Kate Steinle’s family speaks
San Francisco Chronicle, by John Diaz

As they awaited the verdict in the trial of Kate Steinle’s accused killer, her parents and brother had one overriding wish. It had nothing to do with the severity of the defendant’s conviction. Above all, they wanted it to mark the end of a public profile they neither sought nor enjoyed. Each media interview, each exploitation of Kate’s name for political gain, each still shot of her smile on television only amplified the anguish of their loss. Yet they also wanted to convey their appreciation for the many strangers who, having heard their story, offered solace and assistance. “We just want

We will make San Francisco pay. They are like the NFL. They think they can do whatever they want and we, the little people, will have to put up with it. People have stopped watching and going to NFL games and buying their products. San Francisco is going to feel the same wrath of the good people in this country.
We don´t have to go to San Francisco, we don´t have to buy products from San Francisco. I will stay very far away and will visit other places. And I grew up in Oakland and loved going over to San Francisco to the Giants games. Never again. Looking forward to the whining from the city on the bay.

As was said in The Godfather, "Infamita, pronounced "In-FOM-nya" in the film.

If you want to see San Francisco in its glory, circa 1957-1958, watch Alfred Hitchcock´s Vertigo (his greatest movie of many, and one of the handful of greatest movies of all time, IMO; it is in my top five of all time). What a shame that this beautiful city, physically the most beautiful metropolis in America, has had to put up with idiocy in their elected representatives. The voters are to blame. What a shame.

The Federal Government can step in and charge this asshat with violating Kate Steinle´s Civil Rights. That´s what happened to the police officers in the Rodney King debacle. In addition, someone needs to look into bringing charges against anyone in the San Francisco system that had ANYTHING to do with passing the sanctuary city legislation.

As for #10´s reply, I recall Aimee Mann´s (sister-in-law of Sean Penn and the most talented person in the extended Penn family) pretty song "Build That Wall," written in the late ´Nineties and featured in Paul Thomas Anderson´s movie Magnolia, which is well worth watching. The song had nothing to do with the border wall, as necessary as it is to build.

Whenever I used to get flustered about injustices and frustrating situations, my angel mother used to tell me that "don´t worry, [these] things fall by their own weight." She was right.
SanFran is not what it´s cranked up to be; the natural beauty around it can be found in other places --- if you only look and keep from believing the hype. SanFran is now a bona fide Third World mecca, filled with the filthy rich (mainly from Silicon Valley), and the filthy poor (everyone else).
Homelessness abound and you cannot do anything about vagrants defecating in the street or in front of you. Legitimately needy people get lost in the shuffle; very few can afford housing prices. The leftist policies have taken a heavy toll.
The flight by "middle" income families is steady and long-term. SanFran has one of the lowest student/teacher ratio anywhere: people do not/can´t afford to reproduce and families have departed --- many of its elementary schools have closed. So, its city government has a very limited tax base, relying heavily on the nouveau riche.
All that, before discussing its sanctuary policies.
How long will they be able to survive? SanFran is oblivious to historical facts; it believes it is creating nirvana. The best thing this administration could do is CUT all its funding until it obeys the law. If and when; I´m not holding any hope, and certainly not holding my breath.

The Steimle family´s assessment of this tragedy is very astute. They are intelligent, compassionate people who knew the trial would not end well. They didn´t get justice for their beloved daughter/sister but they set an excellent example not for vindictiveness but for change. I hope they live to see some fair and just changes in our dealing with illegal criminals. There are tipping points.

One of the more obvious things about the Trump economy is how much better it is than the Obama economy. Yet incredibly, President Obama, as if jealously looking on at this night-and-day difference, is trying to claim credit for it. From the Washington Times: Former President Barack Obama is taking credit for the robust economic growth that is taking place under President Trump. At a conference of mayors in Chicago, Mr. Obama congratulated himself Tuesday for strong employment numbers in the U.S. this year, saying his climate-change policies have contributed to growth.

Jerry Brown is at it again. Blaming Californians for the devastating series of California wildfires month, he went Full Moonbeam and declared the problem a function of global warming, calling it a new normal about which nothing is to be done. As if wildfires that sweep away homes in California´s unique Mediteranean microclimates have never happened before this past week. Compare and contrast to President Trump´s gracious tweet on the matter, which was the classy thing to say: Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path of California’s wildfires. I encourage everyone to heed the advice and orders of local and state

LOS ANGELES – A flare-up on the western edge of Southern California´s largest and most destructive wildfire sent residents fleeing Sunday, as wind-fanned flames churned through canyons and down hillsides toward coastal towns. Crews with help from water-dropping aircraft saved several homes as unpredictable gusts sent the blaze churning deeper into foothill areas northwest of Los Angeles that haven´t burned in decades. New evacuations were ordered in Carpinteria, a seaside city in Santa Barbara County that has been under fire threat for days. After more than a decade of studying wildfires, San Diego County took its final exams last week. Did we pass? Authorities say the region is far better equipped to handle swift, wind-whipped flames than it was during the firestorms of 2007 and ’03. “We’re about $460 million more prepared,” Supervisor Dianne Jacob said Friday, “both on the ground and in the air.” Officials cited better communication between fire agencies; more fire engines and air tankers on the front lines, day and night; and better tracking of the flames. Despite these advances, the Lilac Fire’s first 24 hours consumed 4,100 acres

North County’s Lilac wildfire is now 20 percent contained as firefighters focus on hotspots and embers that could ignite islands of vegetation the fire hasn’t yet scorched.
