The United States and the world appear to be reliving the language, politics, and global instability of 1968. Almost a half-century ago, in 1968, the United States seemed to be falling apart. The Vietnam War, a bitter and close presidential election, antiwar protests, racial riots, political assassinations, terrorism, and a recession looming on the horizon left the country divided between a loud radical minority and a silent conservative majority. The United States avoided a civil war. But America suffered a collective psychological depression, civil unrest, defeat in Vietnam, and assorted disasters for the next decade — until the election of
Yes Victor! Just what I have been thinking too-this is 1968 revisited. The liberal left loved that year, but it was hell. The culture went crazy and way liberal in one year. In one year the country turned against the Government and the war in Vietnam, and therefore the solders, most who had no choice. In one year the music went from love tunes to hard rock and protest. In one year movies went from sex happening off stage to right in your face. In one year you went from story´s about love and getting married to women just being something to sleep with. And don´t get me started on those stupid min-skirts. I spent 5 years never bending over to pick anything up or worrying about the wind! And free love-bull-never works-always destroys the family and women. Somethings righted itself by the 80´s but much, much was lost.
Yes, it is 1968 all over again. A key similarity is that the msm forced/ is forcing its progressive meme on the citizens to try to get us to submit and give up our liberties. A key difference however, is that both political parties were somewhat functional in 1968 and their policies hadn´t had time to fully fail yet whereas today, both parties and their policies have failed and there is nothing left to bring the country forward.
For years I´ve been saying that between 1968 and 1972 the democrat party was taken over by people (marxists) who hate this country and the freedoms she stands for. To destroy it, they had to destroy the family and our culture. They have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. First legalizing the killing of babies, then promoting homosexuality as normal, Even ten years ago, who would have believed that men would be given the right to use women´s restrooms and dressing rooms? That sex is ´fluid´? That one day one could say they were a woman and the next say they were a man. That someone could be jailed for using the wrong pronoun to a ´gender fluid´ IT but not for deliberating giving someone AIDS?
I´m not so sure about that. Yes, we´re still involved in Afghanistan (in smaller numbers than the 500,000+ troops we had in Vietnam in 1968, a much more divisive involvement), but no religious or political figures of the stature of MLK Jr or Bobby Kennedy have been assassinated, major cities haven´t been put on curfew or aren´t burning because of riots (only portions of Progressive-led cities by a relatively small number of Antifa malcontents - things are relatively calm and quiet in Republican-controlled cities or states), the Nat´l Guard isn´t out (yet) patrolling or shooting protesting university students.
I think the political, cultural and social atmosphere is better than it was in 1968 (I was 12 then.)
The media only want us to believe it´s that bad now. We´re not as innocent as we were - we only had three major TV networks lying to us - and we lacked the ability to instantaneously find out for ourselves if they, politicians and the military were misleading us. With New Media such as the Internet, Twitter, Instagram we are better informed and prepared to confront the lies.
BOTH political parties are unraveling (the GOP much slower) but DemoRATS are faring much worse. The GOP controls 33 states to the DemoRATS 5 or 6.
The end result for DemoRATS will be uglier. They know they´re bleeding their traditional special interest constituencies (as well as losing political power) and that´s why they´re angry and causing mayhem and confusion. They believe the solution is to continue turning Hard Left Socialist and they´re being enabled and assisted by the media and Hollywood.
FTA: The smears “racist,” “fascist,” “white privilege,” and “Nazi” — like “Commie” of the 1950s — are so overused as to become meaningless. There is now less free speech on campus than during the McCarthy era of the early 1950s.
As a retired Marine I have a had a tough month after watching the Ken Burns Vietnam series which glorified the Anti war movement and the damage it and JFK/LBJ did to this country. 1968 is indeed a year that help destroy this country.
Yes 1968 was tumultuous. From the USS Pueblo seizure to the all the events in the interim prior to the election of Nixon. But 1969 was fairly momentous as well. The Manson Family. The Moon Landing. The Joe Namath Jets and the Miracle Mets. Woodstock and Altamont. Cappaquiddick. The first draft lottery. The Days of Rage. Hurricane Camille.
In my humble opinion, and no disrespect to Dr. Hanson, the events of the last couple of years pale in contrast but seem more consequential because the media megaphone is so much louder and pervasive than at the end of the 60s.
President Donald Trump blew into Greenville with all of the grandeur befitting a president Monday for a two-and-a-half hour whirlwind visit with his friend and early campaign supporter, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, who Trump endorsed at a private fundraiser. Interstates and airways were closed during rush hour as Air Force One landed at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport at 5:21 p.m. Three hours later, it lifted off again, headed back to Joint Base Andrews near Washington, D.C. In between, Trump stopped to greet about 100 pre-screened supporters who gathered near the tarmac at GSP, then was whisked away by motorcade to
Democrats are attacking President Trump for “dismantling” President Obama’s legacy on everything from Obamacare subsidies to immigration amnesty, but nobody knew better than Mr. Obama how vulnerable his go-it-alone agenda would be if Mr. Trump won the election. Unable to work with a Republican-led Congress for most of his presidency, Mr. Obama did what he could with his presidential “pen and phone,” issuing executive orders, rules and regulations that in many cases could be overturned by another stroke of the pen — this time by a Republican president. Long before Mr. Obama left office, Republicans were accusing him of overreaching
The Gateway Pundit previously asked if Fox News host Sean Hannity and WikiLeaks boss Julian Assange were up to something. On October 8th, Hannity tweeted his famous “Tick Tock,” warning — but this time — with a twist, including a 7 day countdown. One week later, Assange followed up with his own cryptic tweet. (Photos) “T Minus 7 and counting. Tick Tock….,” tweeted Hannity. Sunday, Assange tweeted a series of numbers that resemble an encryption key. “4767 5774 6a7a 4d6c 6330 666b 314a 3453 0000 0907 84b4 f787 7616 86f7 a737 5707 5736,” tweeted Assange. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) blasted “half-baked, spurious nationalism” in the United States in an emotional speech Monday night after receiving the National Constitution Center’s Liberty Medal. “To fear the world we have organized and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain ´the last best hope of earth´ for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of
You might not know it from the lack of mainstream media coverage, but longtime Democratic Congressman Bob Menendez is still on trial in New Jersey on charges that he engaged in a pay-to-play scheme with one of his top donors. Last week, federal prosecutors rested their case against Meneendez, after presenting weeks of evidence connecting the Democratic lawmaker to a Fort Lauderdale doctor named Salomon Melgen. According to the government´s attorneys, Menendez communicated frequently with Melgen, using his influence with the State Department and Medicare fraud investigators, to do a variety of favors for Melgen. Menendez is alleged to have
The number of foreign workers getting work permits for U.S. jobs will hit 2 million this year, partly because President Donald Trump’s deputies have reduced only a few of President Barack Obama’s foreign-worker programs and policies. Roughly 2 million foreigners will get temporary work permits, dubbed “Employment Authorization Documents,” or EADS, during 2017, despite administration efforts to cut back some of the many business-backed foreign-worker programs, according to two sets of data released by the Department of Homeland Security. “This is almost entirely outside of our legal immigration and legal guest-worker system — these are additional workers,” said Jessica Vaughan,
A British school has changed its policies to allow biological boys to sleep in the girls’ dorms, wear skirts, and use gender neutral pronouns and girl names. The new policies at Gordon’s School in Woking, England, lets both boys and girls use whichever bathrooms the individual feels comfortable using and dress however they see fit, according to the Times on Sunday. The school policy allows boys to wear jewelry, makeup, and sport long hair. “Parents of pupils were surprised by how open-minded we have been. Most schools are having these issues,” said Rob Pavis, the deputy head of the school. Students
Gee, any guesses why CBS’ third-quarter advertising declined? If you said NFL football tanking with the public, you get the blue ribbon. According to Credit Suisse, the network’s declining NFL television ratings will send CBS earnings lower. Credit Suisse analyst Omar Sheikh stated: We expect third-quarter network advertising to decline 3 percent (previously +1 percent), driven by soft ratings for both the summer schedule and for the start of the NFL season. With only one of the three content licensing deals we expected for the second half announced in third quarter, we also expect content licensing revenue growth to be
The Producers Guild of America on Monday moved to expel Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein from its ranks after dozens of women accused him of sexual harassment and abuse dating back nearly three decades. The group´s board voted unanimously at a meeting to "institute termination proceedings" against Weinstein, which will give him an opportunity to respond before the guild makes its official decision on Nov. 6, according to CNN. The PGA´s action follows a similar vote by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences board on Saturday, and the suspension of Weinstein´s membership in its British academy counterpart, or BAFTA.
Earlier today President Trump surprised the media with a joint Rose Garden press conference with President Trump and Senate Leader Mitch McConnell. The combative media were in full frenzied form as they peppered their Presidential Nemesis with argumentative questions for 40 minutes. As customary, President Trump effortlessly swatted away the media scuds while making his podium guest, McConnell, transparently nervous and riddled with anxiety. Amid the glorious sunlight – the turtle head couldn’t retract into his defensive shell. In essence it was, yet again, a MAGAnificent presser: (Video/Photo) Rose Garden – 1:47 P.M. Alleging U.S. “rape culture” caused the Hollywood sex abuse scandal, UK news site the Independent has claimed that only Islam can provide the answer to preventing violence against women. “Harvey Weinstein is just another case of a powerful man abusing women because we live in a society that lets him get away with it, but we can change that,” writes U.S-based civil rights lawyer Qasim Rashid in a piece for the former newspaper, now a website, the independence of which has been called into question after a key stake was bought by Saudi investor Sultan Muhammad Abuljadayel. Describing anyone who
Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D., Ill.) said in a radio interview on Sunday that Democrats can lose to President Donald Trump in 2020 if they "overdo it" by becoming too liberal. Durbin was asked on a local Chicago radio program about comments from Rep. Cheri Bustos (D., Ill.), who warned fellow Democrats that Trump would be reelected if the party becomes too liberal. CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski was first to report on Durbin´s comments. (Audio) "We need to be balanced," Durbin said on "Connected to Chicago" on WLS-AM. "She´s right about that. And as downstater like her, I understand
Hillary Clinton was forced to make a series of embarrassing media cancellations today after falling and hurting her foot, MailOnline can reveal. The former First Lady failed to show up at BBC Woman’s Hour, ITV´s This Morning show and at the London Studios to record an interview with the BBC´s Graham Norton Show. Sources said her fall had followed her appearance at the South Bank Centre last night and the twice-defeated Presidential candidate had been exhausted after a lengthy book promotion tour. This Morning presenter Philip Schofield said on Snapchat: ´Supposed to be interviewing Hillary Clinton... but she´s fallen over
Ohio Gov. John Kasich refused to rule out a run for president in 2020 as a Republican primary challenger to President Trump. When asked by Chuck Todd — host of NBC´s "Meet The Press" — if he was going to run in 2020 against Trump, Kasich demurred. "I don´t know what I´m going to do tomorrow," he said. "I will tell you this — the other day, my wife said to me one morning, ´You know, John, I wish you were the president.´ That´s how I knew the country was in trouble." Kasich said earlier in the interview he´s concerned
Hillary Clinton slammed what she called "endemic" sexism and misogyny in America during an interview with Fareed Zakaria, which aired Sunday. Clinton, who was interviewed by Zakaria on his show, "GPS," said sexism was so inherent that she purposely hadn´t highlighted her career history of fighting for women´s rights when she ran for president in 2016. However, she admitted that with the benefit of hindsight, she "could have tried harder" to do so. "I´m a middle-class girl from the middle of the country, and so I always struggled with like, OK, so what´s my story. And it suddenly dawned on me that
New York activist Tamika Mallory says she was booted from an American Airlines flight in Miami after a pilot inserted himself into a dispute over her seat assignment. Mallory, a co-chair of the Women’s March on Washington, was traveling home to New York when the pilot followed her to scold her over an argument she had with a gate agent. He then had her summoned from her seat and kicked off the flight, she told the Daily News. “It definitely was white male aggression. I was singled out, I was disrespected, and he was trying to intimidate me. I was
Hillary Clinton on Sunday defended NFL players who knelt during the national anthem, saying kneeling is a “reverent” position that is not against “our anthem or our flag.” The former Democratic presidential candidate, who was at the Southbank Centre´s London Literature Festival, urged Democrats to use the issue against President Trump. Clinton was embarking on a foreign trip to promote her book “What Happened.” She said people should resist “what are very clear dog-whistles” to the Trump base, pointing to the example of kneeling NFL players. “That´s what black athletes kneeling was all about,” she said in response to a question about ways to
If the NFL thought Americans would ease the backlash against the league — they were sadly mistaken. Photos of empty stadiums from around the league show how dire a situation kneelers have spurred. (Photo) Breitbart News reports: Note, that the Jets played New England on Sunday, meaning there should have been a big crowd for that game. The Texans, Atlanta, and Baltimore are also very relevant teams with relatively loyal fan bases. Yet, thousands upon thousands of fans no-showed or didn’t buy tickets for those games. Jimmy Kimmel says he’s laid off the Harvey Weinstein jokes because he’s not the “moral conscience of America” (there’s also a video of him asking young women to guess what’s in his crotch. And suggesting they feel it and put their mouths on it).Famously, NBC is playing shy about the scandal, having refused to broadcast the detailed exposé by Ronan Farrow, who took it to the New Yorker which did publish it. The story has laid bare the hypocrisy of the media giants, Democratic biggies, and the Hollywood virtue signalers.
A worker at a Texas fast-food restaurant was fired after she refused to serve two police officers, the company said Saturday. In a lengthy post on the Denison Police Department´s Facebook page, Chief Jay Burch alleged the officers were cursed at by the employee and that the restaurant manager’s only response was “I don’t get into politics.” “If a business does not want police officers as customers, just let us know,” Burch wrote. “There’s no need to curse us and make a scene, just let us know you don’t want us there and we’ll go somewhere else.” He added, "Now going
Former NFL quarter Colin Kaepernick has filed a grievance against NFL owners because he believes they colluded to keep him out of a job due to his protests during the national anthem. Kaepernick first protested in the 2016 preseason when he took a knee during the national anthem. He claimed he protested against racial injustice across the country. The protests took off, with many players following his lead.Kaepernick hired criminal defense lawyer Mark Geragos, who has represented Michael Jordan and musician Chris Brown. CBS Sports reported this statement from Geragos: We can confirm that this morning we filed a grievance under the
Colin Kaepernick has filed a grievance under the collective bargaining agreement for collusion against NFL team owners, reports Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report. Kaepernick has hired high-profile attorney Mark Geragos and is preparing to release a statement about his grievance soon, added Freeman. The free-agent quarterback has remained unemployed since his release by the San Francisco 49ers in March and has garnered little interest from teams around the league. This has caused some to suggest he´s being blackballed for his national anthem protests during the 2016 season. Kaepernick appeared in 12 games for 49ers in 2016, throwing for 2,241 yards with
The NFL said Friday it has no plans to force players to stand during the national anthem, but will convene to discuss ways to end the controversial protests without imposing new rules... NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said that Goodell "has a plan that he is going to present to owners about how to use our platform to both raise awareness and make progress on issues of social justice and equality in this country,"
The Clinton Foundation told DailyMail.com it will not return as much as $250,000 in donations from Harvey Weinstein, saying on Sunday the money had already been spent on the organization’s programs and used for charitable purposes. The foundation’s decision comes as politicians and philanthropic groups grapple with whether to return donations they have received from Weinstein, after numerous women stepped forward this month to accuse the movie mogul of sexual assault, harassment and rape. Over a dozen Democratic politicians have said they will give back or donate Weinstein’s campaign contributions to charity. The Clinton Foundation faced questions about Weinstein’s funding after Hillary Clinton
