Foggy Bottom breakdown

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson´s draining of the State Department -- aka Foggy Bottom -- just kicked into high gear. The government will offer 641 workers up to $25,000 each just to leave. Overall he wants to pare the payroll by 1,982 people, or 8% of the workforce, according to United Press International. All the right people are complaining: Richard Haass, president of the Council on Foreign Relations, said the staff and spending cuts were "misguided given [the] need for diplomacy and Trump administration´s acute lack of experience.”(Snip) Lack of experience? Tillerson has cut oil deals all over the world.

8%? Chicken feed. How about 50%. When each employee of this bloated Federal apparatus represents millions in giveaways to beggars all over this earth we as a country can no longer afford even 10% remaining.

Apply this to any number of other federal departments and maybe we can begin to see some results.

My off-the-cuff estimate has always been that 20% of the federal government could be eliminated without any impact on effectiveness, especially if you could get the remaining people to actually work for a living.

A Fox News Poll of 649 likely voters in Alabama released on Thursday and conducted between Monday and Wednesday of this week shows Democratic candidate Doug Jones with an eight point lead over Republican candidate Judge Roy Moore in the December 12 special election for the Alabama U.S. Senate seat once held by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, 50 percent to 42 percent, with a 3.5 percent margin of error. That poll stands in striking contrast to a Fox10/Strategy Research poll of 3,000 likely voters in Alabama released on Wednesday and conducted on Monday of this week that shows Moore with

Thursday on MSNBC’s “MTP Daily,” celebrity attorney Gloria Allred, who is representing Roy Moore accuser Beverly Young Nelson, said she had not asked her client if she saw Moore sign her yearbook. Questions had been raised by the Moore campaign a day earlier at a press conference in Birmingham, AL about the authenticity of the signature, which Allred had held up as evidence to bolster Young’s claim against Moore. Partial transcript as follows: TUR: Does your client, Beverly Young Nelson, remember him signing it? ALLRED: She remembers — well, she remembers being with him. It was on the counter. She

OTTAWA - Canada will redouble its lobbying efforts in Congress to block any Trump administration move to pull the United States out of NAFTA, sources familiar with government strategy said, as talks to modernize the treaty run into trouble.Canadian officials, preparing for a fifth round of negotiations to update the 1994 North American Free Trade Treaty, are increasingly concerned that U.S. President Donald Trump may make good on a promise to pull out of the pact. The talks, resuming in Mexico City on Wednesday, stem from Trump’s insistence that the treaty - which he views as detrimental to U.S. workers

The last thing the world needs is another opinion on the Roy Moore scandal, so I will spare you my revelatory and game-changing lowdown on the whole thing. I will, however, say this: If you think this is bad, just wait until 2018. By this time next year, the Moore story will seem like one of those weightless, superfluous amuse-bouche concoctions the server gives you courtesy of the kitchen, which always turns out to be more of a vanity project of the chef than anything intended to satiate you. Yet it arouses your appetite, and after you’ve gorged yourself on

Presidents Bush 41 and 43, Clinton, and Obama were clever. They created a backlog of immigration deportation cases by not appointing enough judges to hear the cases. More than 600,000 illegal aliens are enjoying a de facto two-year visa as it now takes 672 days on average to deport them. President Trump is ending the free ride. From LifeZette: The United States is on the verge of reversing an immigration court backlog that has been building for years, Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified Tuesday. I must have missed the Drudge Report links to this story, but General Mattis last week told NATO, “95% of the territory once held by ISIS is now liberated and our partners continue to secure more each day.” The group that Obama once smugly dismissed as the JV squad (after he personally killed Osama bin Laden) finally is contained after three years of ravaging Syria, Iraq, and other parts of the Middle East. My Internet skills must have deteriorated after 25 years online, because the only references I could find to this remarkable achievement were at military specialty sites. Last

Multinational corporations and foreign governments spend hundreds of millions in Washington DC lobbying House and Senate politicians to retain trade positions. It’s generally a legal bribery business where congressional representatives get rich by selling their votes to corporations and foreign governments. Most of you already know the game: It’s a big club, and we -the working class- ain’t in it. Fortunately for us, President Trump won the election without funding from the big corporations and lobbyists within the U.S. political system. As such they cannot influence Trump’s decisions on economic policy matters and trade; and President Trump rarely invites them

I am told that on that this day in 1933, Franklin Delano Roosevelt opened diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union. Despite Walter Duranty’s protestations to the contrary in The New York Times, that was while Stalin was systematically starving millions—yes, millions—of his own people. He went so far as to seal the windows of trains running through the areas he wished to devastate so that passengers could not throw out food to the starving multitudes. FDR knew this. So: was his diplomatic action a good thing or a bad thing? On this day in 1985, Ronald Reagan travelled to Geneva to

Leeann Tweeden, now a local radio news anchor in Los Angeles, has authored an article accusing Senator Al Franken of non-consensual sexual contact in 2006, during a USO tour in the Middle East. This contrasts with the accusations against candidate Roy Moore, which involve alleged conduct several decades ago. Since there have been calls to “expel” Moore should he win, will there be calls to expel Franken for conduct which took place not long before his election to the Senate

The allegations by five women that Roy Moore pursued and sexually molested teenage girls while he was in his 30s are disgusting, and disqualify him to serve in the United States Senate. Conservatives should be outraged at Moore for his loathsome conduct.
