Trump picks immigration hardliner
Tom Homan as ICE director

Dallas Morning News [TX], by Todd J. Gillman

Original Article

Posted By:Lucky5, 11/14/2017 5:46:07 PM

President Trump on Tuesday named immigration hardliner Tom Homan, who has served nearly 10 months as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to run ICE on a permanent basis. Homan has run the agency since Obama appointee Sarah Saldaña — the former U.S. attorney in Dallas — stepped down when Trump took office in January. He has been a public face of the administration´s crackdowns on immigrants and border security, a tough talking law enforcement careerist who is unapologetic about being "heartless" when it comes to deporting even the most sympathetic longtime U.S. residents.

Comments:
The press is too invested in bringing down Moore right now to have a tantrum about this appointment. He looks like the right person for the job.

Donald Trump continues to baffle. Never Trump Republicans still struggle to square the circle of quietly agreeing so far with most of his policies, as they loudly insist that his record is already nullified by its supposedly odious author. Or surely it soon will be discredited by the next Trumpian outrage. Or his successes belong to congressional and Cabinet members, while his failures are all his own. Rarely do they seriously reflect on what otherwise over the last year might have been the trajectory of a Clinton administration. Contrary to popular supposition, the Left loathes Trump not just for what

After fleeing to Montreal from Long Island, Marlise Beauville felt, she said, as if she had reached the Promised Land. She entered the country last summer without immigration papers, yet received a work permit, a monthly stipend of 600 Canadian dollars, or $480, free health care and free French lessons. The weather has become bone-cold chilly but her Canadian neighbors are warm. Though it is not clear that she will be able to stay, she is hunkering down, adamant that limbo in Canada is better than returning to Haiti, where she fears that the family of her dead husband will kill her.

So the president is having a meeting on the DACA kids, the DREAMer kids, and a meeting overall about immigration — and in this meeting, he’s invited the Democrat leadership to come in there. Senator Durbin is up there and any number of other Democrat leaders. The press has been brought into the room where the meeting’s taking place, and Trump is talking to the press about the issues. Steny Hoyer is seated to Trump’s left, and Trump is conducting the meeting in front of the press, and he asked Dick Durbin (the senator from Illinois) and the Democrats, “Tell

Steve Bannon, the former Donald Trump campaign CEO who spent six months working in the White House and returned to his old life at the helm of Breitbart News in August, is stepping down from his position as the conservative website´s executive chairman. The New York Times reported Tuesday on the departure of the outspoken ideologue whom Trump re-branded as ´Sloppy Steve´ following the publication of a loosely reported tell-all book last week. A source close to Bannon confirmed that his departure was the product of a revolt on the publication´s board of directors, led by longtime financier and donor Rebekah Mercer.

In fact, we aren’t hearing anything about collusion anymore, except from Adam Schiff whenever he gets off the phone with Tater Stelter at CNN long enough to essentially insist that the collusion is all so very, very obvious, and that evidence is just a bourgeois conceit,

Senate Republicans have dropped a plan to create a so-called trigger for tax hikes meant to satisfy deficit hawks, leaving the GOP scrambling to change its plan and win over enough votes to pass their massive tax code overhaul. Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) said the proposal — a trigger to raise tax rates if sufficient economic growth did not materialize — would not pass muster procedurally and would need to find something else to satisfy the bloc of deficit hawk holdouts, led by Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.). “It doesn’t look like the trigger is going to work, according to the

The most remarkable thing about the current tide of sexual assault and harassment accusations is not their number. If every woman in America started talking about the things that happen during the course of an ordinary female life, it would never end. Nor is it the power of the men involved; history instructs us that for countless men, the ability to possess women sexually is not a spoil of power; it’s the point of power. What’s remarkable is that these women are being believed. Most of them don’t have police reports or witnesses or physical evidence; many of them are recounting

The other profile is reality: In the backroom, where the employees eat lunch, the Democrats and their fat-cat donors are committing unspeakably sleazy and immoral acts. Three-quarters of the members of a federally chartered board advising the National Park Service abruptly quit Monday night out of frustration that Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke had refused to meet with them or convene a single meeting last year. The resignation of nine out of 12 National Park System Advisory Board members leaves the federal government without a functioning body to designate national historic or natural landmarks. It also underscores the extent to which federal advisory bodies have become marginalized under the Trump administration. In May 2017, Zinke suspended all outside committees while his staff reviewed their composition and work. In a
