R seat to the Ds, and Sharron Angle, who likewise kept an R from unseating Harry Reid in Nevada, will surely like the stable that Bannon conjures up to help give the House back to the Democrats.
I completely disagree; Bannon is a conscience buster. He is a force that is impossible to ignore and we have needed such a force for a long, long time. Tobin says "McConnell´s hard work" is what pushed through the Senate tax reform "win". Well, it is not won yet and we have to ask, would "Mr. Turtle" have done that effort if it had not been for Bannon´s constant badgering and accusations of many in the GOPe end of the pool? Motivation is a very needed element in getting things down and as far as I can tell, such as in the effort to repeal Obamacare, Mr. turtle was about as unmotivated a leader as I have ever seen! Can we explain McConnell´s vicious attacks on Roy Moore or his un-explainable forced stupidity in all but tossing that election to the GD Democrat? To say McConnell all on his own suddenly has become a Trump Champion is to exceed the limits of believably. McConnell did what he did because of the public awareness about his utter duplicity and I think Bannon has a lot to do with that.
I like the Honey Badger... and I´ve been pleasantly surprised by the Commander-in-Chief. (I voted for him, although in honesty it was mostly a vote against the PIAPS.)
That said... I think both Bannon and Trump sometimes "shoot from the hip" - with a scatter-gun - and incur collateral damage.
I´m a "devout" Mormon. Perhaps not as devout as Romney... but a believer and practitioner. I served a 2-year full-time mission, and NOT to avoid the draft (my lottery # was 320). I wasn´t offended by Bannon´s Mormon remarks... but I´m not easily offended. And I can certainly understand how fellow Mormons could take umbrage. And Mormons are a consistently-conservative voting bloc, as a rule.
I´m with Bannon 100% and this article is pure BS. You better believe it is a war. If Hillary was elected the borders would be wide open in the quest for more democrat votes and the end of this nation would follow.
Tobin appears to be in denial. This is "war", and there will be no quarter given to the progressive/socialist not the GOPe. Even IF the "establishment is able to take down Trump and Bannon, someone else will simply fill the void and the "war" will continue to its ultimate conclusion. Come on Tobin, in case you haven´t noticed, everything you thought you knew changed dramatically with last November´s election. Get over it or get the heck out of the way. No fence riding this time, you are either with us or against us. You make the choice.
#13 - a "sure thing" Republican senator from Delaware would have been another Susan Collins. That would have gotten us exactly nowhere. Frankly, I´d rather have a democrat than yet another RINO that could hold everything hostage.
There´s a lot I don´t know but I do know that the GOP establishment has been quietly at war with me nibbling away at my flanks while I have been repelling the frontal assaults the of the democrat party.
Bannon is part of how I came to see that my flanks were being rolled up. Its hard to see that as ill-conceived.
Would McConnell have been as successful or successful at all if it weren´t for a bit of an attitude adjustment by we the people in part delivered by Bannon?
The Moore campaign has debunked all of the false claims of sex attacks against young girls, as well as the claim by the former cop that the police were tasked with following Moore around, as well as the claim that he´d been banned from a shopping mall. You´d think a reputable publication such as NRO would have the resources to know these things, yet NRO had proudly shed any semblance of integrity.
Lies from the article re: Judge Moore. Would the Democrats have written anything differently? "the former judge who stands credibly accused of preying on multiple young girls ... an accused sexual predator like Moore ... an embrace of someone widely viewed by most Americans as a scoundrel ... despite his unsavory past and extremist views..."
I would like to see Moore file libel suits against any and all, after his win.
This is cute too; FTA: "It’s also true that, with the retirements of Jeff Flake and Bob Corker, Bannon will probably fail to make good on his promise to use primary challenges to purge the House and Senate of everyone on his enemies list."
The Flake and Corker Democrat trash walked themselves to the curb because they would not survive the primaries. Snakes like these know how to preserve their earning potential, if nothing else, yet Tobin counts their removal from office as a failure by Bannon? Funnier still, NRO expects people to pay for such weak punditry?
They sure are protesting at Bannon a lot. Why? Because he´s effective and right. The Romneybots are all out agreeing once again with NRO pantywaists. Those poor snowflakes who are upset the people might have a say in what happens to this country again. I say... Go Bannon!
If the Never Trumpers were Trumpers, there would be no war on the establishment, no Mueller investigation, Obamacare would be repealed, a better tax plan, budget cuts and a blowout in 2018 election. But the establishment just didn´t like Mr. Trump and sacrificed their voters and American citizens for what, I just don´t know. What idiots! Go Bannon Go. They gave Trumpers no choice.
I do not see anything ill conceived about the war on the GOPe, who have accomplished exactly nothing since the 1990´s. And everything accomplished today is due to Trump, as the GOPe would have continued to do nothing.
I’m with him on declaring war on the Repstsblishment. Look what we have as a result of their anti Conservative Progressive agenda and the current failure across the board to provide real leadership. How much worse will it have to get before enough is enough. I’m sure McConnell and Ryan would support Trumps impeachment if the Democrats ever got the opportunity to do it, just to prove they can govern in a bipartisan manner. The days of a balanced budget are gone for good and they will make sure they spend this country into financial oblivion. Until then go ahead and bash Bannon if it makes you feel any better.
Bannon is effective in ways we will never know. He has got the gift of prescience and the means of implementing his vision. Breitbart needs to back up to no other site when it comes to influence. Keep shining that bright light in all the corners.
Bannon is a hero and attacking the Establishment is exactly the right thing to do.
All the RINO horrorshows that we have had for the last couple of decades are because the Uniparty doesn´t care what the voters want, they want to seesaw back and forth with no real changes as we march steadily to an irreversible globalist power structure with the USA crippled.
Donald Trump’s relationship with John Kelly, his chief of staff, fraught from the beginning, may finally have gone past the point of no return. Two prominent Republicans in frequent contact with the White House told me that Trump has discussed choosing Kelly’s successor in recent days, asking a close friend what he thought about David Urban, a veteran Washington lobbyist and political operative who helped engineer Trump’s victory in Pennsylvania. Ivanka is also playing a central role in the search, quietly field-testing ideas with people. “Ivanka is the most worried about it. She’s trying to figure who replaces Kelly,”
Virtually all of the credibility of the so-called Steele dossier — and the Trump-Russia collusion narrative and investigations it spawned — hinges on Christopher Steele’s vaunted reputation as a former British intelligence agent who spied on Moscow and still maintains a network of sources inside the Kremlin. But now we are finding out from newly released transcripts that he never even set foot inside Russia to compile his dossier, and that he relied instead on an ex-journalist-turned-p.r. consultant to do much of his investigating there. In fact, this non-intelligence figure may be his main “Russian source” of information.
Some of you misguided young women (the non-misguided ones can ignore me) will resist the obvious fact that you need the romantic advice of a married, 53-year old retired Army officer who identifies as male. Well, judging from that Aziz Ansari story in babe.net, many of you sure need some guidance from someone. And since your fathers apparently went AWOL – or maybe you just didn’t listen – I’ll step in to help. Because I’m a helper. And because since so many of you are so utterly ill-equipped to interact with men, maybe you need a man to mansplain things
Donald Trump was inaugurated one year ago after promising to make America great again. Throughout the campaign everyone knew what he believed, though it was not clear what his opponents stood for. The Schumer shutdown has revealed the totality of the Democrats’ agenda: animosity and amnesty. When President Trump set out to deliver historic tax cuts for the American people, Democrats sat on their hands, rather than participating in the legislative process. Now they’ve come off the sidelines to actively sabotage the government established to serve the American people. Their stated reason for doing so is even more astounding than the act itself. Never before
Choose any measurement, and the result is the same: Democrats are headed for a major victory in the November midterms. The generic ballot tells us voters prefer Democrats to Republicans by a 10-point average. The president’s approval ratings, a historically useful guide to his party’s midterm hopes? The lowest at this point of any in recorded history. Recent special elections? Democrats took a U.S. Senate seat in Alabama for the first time in 30 years and a Wisconsin state Senate seat that had stayed Republican for 17 years. The average swing to Democrats in the four special elections so far:
Say, whatever happened to that guy who got stuck with the job of being DNC Chairman last year? You remember him, right… Tom Perez? He’s sort of dropped off the media radar lately. Maybe he’s just busy raising money and gearing up for the midterms. That would make sense, but things aren’t always that simple in the real world. I noticed a press release from the RNC this week which claims that Perez has been holed up in his office quite a bit and DNC insiders are saying that although he campaigned for the position with great gusto, Perez actually
The doors to the Statue of Liberty will reopen Monday — despite the fed shutdown of all non-essential government services. Gov. Cuomo announced Sunday the beacon-handed beauty, who stands on US Park land, would continue to let visitors in through $65,000 a day in state funding. “She’s resting, she deserves it,” Cuomo said at a Sunday press conference before the shuttered landmark. “She’s had a stressful few weeks but she’s gonna go back to work tomorrow, and that’s what were here to announce.” To keep Liberty Island open for business, the state arranged with the US Department of Interior to temporarily pay federal
The Justice Department has given various congressional committees nearly 400 pages of additional text messages between two FBI officials who were removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller´s investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. One of the newly discovered messages, lawmakers said, appeared to indicate that Peter Strzok and Lisa Page knew that charges would not be filed against Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as a result of the investigation into her email server -- before Clinton was interviewed by the bureau. Strzok and Page were pulled off the probe last summer after it emerged that
The Supreme Court agreed yesterday to hear a challenge to the third iteration of the Trump administration’s travel ban. It had been struck down by lower courts—a Hawaii district court and affirming Ninth Circuit—that seemed to place their hostility to the president above the law, which grants the chief executive clear discretion on such matters relating to immigration and national security. Back in February 2017, after the Ninth Circuit struck down the first version of the travel ban, Eric Posner, a liberal critic of both President Trump and his policy, recognized that the courts may be creating a “‘Trump exception’
As president, Barack Obama repeatedly mocked Donald Trump’s political ambitions, laughing at the idea of Trump ever winning the presidency. Obama mocked Trump in 2011 for calling into question whether he was born in America. The state of Hawaii later released Obama’s longform birth certificate to put the matter to rest. Obama viciously mocked Trump for the controversy, before mocking the idea of Trump ever serving in the White House.(Snip)A month before the 2016 election, Obama mocked Trump’s campaign on “Jimmy Kimmel.” Obama read a tweet from Trump saying that Obama “will go down as perhaps the worst president in the
Day One of a government shutdown, filled with increasingly angry finger pointing from both Democrats and Republicans, appeared to produce little Saturday in terms of a potential solution for the impasse on how to fund the government. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell insisted that a vote to break a Democratic filibuster on a short-term spending bill to reopen the government would happen by 1 a.m. Monday. "I asked for consent to move up a vote on this bipartisan solution and end this craziness. The Democrats objected," McConnell said late Saturday, Roll Call reported. "That won´t work forever. If they continue to
Senate Democrats have blocked a bill to keep the federal government running and fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program for the next six years. They have, that is, partially shut the government down. They have taken this step not because of any strong objection to provisions of the funding bill but because it omits a provision they want: an amnesty for illegal immigrants who came to our country as minors. Most Republicans, including President Trump, favor this amnesty as well, but the parties have been unable to agree on what other policies, such as restrictions on follow-on immigration from the
Democrats called it the Trump shutdown. Republicans labeled it the Schumer shutdown. But in reality, it was the Dreamer shutdown. The recipe for the current congressional gridlock is complex, but at the top of the list of ingredients are the illegal immigrant Dreamers who pushed Democrats to launch the filibuster that sent the government careening into a partial shutdown. It’s a stunning display of political leverage for a group that, at most, numbers several million, can’t vote now, and even under the most generous proposals wouldn’t be able to cast ballots for another decade. Yet they have amassed an extraordinary amount of
It´s no secret that Mitt Romney is, in all likelihood, going to run for a Senate seat in Utah. What´s less clear, however, is why the man who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and is now retired and occupying an elder-statesman role in a party torn into warring factions would want to serve as a junior senator. Once elected, Romney would find himself embroiled in day-to-day congressional fights and less free to voice his criticisms of the White House, while losing some of the deference he´s been shown by members of his own party. But listen to any number of Republicans and
Malia Obama, who is studying at Harvard University, has boyfriend! But some black people on Twitter have questioned her choice in men, because Malia´s new homey, Rory Farquharson, is white. (5 tweets) This racism on the part of some in the black community, who are bruddas and sistas to us all, is very sad. Most white people want us to grow together as a community. I just wish everyone of all races felt the same way. Questions for discussion: After years of Obama´s race baiting, President Trump is the first "post-racial" president to follow him. What do you think President Trump
Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) questioned President Donald Trump’s new campaign ad saying Democrats “will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants” if they continued the shutdown. Ryan said, “They are certainly not helping us keep the government open. They are certainly not helping us get to a solution on immigration. When you shut down the government you stop negotiating on immigration reform. They’re complicity with not getting things done.” He added, “I’m not going to comment. I just saw that. I don’t know if that’s necessarily productive. It’s no
The Daily Caller journalist Chuck Ross has some extremely interesting information released today surrounding former top FBI Counterintelligence Agent Peter Strzok and DOJ/FBI liaison attorney Lisa Page which includes a disclosure by top FBI officials that text messages between Strzok and Page have gone missing. (Snip) According to information relayed to Senator Ron Johnson, the period of time the FBI has “lost” is from December 14th, 2016 to May 17th, 2017, the exact day that Special Counsel Robert Mueller was assigned to lead the Russia collusion probe. As CTH has previously outlined the same “small group” inside the DOJ and FBI,
Investigators in both House and Senate were stunned late Friday when, receiving a batch of newly-released texts between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, they also received notice from the bureau that the FBI "failed to preserve" Strzok-Page messages from December 14, 2016 through May 17, 2017. Given the amount of texting that went on between Strzok and Page, who were having an extramarital affair, that probably meant thousands of missing documents. A number of critical events in the Trump-Russia affair occurred between December 2016 and May 2017, including: Conversations between Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russian ambassador Sergey
Question: Do you think Donald Trump spends more time thinking about Hillary Clinton than Hillary Clinton spends thinking about Donald Trump? Sure does seem like it. The other day, President Trump was discussing Russia at a press conference with the prime minister of Norway, when he suddenly announced that Clinton “was not for a strong military and Hillary, my opponent, was for windmills, and she was for other types of energy that don’t have the same capacities at this moment certainly.” Yeah, it didn’t make any sense. But he really can’t seem to get past her. Recently while promoting tax
Adam Schiff, reputedly a champion leaker from the House Intelligence Committee when it came to Russiagate material, suddenly thinks Ignorance is Bliss when it comes to the FISA warrant used to spy on the Trump campaign. Appearing on CNN, he tried to justify keep the 4 page memo that reportedly exposes the individuals who acted as part of a cabal to undermine the Trump campaign with help from NSA spying, and then pushed the “Russia collusion” conspiracy theory as part of the “insurance policy.” Americans are too ignorant, you see. Do you think Democrats are starting to panic? (Video) Rush
WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called the government shutdown a “manufactured crisis” created by Democrats who want a permanent Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) fix, which he referred to as a “non-emergency” issue that does not belong in the short-term spending bill to continue federal government operations. “The one non-emergency issue our friends on the other side of the aisle are trying to shoehorn into this discussion doesn’t reach that status of emergency until March. This is pure folly. The American people know so, that´s why in a recent survey a majority said keeping the government open
Calling the Trump administration’s tax reform plan a “middle-class tax increase,” two California lawmakers introduced a bill that would force large companies to fork over half of their expected savings to the state. Assemblymen Kevin McCarty and Phil Ting, both Democrats, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 22, which calls for a 10 percent surcharge on companies with a net earnings over $1 million. The plan could potentially raise billions for the state´s social services programs. “It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals,” Ting said in a statement,
The Senate on Monday was set to hold a successful vote to reopen the federal government, after Senate Democrats agreed to let the bill through even though it doesn´t include immigration language they are seeking. "We will vote today to reopen the government to continue negotiating a global agreement," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the floor. Under the bill up to be called up, the government would be fully funded through Feb. 8, and it would fund the Children´s Health Insurance Program for six years. It would also reopen the government, which has been partially closed since midnight
It has been four months since Megyn Kelly earned the wrath and ire of Jane Fonda for asking the 80-year-old actress about her plastic surgery, and the NBC host is now responding to the backlash. That moment occurred during Kelly´s third episode when she asked the Oscar-winner about what work she had done in the past, which prompted a steely Fonda to stare Kelly down and ask: ´We really want to talk about that now?´ Since then Fonda has complained about the question to a number of outlets, and even mocked Kelly´s question on Today last week during an interview
