Astros’ Yuli Gurriel Apologizes
After a Racist Gesture
Aimed at Yu Darvish

New York Times, by David Waldstein

HOUSTON — The satisfaction the Houston Astros took in winning Game 3 of the World Series on Friday night had to compete with the fact that their first baseman, Yuli Gurriel, was caught on camera making a racist gesture in reference to Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yu Darvish, who is from Japan. Gurriel, who is from Cuba, had just homered off Darvish in the bottom of the second inning to give Houston a 1-0 lead over the Dodgers. As he sat in the dugout, he could be seen smiling and then raising his hands as if to stretch the side

Comments:
Joe Buck´s pet "33-year-old rookie from Cuba".

Joe Buck is simply awful. Why is the listening public forced each playoff season to have to swallow his tripe?

For anyone assuming Gurriel will face punishment for this remember this point: The only racists alive today are whites, and the only dead racists are whites. Anyone who is not white, even white hispanics, cannot be racists. Gurriel will get a extra credit from the left if he smiles when he speaks about Fidel.

#1 I agree the guy grew up and spent most of his adult life to date in Cuba. Political correctness doesn´t exist there neither does freedom. There also exists massive racism in Cuba against Afro-Cuban and mixed races which he has known and been exposed to all his life. This is his first year playing MLB and he is not attuned to the msm political correctness warriors. He has apologized and learned a valuable lesson. My guess is that he didn´t even know what he did was considered politically incorrect. I´ll give him the benefit of the doubt considering where he came from.

It´s a bad sign that this is considered a news story at all. Four principles:

1. Freedom of speech means exactly that.
2. Encountering speech you disagree with is an opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to the principle listed above.
3. Attempting to delimit the speech of others or, worse, punish those you disagree with is a profoundly un-American act.
4. Grown-ups understand the difference between sticks and stones and insults; children demand apologies and organize codes of conduct and mob action to thought police the freedom of others.

In the old days, the Japanese pitcher would have replied, "Who cares? He´s just a stupid Mexican," and the rest of the grown-ups would have laughed and moved on. Or he and Yuli would have had a little "talk" out behind the clubhouse after the game and sorted things out between themselves.

Instead, Yuli is a moron and Darvish is a child, and I get a sensitivity lecture instead of what used be news.

I miss the grown-ups.

Yup #1, cut him some slacks and lighten up.
That´s exactly what we did to the illegal aliens and many legal immigrants, but look where it got us? Their failure to ASSIMILATE!
If this guy violated MBL rules, then punish him accordingly. I´m sure even in CUBA, there´s such a thing as unsportsmanship like conduct. But for him to demean a Japanese race the way he did, pretty much reflects his inner character and the value he holds against other ethnic race. Insult the Japanese when Japan was his ticket to FREEDOM from Cuba. Will he insult America next? Maybe. Cut him some slacks? Sure! We´re a compassionate people.

Time was there were baseball players known as "bench jockeys" who would heckle the opposing players unmercifully from the dugout. And there were no taboo subjects. Your race and ethnicity. Your wife and kids. The size of your manhood. All was fair game. The intent being to get inside the opposing players´ heads and get them off their game.

Same thing used to be the norm in the NFL where opposing linemen would trash talk their opposite numbers throughout the game. And then there was all the dirty crap at the bottom of the dogpiles. Gouging; rabbit punches; hair pulling; you name it.

The modern sports establishment is composed of a bunch of wusses.

The U.S. Army has stopped enlisting some immigrants who are legal permanent residents while mandating lengthy delays for others, part of a controversial effort across the military to tighten security in the ranks by subjecting foreign-born recruits to tougher background checks. Implemented late last week, the new policy halts indefinitely all enlistments involving green-card holders seeking to join the Army Reserve and National Guard, which is a part-time military service commitment. Green-card holders seeking to become full-time soldiers remain eligible to enlist in the active-duty Army, but they are no longer allowed to start basic training before their background checks

A federal judge on Monday permanently blocked President Trump’s executive order to cut funding from so called “sanctuary cities.” Trump’s order would have removed some federal funds from cities that limit their cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities. U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick rejected the Trump administration’s argument that the measure only applies to a relatively small pool of money. Orrick also said that Trump cannot set fresh conditions on spending that Congress has previously approved. Monday’s ruling came in lawsuits brought by two California counties, Santa Clara and San Francisco.
