What Can Saudi Arabia
Really Do About Hezbollah?

Bloomberg Politics, by Donna Abu-Nasr

Original Article

Saudi Arabia has embarked on another foreign policy adventure by intervening in Lebanon´s delicate sectarian power balance to undermine Iranian-backed Hezbollah. Yet even working with the U.S. and Israel in trying to isolate the group, the Saudis could end up being little more than a minor inconvenience for militants whose tentacles have stretched from their southern Lebanon heartlands in recent years. Hezbollah is a regional force, with combatants in Yemen, Iraq and helping President Bashar al-Assad prevail in Syria. Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri appeared to be targeting Hezbollah and its Iranian allies when he

It´s good to know now, and prepare ourselves for a flash war in the Middle East brought on by Iran trying to become the regional power, with the aid of Russia in the Middle East. It´s going to happen as they expand their nuke and missile programs.

A former ethics director has filed a complaint against Kellyanne Conway for comments she made about the Alabama Senate race. “I have filed a complaint with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, which investigates Hatch Act violations,” Walter Shaubtweeted. Mr. Shaub is the former director of the Office of Government Ethics. His complaint centers around Mrs. Conway’s comments earlier this week blasting Democratic candidate Doug Jones. Mrs. Conway did not advocate on behalf of Republican candidate Roy Moore, but said that Mr. Jones’ was a “doctrinaire liberal.” “Doug Jones in Alabama, folks, don’t be fooled.

Draft Bernie is no more. The liberal activists who’d hoped to recruit Sen. Bernard Sanders to lead a new third party appear to have given up on the senator, dropping his name from their movement as they search for a new champion to pave an independent path in the next presidential election. Comprised of former Sanders staffers and volunteers, the group says the invite to Mr. Sanders still stands, but it’s changing its name from “Draft Bernie for a People’s Party” to “Movement for a People’s Party.” “We are motivated to continue whether Bernie is prepared to join us yet or not by the fact that a new party is inevitable in the United States,”

Argentine submarine latest: Hope for

The search for a missing Argentine submarine with a crew of 44 has entered a “critical phase”, authorities have said, as the seven-day oxygen supply was due to run out today. The ARA San Juan went missing on 15 November while it was travelling from the extreme southern port of Ushuaia to the city of Mar del Plata, about 250 miles southeast of Buenos Aires. The last known communications with the submarine were two calls - one to report a routine battery fault, while the other call has not been disclosed by the Argentine Navy. Second U.S. judge halts Trump´

Baltimore - Another federal judge has halted a proposed transgender military ban, expanding on an initial ruling issued last month against the plan by President Donald Trump´s administration. In a preliminary injunction issued Tuesday in Baltimore, U.S. District Judge Marvin Garbis ruled that transgender service members have "demonstrated that they are already suffering harmful consequences" due to the proposed ban including threat of discharge, stigma and the cancellation or delay of surgeries related to their gender transitions. The six plaintiffs in the lawsuit he reviewed have all been receiving hormone therapy.

Donald Trump has sustained more than his fair share of political losses during the first 10 months of his presidency, mostly at the hands of the federal courts. (Snip) But the makeup of America’s judges is quietly becoming the site of one of Trump’s most unequivocal successes: nominating and installing judges who reflect his own worldview at a speed and volume unseen in recent memory. Trump could conceivably have handpicked more than 30% of the nation’s federal judges before the end of his first term, his advisers have suggested, and independent observers agree. “The president himself has said that he expects this to be one of

Senate Republicans included $1.6 billion for the first installment of President Trump’s border wall in the new homeland security spending bill they released Tuesday, keeping the president’s marquee immigration promise on track. While avoiding the term “wall,” the Senate bill calls for $1.6 billion in funding for “physical barriers” and border roads — matching Mr. Trump’s original request for money to build or repair fencing along 74 more miles of the U.S.-Mexico line. The homeland security measure is one of a series of spending bills the GOP released Tuesday as they geared up for an end-of-year battle over 2018

A federal judge on Monday permanently blocked President Trump’s executive order to cut funding from so called “sanctuary cities.” Trump’s order would have removed some federal funds from cities that limit their cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities. U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick rejected the Trump administration’s argument that the measure only applies to a relatively small pool of money. Orrick also said that Trump cannot set fresh conditions on spending that Congress has previously approved. Monday’s ruling came in lawsuits brought by two California counties, Santa Clara and San Francisco.

It was generally panned when it came out a couple of months ago for blaming everyone but herself for her defeat. I have never been a Clinton-basher, and I was astonished by the venom, untruthfulness, and zealotry of her account. Mrs. Clinton writes persuasively of seeking “grace” after her defeat, and concluded most of her speeches throughout the 2016 campaign calling for “love and kindness,” yet she is unrelievedly ungracious.
