Macron the Meta?
Power Line, by Steven Hayward

Original Article

Posted By:ScarletPimpernel, 10/14/2017 4:14:55 AM

I’ve been highly suspicious of Emmanuel Macron, France’s youngish, posterboy president. First of all, he’s French. Second, his “beyondist” positioning between or above the existing French parties—rotten as they are—seems dubious. And while not abandoning these or other suspicions, his interview published today in the German magazine Der Spiegel makes for some very interesting reading. One comment in particular jumps out: I am a strong believer that modern political life must rediscover a sense for symbolism. We need to develop a kind of political heroism. I don’t mean that I want to play the hero. But we need to be amenable

Comments:
Well, now. We didn´t see that coming, did we? As someone commented after the article, "I can hardly believe what I am reading." I only hope that Macron´s walk will match his talk.

Thanks, OP. I´ve bookmarked the Spiegel interview for later reading. It seems like Macron might turn out to be the "Gallic intellectual´s Trump", sort of. I do kind of like the guy, based on his invitation to the Trumps to visit for Bastille Day, and the understated warmth and courtesy that he showed them. It´s always a pleasure to encounter someone out-of-type, that is, out of stereotype.

Former US president Barack Obama chose not to support the 2009 Iranian Green Protest Movement because he hoped to reach a deal with Iran on its nuclear weapons that he signed six years later, Deputy Minister Michael Oren (Kulanu) said on Monday. Obama’s failure to help Iranian protesters has been criticized since then by Israeli officials, led by Jewish Agency chairman and former Soviet dissident Natan Sharansky, who has called it the biggest failure to help human rights in modern history. Oren, who was the ambassador to the US at the time, said Obama initially claimed he would not support

On the fourth day of the nationwide uprising of the Iranian people, regime officials are acknowledging popular anger against and abhorrence of the regime and the uprising spreading across the country. The people are seeking regime change in Iran, and this has a major impact for the U.S.´s and the international community´s foreign policy in the Middle East and possibly beyond. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which is a major force behind the protests, released a statement in which she said, in part, "The ongoing protests in different cities against the regime

A huge explosion has rocked a busy supermarket in St Petersburg, leaving at least 10 people injured. The blast happened in the Perekrestok supermarket in the northeast of the cities, and shoppers fled in panic as emergency crews descended on the scene. One person is believed to be in a serious condition, while a further three were taken to hospital. Six more were treated at the scene. It is thought a bomb packed with shrapnel exploded in a storage locker, and authorities are treating the explosion as a deliberate attempt to kill. It comes days after a foiled terror plot

The Clintons and their associates, whether it´s Sandy Berger or Cheryl Mills, certainly have a gift for making paperwork disappear. Sandy Berger, Bill Clinton’s former National Security Adviser, stole classified documents about the terror failures of the Clinton administration, hid documents under a construction trailer, lied about taking them and destroyed some of them. Hillary Clinton confidants were part of an operation to “separate” damaging documents before they were turned over to the Accountability Review Board investigating security lapses surrounding the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya. Few societies have gone through as wrenching changes in behavior and social norms in the past forty years as America has. We can scarcely recognize the social mores and attitudes then from today’s perspective. But as L.P. Hartley put it: “The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there.” And if the changes over time are confusing enough, try understanding the regional variations. Moore was from Etowah County in northeast Alabama, on the southwestern edge of Appalachia. His lower class family lived way out of town and finally got indoor plumbing his last year of high school. Let´s begin with some accusations. They are well founded and as credible as any against Roy Moore – perhaps more so. The FBI´s first director, J. Edgar Hoover, was reputed to have compiled incriminating dossiers on just about every top office-holder in Washington, D.C., up to and including the presidents, under several of whose tenures Hoover served. Whenever there was talk of firing him, Hoover reportedly met with the contemporary chief of state and persuaded him to retain him (Hoover) in his post. Regarding President Kennedy, there was surely a great deal in the dossier, especially as concerned his scandalous

Huma Abedin forwarded sensitive State Department emails, including passwords to government systems, to her personal Yahoo email account before every single Yahoo account was hacked, a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis of emails released as part of a lawsuit brought by Judicial Watch shows. Abedin, the top aide to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, used her insecure personal email provider to conduct sensitive work. This guarantees that an account with high-level correspondence in Clinton’s State Department was impacted by one or more of a series of breaches — at least one of which was perpetrated by a “state-sponsored actor.” The U.S.

On the afternoon of November 8, 2016, Kellyanne Conway settled into her glass office at Trump Tower. Right up until the last weeks of the race, the campaign headquarters had remained a listless place. All that seemed to distinguish it from a corporate back office were a few posters with right-wing slogans. Conway, the campaign’s manager, was in a remarkably buoyant mood, considering she was about to experience a resounding, if not cataclysmic, defeat. Donald Trump would lose the election — of this she was sure — but he would quite possibly hold the defeat to under six points. That
