Maybe Trump knows his
base better than we do

Washington Post, by Fareed Zakaria

Watching the Republican tax plan race through Congress, one is reminded of a big apparent difference between President Trump’s program and other populist movements in the Western world. In the United States, Trump is leading something that is best described as plutocratic populism, a mixture of traditional populist causes with extreme libertarian ones. Congress’s own think tanks — the Joint Committee on Taxation and the Congressional Budget Office — calculate that in 10 years, people making between $50,000 and $75,000 (around the median income in the United States) would effectively pay a whopping $4 billion more in taxes, while people making

I agree with #1. It is obvious the dems and establishment do not understand Trump or his supporters. That is good news, right now it looks like a lot of the establishment are once again going to be shocked and deranged by the results of the coming elections.

Deja Vous all over again!

As usual he looks at one set of numbers and draws a massive conclusion without explaining the underlying info. I would be lumped into his median income group saying I would pay more. In my personal circumstances I will be better off with an increased standard deduction rather than a litany of deductions. Where are these median income people who will be paying more taxes? This comes to $400Million per year over the 10 years. How many taxpayers are impacted? 1 million? 10 million? Are those in blue states (NY, NJ, CA, etc) more unevenly impacted due to high taxes? Will those in lower tax states better off? The article is woefully short on information.

I can see it in the first paragraph excerpted here. I´ll save my "click" for a healthier source.

As I recall it, way back in 1998 or thereabouts I first proposed reforming the federal income tax system such that the Democrats had their taxes increased, and the Republicans had their taxes decreased.

I think we have success in this package.

All should be happy.

Maybe Trump´s people can read a CBO report better than Fareed Zakaria. If you look at page 10 of the linked document, you can see that the numbers he is referring to are only for the year 2027. For the year 2021 the numbers are $19.47 billion savings for the middle class segment and $28.69 billion savings for the top income segment.

Of course, the fact that they do these projections out 10 years based on tax increases 8+ years in the future, that we all know will not happen, is a joke. You only have to look at the projections for ObamaCare to see that.

What Trump´s base know is that projections that the media likes to quote are useless. They are wrong, incomplete, biased, and messed up.

An example. One of these projections say medical costs will rise for lower income people because they, freed from the BOCare mandate, will CHOOSE not to buy health care, and somehow that will increase their costs.

There is no way to really know what will happen or the financial impact. It´s all guesswork, just like the original BOCare "projections were, and were TOTALLY wrong.

The tax bill tries to get government off the backs of the people and free the economy from absurd levels of tax. It´s the right thing to do and is likely to be effective. How much exactly is anyone´s guess.

So spin your numbers Fareed. They are worthless as is your "reporting".

For the moment, passage of the tax reform bill looks probable, with 52 votes from all GOP senators. But two remain hospitalized, and one cannot rule out all contingencies, ranging from transport difficulties to last minute changes of mind. As it turns out, there is, and has been, an unspoken fail-safe option. My friend Norman Rogers thought it up, and queried Congressman Dave Brat about it. Here is the correspondence: On Dec 14, 2017, at 12:11 PM, Norman Rogers wrote:?? Dave,?? If the conference bill is defeated in the Senate, could the previous bill passed

On the heels of its multiple failures to repeal Obamacare, the troublesome Senate has finally gotten its act together enough to pass a $1.6-trillion tax cut. Politico has published a long, anonymously sourced piece reporting that House speaker Paul Ryan is planning to leave office after the 2018 midterms. Coming with perfect timing against a similar Huffington Post piece, it has the look of a media hit job. The goal is for the swamp to think Ryan is a lame duck so he can no longer be effective as House speaker. According to the piece, Ryan wants out to...spend more time with his family. One of the more obvious things about the Trump economy is how much better it is than the Obama economy. Yet incredibly, President Obama, as if jealously looking on at this night-and-day difference, is trying to claim credit for it. From the Washington Times: Former President Barack Obama is taking credit for the robust economic growth that is taking place under President Trump. At a conference of mayors in Chicago, Mr. Obama congratulated himself Tuesday for strong employment numbers in the U.S. this year, saying his climate-change policies have contributed to growth.
