GE slashes 1,100 jobs in the Midlands as
global demand for gas and coal-fired
power plants hits the skids

GE is slashing 1,100 jobs from its UK power business under an organisational restructure, the firm announced. The planned losses will hit the UK´s engineering heartland in the Midlands, affecting Stafford and Rugby, with the total potential losses representing around 6 per cent of the company´s UK workforce. GE blamed deteriorating market conditions which have had a ´significant impact´ on its economic performance, adding that demand for new built power plants had ´dramatically´ dropped in all developing countries. The US industrial group expects the ´painful but necessary´ job losses to help save $1billion next year as demand for fossil fuel power plants

I´m sure that they are all going to be replaced by solar power - well except for at night, of course. You wanted power at night, too?

Oh, my. I´m sorry that will not longer be possible in the future.

WASHINGTON — Nikki R. Haley, the American ambassador to the United Nations, said on Sunday that women who have accused President Trump of sexual misconduct “should be heard,” a break from the administration’s longstanding assertion that the allegations are false and that voters rightly dismissed them when they elected Mr. Trump. Ms. Haley, a former governor and one of the highest-ranking women in Mr. Trump’s administration, refocused attention on the allegations against the president by insisting that his accusers should be treated no differently than the scores of women who have come forward in recent weeks with stories of sexual

King David’s Psalm number two opens with the rhetorical question – “Why are the nations in an uproar?” Well now we know. The European nations (nearly all of them) that conspired with Germany to wipe out the Jews barely 75 years ago, cannot accept the fact that Israel Lives. That’s one. Two, that Israel lives with Jerusalem as its capital, as endorsed by the United States through President Trump – it’s driving them crazy. Delirium has set in from France, Germany (that’s nerve), Britain, Sweden and throughout the European Union. They can’t forgive Trump for being so heroic and they will never forget

SADIQ Khan has been slammed after hiring a group headed by a staunch Remainer to write reports about the potential impacts of leaving the EU. The London Mayor is believed to have splurged £42,270 on the reports about how Brexit could impact the capital´s economy. They will be produced by Cambridge Econometrics, which has already predicted economic doom when Britain leaves the EU. The group´s director, Richard Murphy, campaigned for a Remain vote last year and claimed Brexit would spark an recession. In a furious attack on the Mayor, Ukip London Assembly member Peter Whittle accused Mr Khan of failing

During a rally to promote Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, Donald Trump continued to attack the ´rigged´ and ´sick´ government institutions that he claims try to thwart his administration. At the Friday night event to promote the alleged sexual assaulter, he said: ´This is a rigged system. This is a sick system from the inside. ´And, you know, there is no country like our country but we have a lot of sickness in some of our institutions.´ He did not name FBI special counsel Robert Mueller by name in the speech, but has done battle with the bureau as it continues

Theresa May today crowned her church´s Christmas tree with a shoe in fitting tribute to her love of expensive footwear. The Prime Minister beamed as she placed the silver heel while husband Philip watched on in their Maidenhead church. Mrs May described shoes as ´the love of her life´ after famously chiding her colleagues for their reputation as ´the nasty party´ in a pair of leopard-print kitten heels in 2002. The tree she crowned was one of many in St Luke´s church which held its annual tree festival today. There was not a hint of tiredness about Mrs May who

President Donald Trump is committed to ongoing efforts to reach an Israeli-Palestinian peace accord, the U.S. ambassador to the UN said Friday amid a backlash over his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel´s capital. "Let me again assure you, the president and this administration remain committed to the peace process," Ambassador Nikki Haley said at an emergency meeting of the Security Council that was convened over Trump´s decision Wednesday. She added that Trump, in his reversal of two decades of American foreign policy, was simply recognizing reality, since the Israeli government and parliament are

California´s governor has said that deadly wildfires in the winter will be ´the new normal´, as fire crews rushed to contain the fires, with dry desert winds expected to intensify over the weekend. Governor Jerry Brown on Saturday toured Ventura County neighborhoods ravaged by a weeklong wildfire that killed at least one person and destroyed hundreds of homes and other buildings. At a news conference, the Democrat said drought and climate change mean California faces a ´new reality´ where lives and property are continually threatened by fire, at a cost of billions of dollars. There are times in life when the institutional ground underneath you begins to crumble — and with it, longstanding attachments. Such is the case for me when it comes to the Republican Party and evangelicalism. I’ve been a part of both for my entire adult life. These days, though, in many important ways they are having harmful effects on our society. The latest example is in Alabama, where Roy Moore, the Republican Senate candidate, stands accused of varying degrees of sexual misconduct by nine women, including one who was 14 years old at the time. Elizabeth Shackelford, who most recently served as a political officer based in Nairobi for the U.S. mission to Somalia, wrote to Tillerson that she reluctantly had decided to quit because the administration had abandoned human rights as a priority and shown disdain for the State Department’s diplomatic work,

I´m pretty much done with the sex scandals. They were fun, but they´re just going to have to carry on without me. If someone broke the law and you can prove it, prosecute him. If someone violated the rules of his organization, eject him. Other than that, if women have forgotten the fine art of slapping a man in the face, there´s not a whole hell of a lot society can do for them. You keep silent for forty years and then ruin a man´s career with an unprovable allegation — and that makes you a hero? Not to me. Look,

Short of impeaching President Trump, does anything excite Democrats, the Resistance, and NeverTrumpers like the prospect of the president firing special counsel Robert Mueller? Firing Mueller would, or course, be the quickest way for Trump to get impeached, which might explain a certain air of anticipation in discussions of whether — some prefer to say when -- Trump will sack the prosecutor leading the Trump-Russia investigation. There has been a lot of news and commentary recently interpreting criticism of Mueller by a number of pro-Trump media voices as an effort to encourage Trump to fire Mueller, or lay the groundwork for

WASHINGTON — Around 5:30 each morning, President Trump wakes and tunes into the television in the White House’s master bedroom. He flips to CNN for news, moves to “Fox & Friends” for comfort and messaging ideas, and sometimes watches MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” because, friends suspect, it fires him up for the day. Other times he tweets from the den next door, watching another television. Less frequently, he makes his way up the hall to the
