Amherst´s notorious wild turkey has no fear
of people, cars or Thanksgiving

The Buffalo News, by Joseph Popiolkowski

Original Article

Tom the turkey likes to play chicken with traffic. The plucky bird is a common sight at the intersection of Klein and Paradise roads in East Amherst, where he often blocks lanes, pecks at tires and circles cars. While a neighborhood fixture and quirky oddity, his bold behavior has also garnered Tom a reputation as a nuisance. "He´ll just walk up right in front of the cars," said Steve Levy, a resident of the nearby Roxbury Park neighborhood. "He´ll start going right by the tires and quite frankly it´s really kind of dangerous. I´m surprised nobody´s had an accident .

Before President Trump signed a formal proclamation on the 76th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, one veteran of the Japanese attack broke out in song. Trump said that, following the attack, a "battle cry could be heard by American friends and foes alike: Remember Pearl Harbor." The veteran standing closest to him smiled and began singing the lyrics to the Sammy Kaye song. "Let´s remember Pearl Harbor as we go to meet the foe. Let´s remember Pearl Harbor, as we did the Alamo," he sang. "We will always remember how they died for liberty. Let´s remember Pearl Harbor...

Kressa Jean Shepherd, a Ukiah High School junior who dreamed of becoming an artist, died here two days before Halloween. On Oct. 9, she and her family were fleeing the Redwood Valley firestorm when they were trapped by the blaze on the mountain near their home. The fire killed 14-year-old Kai Shepherd and inflicted grievous injury on his parents and 17-year-old sister, Kressa. Kressa had spent what can only be described as three harrowing, mostly unconscious weeks in the burn unit of Shriners Hospitals for Children, before her brain swelled and then stopped.

It all began in Buffalo. The brashness, the swagger, the overwhelming drive to make something of himself. Harvey Weinstein, the Hollywood film mogul now cast as a sexual predator, traces the roots of his show business dominance to his arrival at the University of Buffalo campus in the fall of 1969. It didn’t take long for the kid from Flushing, Queens, to make his mark. (snip) He also left his mark on Buffalo’s people. Eugene M. Fahey (now a state Court of Appeals judge) and Dennis E. Ward (now a state Supreme Court justice) became lifelong friends.

I´m pretty much done with the sex scandals. They were fun, but they´re just going to have to carry on without me. If someone broke the law and you can prove it, prosecute him. If someone violated the rules of his organization, eject him. Other than that, if women have forgotten the fine art of slapping a man in the face, there´s not a whole hell of a lot society can do for them. You keep silent for forty years and then ruin a man´s career with an unprovable allegation — and that makes you a hero? Not to me. Look,

Prior to President Donald Trump’s visit to the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum today, Fox & Friends brought on Trump supporter and former sheriff David Clarke to discuss the president’s appearance. WASHINGTON — Around 5:30 each morning, President Trump wakes and tunes into the television in the White House’s master bedroom. Scientists have captured a mysterious hum coming from deep inside the Earth, but they are still no closer to working out what it is. It has long been known that the Earth constantly generates a low-frequency vibrational signal. The first attempt to detect this hum was made in 1959, but it wasn´t until 1998 that scientists finally proved its existence. Since then, there have been hundreds of attempts to record the Earth´s hum, but they have all been made using seismometers on land.
