We already know Steve Bannon believes that politics is war. But during the course of his speech at an Alabama rally for Roy Moore this week, he gave the country an ugly lesson in what scorched-earth political warfare really entails. (Snip)Still, despite all the fun he’s having attacking his favorite targets and boosting Moore, Bannon has to be aware that he isn’t winning his war on McConnell. Try as he might to deny it, he knows McConnell is now more important to Trump than the Breitbart attack machine is. It was McConnell’s successful maneuvering and negotiating that gave Trump his
I don´t know. He helped get Trump elected against all odds.
The war that was most "ill-conceived", IMO, was the war NRO declared on Trump. When they put out that ridiculous Never Trump issue, I was still very much against him. Even then I said it was moronic to do that, and I´ve been proven correct.
Since then, Trump has proven to be our most conservative-in-action president in decades. And a lot of that is with support from Bannon. NRO still has not accepted Trump and they still lob journalistic grenades at Bannon. They´ve missed the point entirely.
I ams so happy Boehner & McConnell fought Obama´s spending plans ´tooth & nail´. That DOUBLED our national debt in 7 years - added $10 TRILLION in unpaid spending - those Establishment guys are our savior!! Think of how bad things w/b without their courageous efforts.... I was so inspirational - it reminded me of when 43 was elected and Mehlman was the RNC leader - sending me request for contributions, when 43 was approving spending going through the roof....made me so proud back then....
Can´t wait till Trump pivots and starts the fight to rein-in the Swamp´s spending of our children´s future - today.....
With Bannon it´s all about Bannon. Bannon foisting a pedophile on the GOP is going to hurt DT´s agenda. DEMs will wrap the pedophile around the GOPs neck, the way the GOP wrapped Clinton around the DEMs neck for years. Whether Moore wins or loses the GOP loses. Lastly, Moore will be the loneliest Pol in DC... no one will want to be pictured with him... I can see it now people sprinting away from the picture frame if his picture is being taken.... a Moore-induced sprint.
Those who liked the witch from Delaware, who gave a sure-thing R seat to the Ds, and Sharron Angle, who likewise kept an R from unseating Harry Reid in Nevada, will surely like the stable that Bannon conjures up to help give the House back to the Democrats.
I completely disagree; Bannon is a conscience buster. He is a force that is impossible to ignore and we have needed such a force for a long, long time. Tobin says "McConnell´s hard work" is what pushed through the Senate tax reform "win". Well, it is not won yet and we have to ask, would "Mr. Turtle" have done that effort if it had not been for Bannon´s constant badgering and accusations of many in the GOPe end of the pool? Motivation is a very needed element in getting things down and as far as I can tell, such as in the effort to repeal Obamacare, Mr. turtle was about as unmotivated a leader as I have ever seen! Can we explain McConnell´s vicious attacks on Roy Moore or his un-explainable forced stupidity in all but tossing that election to the GD Democrat? To say McConnell all on his own suddenly has become a Trump Champion is to exceed the limits of believably. McConnell did what he did because of the public awareness about his utter duplicity and I think Bannon has a lot to do with that.
I like the Honey Badger... and I´ve been pleasantly surprised by the Commander-in-Chief. (I voted for him, although in honesty it was mostly a vote against the PIAPS.)
That said... I think both Bannon and Trump sometimes "shoot from the hip" - with a scatter-gun - and incur collateral damage.
I´m a "devout" Mormon. Perhaps not as devout as Romney... but a believer and practitioner. I served a 2-year full-time mission, and NOT to avoid the draft (my lottery # was 320). I wasn´t offended by Bannon´s Mormon remarks... but I´m not easily offended. And I can certainly understand how fellow Mormons could take umbrage. And Mormons are a consistently-conservative voting bloc, as a rule.
I´m with Bannon 100% and this article is pure BS. You better believe it is a war. If Hillary was elected the borders would be wide open in the quest for more democrat votes and the end of this nation would follow.
Tobin appears to be in denial. This is "war", and there will be no quarter given to the progressive/socialist not the GOPe. Even IF the "establishment is able to take down Trump and Bannon, someone else will simply fill the void and the "war" will continue to its ultimate conclusion. Come on Tobin, in case you haven´t noticed, everything you thought you knew changed dramatically with last November´s election. Get over it or get the heck out of the way. No fence riding this time, you are either with us or against us. You make the choice.
#13 - a "sure thing" Republican senator from Delaware would have been another Susan Collins. That would have gotten us exactly nowhere. Frankly, I´d rather have a democrat than yet another RINO that could hold everything hostage.
There´s a lot I don´t know but I do know that the GOP establishment has been quietly at war with me nibbling away at my flanks while I have been repelling the frontal assaults the of the democrat party.
Bannon is part of how I came to see that my flanks were being rolled up. Its hard to see that as ill-conceived.
Would McConnell have been as successful or successful at all if it weren´t for a bit of an attitude adjustment by we the people in part delivered by Bannon?
The Moore campaign has debunked all of the false claims of sex attacks against young girls, as well as the claim by the former cop that the police were tasked with following Moore around, as well as the claim that he´d been banned from a shopping mall. You´d think a reputable publication such as NRO would have the resources to know these things, yet NRO had proudly shed any semblance of integrity.
Lies from the article re: Judge Moore. Would the Democrats have written anything differently? "the former judge who stands credibly accused of preying on multiple young girls ... an accused sexual predator like Moore ... an embrace of someone widely viewed by most Americans as a scoundrel ... despite his unsavory past and extremist views..."
I would like to see Moore file libel suits against any and all, after his win.
This is cute too; FTA: "It’s also true that, with the retirements of Jeff Flake and Bob Corker, Bannon will probably fail to make good on his promise to use primary challenges to purge the House and Senate of everyone on his enemies list."
The Flake and Corker Democrat trash walked themselves to the curb because they would not survive the primaries. Snakes like these know how to preserve their earning potential, if nothing else, yet Tobin counts their removal from office as a failure by Bannon? Funnier still, NRO expects people to pay for such weak punditry?
They sure are protesting at Bannon a lot. Why? Because he´s effective and right. The Romneybots are all out agreeing once again with NRO pantywaists. Those poor snowflakes who are upset the people might have a say in what happens to this country again. I say... Go Bannon!
If the Never Trumpers were Trumpers, there would be no war on the establishment, no Mueller investigation, Obamacare would be repealed, a better tax plan, budget cuts and a blowout in 2018 election. But the establishment just didn´t like Mr. Trump and sacrificed their voters and American citizens for what, I just don´t know. What idiots! Go Bannon Go. They gave Trumpers no choice.
I do not see anything ill conceived about the war on the GOPe, who have accomplished exactly nothing since the 1990´s. And everything accomplished today is due to Trump, as the GOPe would have continued to do nothing.
I’m with him on declaring war on the Repstsblishment. Look what we have as a result of their anti Conservative Progressive agenda and the current failure across the board to provide real leadership. How much worse will it have to get before enough is enough. I’m sure McConnell and Ryan would support Trumps impeachment if the Democrats ever got the opportunity to do it, just to prove they can govern in a bipartisan manner. The days of a balanced budget are gone for good and they will make sure they spend this country into financial oblivion. Until then go ahead and bash Bannon if it makes you feel any better.
Bannon is effective in ways we will never know. He has got the gift of prescience and the means of implementing his vision. Breitbart needs to back up to no other site when it comes to influence. Keep shining that bright light in all the corners.
Bannon is a hero and attacking the Establishment is exactly the right thing to do.
All the RINO horrorshows that we have had for the last couple of decades are because the Uniparty doesn´t care what the voters want, they want to seesaw back and forth with no real changes as we march steadily to an irreversible globalist power structure with the USA crippled.
After a destructive wildfire swept from Calabasas to Malibu in 1993, the head of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy stood on a mountaintop on live TV and made a radical proposal. He called for a “three-strikes” rule to limit the number of times recovery funds could be spent to help rebuild a home destroyed by wildfire. Today, Joseph T. Edmiston is still wincing from the blowback. But he hasn’t backed down. Just the opposite. “I think two strikes is enough and they ought to be bought out,” Edmiston said, after spending three days coordinating the conservancy’s crews on the Skirball, Rye and Creek
The more squared-away among us have been doing their Christmas shopping for a while. People like me are getting started. It’s fashionable to dislike shopping. Men of course aren’t supposed to enjoy shopping, because shopping is a stereotypically female thing, and we men are weirdly delicate in the face of such threats. (Snip)When the alien archeologists land on Earth in some future age, they’ll see the Chrysler Building and Grand Central Terminal and they’ll know that there was once a real civilization here on Earth. (“And the wind shall say: ‘Here were decent Godless people: Their only monument the asphalt
At this point in the first Trump administration, the Left´s derangement at the election of an NOKD outsider is already well into the red zone. Exhibit A: At one point during the online streaming of the game last month, two white announcers for a Forest City radio station, KIOW, began riffing on the Hispanic names of some players from the mildly more diverse community of Eagle Grove. “They’re all foreigners,” said Orin Harris, a longtime announcer; his partner, Holly Jane Kusserow-Smidt, a board operator at the station who was also a third-grade teacher, answered: “Exactly.” For some people, this is
If you’re looking for a Justice Department scandal regarding Robert Mueller´s investigation into Russia´s influence of the 2016 election, it´s hiding in plain sight. Look no further than the government´s release of the private texts between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. Both Strzok, an FBI counter-intelligence agent, and Page, an FBI lawyer, were involved in the 2016 investigation into Hillary Clinton´s private email server, and were both briefly on Mueller´s team investigating Russia´s influence of the 2016 election. In the texts from 2015 and 2016, they complained about the Republican presidential nominee´s intelligence and demeanor (including in unprintable terms). In July,
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) made the right move Thursday when it undid an Obama-era power grab commonly referred to as “net neutrality,” ending the agency’s micro-management of the internet. The FCC action benefits consumers and ensures that the internet will be free from burdensome government control. In a 3-2 vote, the FCC approved the Restoring Internet Freedom Order. The order reverses a decision made by the Obama administration to regulate internet service providers (ISPs) under the Telecommunications Act of 1934 – a law intended to establish rules for phone and local electric companies enacted decades before development of the internet. Although the
The family has gathered for the holidays, and everyone is merry, but your smile is halfhearted because you know better. You know that sooner or later your relatives will be fiercely divided, as all families are this time of year, by that age-old question: Who was the greatest military general in history? Granddad sticks with the classic: Caesar. Aunt Kathy, feeling clever: Saladin. Uncle Bill, after some lengthy, awkward qualifying preamble: Robert E. Lee. Your 7-year-old little brother Tyson, shouting from the kids’ table with some pretty solid name-based logic: Alexander the Great. Soon battles are reenacted in mashed potato
World War I ended with the collapse of vast empires and the age-old monarchies that ran them. What kind of a new world would emerge from the imperial rubble? The poet William Butler Yeats was nothing if not pessimistic. In 1919, he wrote: Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the center cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world . . . Have we come to a similar breaking point in the world today, as some people think — an unfolding of events that leads not to peace and
That is what the widow of Kentucky State Rep Dan Johnson, who killed himself over molestation accusations, said about her husband´s suicide : LOUISVILLE — Dan Johnson posted a final message to his friends and family Wednesday afternoon on Facebook. It appeared to be a goodbye. In it, Johnson denied the accusations that had tormented him and his family for the past 48 hours — that he, a Kentucky state representative and the self-proclaimed “Pope” of his Louisville church, had gotten drunk and molested a 17-year-old girl during a sleepover years ago. “GOD knows the truth, nothing is the way they make it
‘Our record as journalists in covering this Trump story and the Russian story is pretty good,” legendary reporter Carl Bernstein recently claimed. Pretty good? If there’s a major news story over the past 70 years that the American media have botched more often because of bias and wishful thinking, I’d love to hear about it. Four big scoops recently run by major news organizations, written by top reporters and, presumably, churned through layers of scrupulous editing, turned out to be completely wrong. Reuters, Bloomberg and others reported that special counsel Robert Mueller’s office had subpoenaed President Trump’s records from Deutsche Bank.
A defiant Roy Moore told supporters on Friday that the battle for the Alabama Senate seat is "not over," despite President Trump, who backed him during the campaign, calling on him to concede. Moore went on to email supporters asking for contributions to his "election integrity fund´ so he could investigate reports of voter fraud. "I also wanted to let you know that this battle is NOT OVER!" he wrote in the email. Democrat Doug Jones on Tuesday defeated Moore by about 20,000 votes, or 1.5 percent, according to unofficial returns. A defiant Roy Moore told supporters on Friday that the battle for
Bowl season is here, and before the best four teams in the country step into the spotlight on New Year’s Day, college football fans will be treated to a cross-country tour of unique venues and uncommon matchups as 74 other teams get a chance to end their 2017 campaigns on a positive note. While it doesn’t approach the nationwide fervor stirred up by March Madness, contests in which fans attempt to predict the winners of every single bowl game have become a staple of the early December lull between Army-Navy and the start of the bowl schedule. But the postseason
When ESPN canceled its new program with Barstool Sports this fall after just one episode, the network tried to distance itself from the men’s blog that has stoked criticism for everything from calling Rihanna fat to saying girls wearing skinny jeans deserve to be raped. But a controversy about the treatment of women was already brewing inside the network. The Bristol, Conn., juggernaut was under scrutiny for a sexual harassment and retaliation complaint filed this summer with the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities. And ESPN’s willingness to partner with Barstool emboldened others to speak out about the entrenched locker room culture,
Over 700 employees at the Environmental Protection Agency have quit or taken early retirement during the Trump administration so far, bringing the agency close to employment levels not seen since Reagan. ThinkProgress, whose senior editor is scared of his plumber who he fears may have voted for Trump, is warning that the exodus will lead to "dirtier air" and "dirtier water." "Since Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt took over the top job at the agency in March, more than 700 employees have either retired, taken voluntary buyouts, or quit, signaling the second-highest exodus of employees from the agency in nearly a
An MSNBC spokesman confirmed Saturday the company made a separation-related payment to one of Chris Matthews employees after the woman complained about sexual harassment. Two sources familiar with the situation told The Daily Caller that Matthews paid $40,000 to settle with an assistant producer on his show, “Hardball with Chris Matthews,” in 1999 after she accused him of harassment. An MSNBC spokesperson contested that claim to the Caller, saying the company instead paid significantly less as part of a severance package. The woman complained to CNBC executives about Matthews making inappropriate comments and jokes about her while in the company
There’s bad news and there’s worse news for President Donald Trump in new polls released this week. First comes the latest round of polling showing that Trump is the most unpopular president on record. Just 32% of respondents to a new Associated Press-NORC poll said they approved of the job Trump is doing as president, while an overwhelming 67% they disapproved. Among those who don’t think the president is doing a good job, more than half say they “strongly disapprove” of his work. The poll — conducted earlier this month — also suggests that nearly 70% of Americans believe the United States is “heading
I don’t know whether this is comedy or a sign that in rural America, Democrats really don’t have anyone to run in statewide races. There were rumors that Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) could become the next director of the CIA, current CIA Director Mike Pompeo would become secretary of state, and current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would be asked to take a hike. Talk about some unwelcome Thanksgiving news if you’re Tillerson. The Trump White House has rejected the notion that this plan is in the works. Tillerson himself said he’s never considered leaving his current post.
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) suggested Thursday that Americans need to have more babies or risk a collapse of popular entitlements like Medicare and Social Security. “This is going to be the new economic challenge for America: people. Baby boomers are retiring — I did my part, but we need to have higher birth rates in this country,” Ryan, a father of three, told reporters as he riffed on how Republicans will tackle entitlement and welfare reform in 2018. “Baby boomers are retiring and we have fewer people following them in the workforce.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is returning to Arizona and will miss the final vote on his party’s tax bill this week, CBS News reported Sunday. McCain, who has been hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center suffering from the side effects of his treatment for brain cancer, reportedly left Washington, D.C., on Sunday to return home for the holidays. This means he will not be in D.C. for the GOP tax bill vote, which is expected to take place early in the week. Republicans have won over two key votes for the measure, meaning they should still have the razor-thin majority needed to
For much of the year, Kirsten Gillibrand’s critics — sensing a presidential aspirant in their midst — had assumed that the New York senator could not hear enough about herself. For one day at least, it appeared she had. It had been about 10 hours since President Trump accused her of “begging” for campaign contributions that she “would do anything” to secure, and the Ms. Gillibrand, driving with her 14-year-old son on Tuesday evening, flipped on the radio looking for an update on the Senate race in Alabama. The top story, instead, was her. The radio went off again. What, exactly,
Democrats hate her (#Tolerance)... Feminists despise her (#GlassCeiling)... Progressives want her silenced (#Diversity)... And the liberal media dreads her. Who is she? She’s Sarah Huckabee Sanders. In case you’ve been hiding under a freshly broken shard of glass from one of the ceilings being broken all over Washington D.C. lately - keep reading, it gets better. She’s the 3rd female to ever hold the office of the White House Press Secretary. - Dee Dee Myers was the first under Clinton (1993-1994) - Dana Perino was the 2nd who served under Bush in 2007 And it’s no surprise that Trump put her there because she’s perfect for the job.
Democrats, who have a monopoly of power in California politics, are proposing to spend $1 billion a year to provide health care to illegal immigrants living in the state. Medi-Cal, which is the state’s Medicaid program, would eliminate legal residency requirements. The proposal was offered as part of a $4.3 billion proposal from San Francisco Democrat Assemblyman Phil Ting, the head of the Assembly budget committee. According to NBC Bay Area, 7% of people residing in California lack health coverage, many of them illegal immigrants. California has already eliminated legal residency requirements for Medicaid coverage for
Hillary Clinton responded to a "Saturday Night Live" actor who showed off a new tattoo in the former Democratic presidential nominee´s likeness.Pete Davidson posted an image of his new Hillary ink on his Instagram page, saying it was a "gift" for the 2016 runner-up."Wanted to get @HillaryClinton a Christmas gift so I got a tattoo of my hero," Davidson, 24, wrote on Instagram. "Thanks for being such a bad-[expletive] and one of the strongest people in the universe," he wrote. (Tweet) Clinton later commented on Davidson´s post, thanking him for his support."Thanks," the former first lady wrote. "This makes it
Spurred by the multitude of sexual abuse scandals, top Hollywood executives have tapped Anita Hill to chair the newly formed Commission on Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the Workplace. The commission made the announcement Friday following a meeting convened by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Nike Foundation founder and co-chair Maria Eitel, Nina Shaw, and venture captialist Freada Kapor Klein. “The Commission will not seek just one solution, but a comprehensive strategy to address the complex and inter-related causes of the problems of parity and power,” said Kennedy.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is “worried” the House Intelligence Committee is about to pull the plug on the Russia investigation. In a Friday Tweetstorm, the Committee’s ranking Democrat fretted about the future of the probe — which Schiff believes is something of a sham. “Republicans have scheduled no witnesses after next Friday and none in 2017,” Schiff wrote. “We have dozens of outstanding witnesses on key aspects of our investigation that they refuse to contact and many document requests they continue to sit on.” The California Democrat added, “It appears Republicans want to conduct just enough interviews to give the
