NEW YORK — Kirsten Gillibrand is having a moment, whether she meant to or not. Going where no other prominent Democrat had before on Thursday evening by declaring that Bill Clinton should have resigned the presidency during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the New York senator and potential 2020 presidential contender yet again found herself the face of a national conversation with the potential to dominate headlines and divide her party. At a time Democrats are desperate to keep the focus on accusations against President Donald Trump and Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, Gillibrand’s stand shocked even some of her close allies. They
Bill Cinton´s sexual sin in the White House is beyond my imagination and should have resulted in an immediate end to his time in Office. The unbelievable fact that the Media jumped to his defense is a sure admission that the media people approve of such sin.
I was stunned that so many people I met were brainwashed by the press and politicians into believing "It´s just about sex". They let Clinton´s behavior become a nothingburger. At the time I could only offer an analogy. What if the manager of a Jack-in-the-box was caught having sex in his office with his young new cash register girl? "He should lose his job!" they would say. "What´s the difference?" I´d ask. Invariably they´d make some remark about Clinton being the duly elected president and not subject to such trivial judgement. "All the more reason to boot him!" I´d respond. I could never understand why they couldn´t comprehend that he should be held to higher, not lower standards.
Interesting points by #7 and #8 that Gilibrand and perhaps other Dems may actually have a strategy here.
Bizarre, but they may claim to have found an equivalence between Bill Clinton´s actions and Donald Trump (actions?...crude language?)...so the Dems say we have denounced our former President, now we must denounce the current President and have him step down.
Gillibrand is getting ready for her run for President, she would sell out her own mother. Did you ever hear her potty mouth speeches? This is going to be another "I´m with her" candidate. This Dem is going to protect all the woman from men. Don´t they stand for anything normal?
There´s a big difference between, say, Clinton and Moore. Even Clinton and Al Franken. Both Moore and Franken DID something in the past... in Moore´s case LONG, LONG ago in the past before he got happily, and in chastity stayed, married 34 years ago where as Clinton was correctly cited as having been a hound and STILL being a hound as president of the U.S. Moore dated a couple young women? He also married one... and stayed married. While Bill´s wandering might be explained by a look at Hillary (and that marriage might be explained by sheer political calculation) What can´t be explained is the sheer hypocrisy of liking Bill in his extremity while picking at a, for 4 decades, Christian exemplar like Moore....
As Gillibrand´s behavior proves, liberals will support and reward any level of corruption, degeneracy, decadence and criminality as long as it promotes the cause of international totalitarian socialism. But now that the Arkansas Hillbilly Grifters are a liability to Gillibrand´s political career, she suddenly develops a conscience?
Gillibrand is your typical hack Dem here. She does what is expedient here. Not to long ago she frolicked with the Clintons at a Clinton fund raiser for her. Then the Clintons were her God and now she throws them under the bus?
Hypocrisy has always been a Democrat Quality and Gillibrand embraces it robustly here?
I think Trump has the opportunity to cash in a "make-up" penalty. Actually a make-up non-call. Clinton was not penalized for a blatant violation. So...to be even-handed, Trump gets a blanket no-flag. On whatever misdeeds imagined or real.
Meaningless statement on the part of Gillibrand. Typical Senator. Bill Clinton has been out of office for over 16 years. She´s only saying something now? Can´t wait to vote her out, but its New York, so the nation is stuck with her until she passes away of old age. Unless she runs for President. Blech! She cannot win, but she is stupid and greedy enough to think she can.
Agree this is the lead up to another Trump gotcha moment. These people are truly tiresome. In the end, there will be 100 women accusing Trump of harassment.
WASHINGTON - Congressional Republicans reached a deal on final tax legislation on Wednesday, clearing the way for final votes next week on a package that would slash the U.S. corporate tax rate to 21 percent and cut taxes for wealthy Americans. Under an agreement between the House of Representatives and the Senate, the corporate tax would be 1 percentage point higher than the 20 percent rate earlier proposed, but still far below the current headline rate of 35 percent, a deep tax reduction that corporations have sought for years. As they finalized the biggest tax overhaul in 30 years, Republicans wavered
Warnings of extreme fire danger have been extended to much of southern California and Yosemite National Park as winds pick up in the dry conditions. Firefighters made some progress on in corralling the so-called Thomas Fire, which has spread into national forest land north west of Los Angeles But Cal Fire has now issued a red flag warning that the fire would continue to spread west as it eats up parched brush. The warning area encompasses a wide stretch from Long Beach to Santa Barbara and then heads north toward Bakersfield and into the Sierra range to Yosemite. Cal Fire spokesperson Jordan Motta
Four Iraqi citizens have won High Court damages against the Ministry of Defence arising out of their ill-treatment and unlawful detention during the Iraq War. Damages were awarded to each of them today by a judge in London. Mr Justice Leggatt ruled that they were entitled to compensation under the Human Rights Act, with one of the men being awarded more than £30,000. Lawyers said after the ruling that the result of the four test cases could form the basis of settlement of more than 600 unresolved claims in what is known as the Iraqi Civilian Litigation. Claims were brought by Iraqi civilians alleging
ENERGY prices across Europe have soared after an explosion ripped through one of the continent’s biggest supply hubs. Pipeline deliveries across large parts of the continent have been thrown into chaos as a result of the deadly blast at the Baumgaerten site in eastern Austria. In Britain, Europe´s biggest gas market, the price of gas for immediate delivery soared by 35 per cent to 92p per therm, its highest level since 2013. The Italian wholesale day-ahead price surged nearly doubled to £41.44 per megawatt-hour, its highest ever recorded level. And Italy has declared a state of emergency as a result of the fuel
President Donald Trump said Monday a bomb blast in Manhattan highlights the need for an immigration overhaul - as the man arrested was revealed to be part of a large Bangladeshi family sponsored by his aunt or uncle. Trump said that the U.S. ´must fix its lax immigration system, which allows far too many dangerous, inadequately vetted people´ into the country. The Republican president pointed to his controversial travel ban as an example of the kind of policy that needs to be put in place. And he called on Congress to end ´chain migration,´ in which family members are permitted to join relatives
There are reports of a possible terror attack in New York City, after an explosion was felt Monday morning in a Subway station near Times Square. Commuters said they felt a blast in the Subway tunnels underneath the Port Authority Bus Terminal around 6:30am. The bus terminal is a major transit hub for people commuting into the city by bus from New Jersey, and is located just a block from Times Square. Police reportedly have one man in custody, who had an explosive device on him. The FDNY said they are investigating the possibility of it being a terror attack.
Washington — Nikki R. Haley, the American ambassador to the United Nations, said on Sunday that women who have accused President Trump of sexual misconduct “should be heard,” a break from the administration’s longstanding assertion that the allegations are false and that voters rightly dismissed them when they elected Mr. Trump. Ms. Haley, a former governor and one of the highest-ranking women in Mr. Trump’s administration, refocused attention on the allegations against the president by insisting that his accusers should be treated no differently than the scores of women who have come forward in recent weeks with

King David’s Psalm number two opens with the rhetorical question – “Why are the nations in an uproar?” Well now we know. The European nations (nearly all of them) that conspired with Germany to wipe out the Jews barely 75 years ago, cannot accept the fact that Israel Lives. That’s one. Two, that Israel lives with Jerusalem as its capital, as endorsed by the United States through President Trump – it’s driving them crazy. Delirium has set in from France, Germany (that’s nerve), Britain, Sweden and throughout the European Union. They can’t forgive Trump for being so heroic and they will never forget
SADIQ Khan has been slammed after hiring a group headed by a staunch Remainer to write reports about the potential impacts of leaving the EU. The London Mayor is believed to have splurged £42,270 on the reports about how Brexit could impact the capital´s economy. They will be produced by Cambridge Econometrics, which has already predicted economic doom when Britain leaves the EU. The group´s director, Richard Murphy, campaigned for a Remain vote last year and claimed Brexit would spark an recession. In a furious attack on the Mayor, Ukip London Assembly member Peter Whittle accused Mr Khan of failing
During a rally to promote Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, Donald Trump continued to attack the ´rigged´ and ´sick´ government institutions that he claims try to thwart his administration. At the Friday night event to promote the alleged sexual assaulter, he said: ´This is a rigged system. This is a sick system from the inside. ´And, you know, there is no country like our country but we have a lot of sickness in some of our institutions.´ He did not name FBI special counsel Robert Mueller by name in the speech, but has done battle with the bureau as it continues
A SYNAGOGUE was attacked by around 20 masked men while hosting a youth party in Gothenburg, Sweden, local media have reported. Police arrived at the scene, where Jewish students had taken refuge in the basement. A police spokesman said: "There are several molotov cocktails that have been thrown against the synagogue. "It´s about bottles and gasoline." A fire broke out between vehicles in the car park, fire fighter Kristoffer Wahter told local news. No injuries were caused and the building did not catch fire, Police inspector Peter Nordengard said. Initial local media reports suggest the group was around 20 men wearing masks carried out the
On Tuesday, Democrat Doug Jones pulled off a stunning victory over Republican Roy Moore in Alabama. The race went down to the wire, but the Democrat prevailed. Here are five things to know about why Jones won, why Moore lost, and what it means for the future of the U.S. Senate and both parties. 1. Character matters. According to NBC News exit polls, 49 percent of Alabama voters thought the sexual assault accusations against Roy Moore were "definitely" or "probably" true. Republicans and Democrats split on partisan lines — a whopping 82 percent of Republicans said the allegations were "probably" or "definitely" false,
DEVELOPING…Democrat Doug Jones has defeated Roy Moore in Alabama’s Senate election, according to a projection from the Fox News Decision Desk.ORIGINAL STORY…The hard-fought Alabama Senate race between Republican Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones remains too close to call, though a Fox News voter analysis shows the Democratic nominee enjoying a lead over his GOP rival. Jones’ competitiveness is a remarkable development in a deep red state that reflects just how badly Moore has been hurt by a sex scandal. But the race is still fluid. With 87 percent of precincts reporting, Jones and Moore both had 49.2 percent, according to
On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Mika Brzezinski argued President Trump’s tweet about Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) constitutes sexual harassment and that people who work around the president and don’t try to get him to delete the tweet don’t care about the country or women. Brzezinski said, “I just want to say something, beyond the fact that it is reprehensible that the president of the United States would say something so derogatory and disgusting about a woman, we’re not surprised, Mr. President. You do it all the time. You treat women terribly, and you treat the women around
Franken announced last Thursday that he would be resigning “in the coming weeks” after eight different women accused him of groping or forcibly kissing them. “The timing of Franken’s resignation remains unclear, as is his motive in delaying it,” New York Magazine’s Ed Kilgore noted at the time. Franken has yet to offer any more specificity about when he’s going to follow through in resigning. Franken’s office did not return multiple requests for comment on the subject. Franken begrudgingly offered his resignation after 35 Democratic senators called on him to do so, three weeks after he was first accused
President Trump attacked Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) in a sexually suggestive tweet Tuesday morning that implied Gillibrand would do just about anything for money, prompting a swift and immediate backlash. “Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Charles E. Schumer and someone who would come to my office ´begging´ for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump,” the president wrote. “Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!”
Margaret Thatcher was born one. So were predecessor Prime Ministers Benjamin Disraeli and William E. Gladstone. Diana, the princess of Wales, too. Also William Pitt, who presided over the British victory in the French and Indian War and lent his name to Pittsburgh. And, according to some university authorities four decades ago, me as well. We were all born commoners. But — despite what newspapers, websites and television stations on both sides of the Atlantic have reported with wonder and wild-eyed delight — Meghan Markle, the actor who is to marry Prince Harry, is not a commoner. She’s an American, and
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) faced criticism for saying that President Donald Trump “slut-shamed” Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) with a non-sexual insult, Tuesday. After President Donald Trump made a post on Twitter claiming that Sen. Gillibrand “would do anything” for campaign contributions, Sen. Warren made her own post accusing Trump of “slut-shaming.” “Are you really trying to bully, intimidate and slut-shame @SenGillibrand?” asked Sen. Warren in her post. “Do you know who you’re picking a fight with? Good luck with that, @realDonaldTrump. Nevertheless, #shepersisted.” Are you really trying to bully, intimidate and slut-shame @SenGillibrand? Do you know who you´re picking a fight with? Good
MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski is still fired up about President Trump’s tweet mocking Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and took her frustrations out on first lady Melania Trump and first daughter Ivanka Trump. “[Trump] should have apologized for being a sexist pig,” Brzezinski said. “And the women around him, his wife, who has a platform against cyber bullying, that’s a joke. That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.” Brzezinski then shifted her attention to Ivanka Trump, “Who came to Washington… to develop a platform for women,” but has stood by her father. “Go home. You’re doing nothing if you stand
Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee took to Twitter on Tuesday night to offer congratulations and her explanation, for why Doug Jones won the Alabama Senate election.Instead, she ended up extending congratulations to someone called “Doug Moore,” while referencing NFL anthem-kneelers: (Tweet) Doug Jones defeated Roy Moore in a shocking, upset victory on Tuesday night, becoming the first Democrat to represent Alabama in the Senate since 1996. Lee has embraced the anthem protest issue in the past, most notably by kneeling on the floor of the House of Representatives.“I kneel in honor of them.
Alabama is one of the most reliably Republican states in the country. The last time a Democrat was elected was in 1992, and no Democrat has won more than 40 percent of the vote in a Senate race there since 1996. The closest election in recent memory was in 2002, when Jeff Sessions won re-election by a razor-thin margin of 19 points. Sen. Richard Shelby has won his last three elections by 35 points, 30 points and 28 points, respectively. So it takes a special kind of stupid to pick a candidate who can lose to a Democrat in Alabama.
The Alabama Supreme Court has reportedly stayed a lower court’s order to election officials that would have required the preservation of voting records in Tuesday’s Senate special election. A circuit judge on Monday ordered election officials to set voting machines to save all digital ballot images, which would preserve voting records in the event of a recount. Alabama´s AL.com said Tuesday morning that the state´s Supreme Court had blocked the order.
From America’s Catholic bishops to prominent Christian pastor Jim Wallis, congressional Republicans’ push for an overhaul of the tax code has been called nothing less than ungodly. The debate about tax rates and income numbers has taken on pointedly religious overtones, with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, citing Pope Francis and St. Augustine in attacking the bill and saying it would signify Armageddon. Mr. Wallis led a protest against the tax plan at the Hart Senate Office Building, reading Bible verses before he was escorted away by Capitol Police. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops released a lengthy
