Steve Scalise throws out first pitch
at Nationals playoff game

New York Post, by Joe Tacopino

Congressman Steve Scalise, who was badly wounded by a deranged gunman in June, threw out the first pitch at the Nationals-Cubs playoff game on Friday. Scalise, who stood on the field with only the assistance of a walker, is recovering after being shot while practicing for the annual congressional baseball game with other lawmakers. One of the Capital Hill police officers who was wounded in the shooting caught Scalise’s pitch at Game 1 of the National League Division Series. Scalise was in grave condition in the days after shooter James Hodgkinson, 66, wounded him and four others. Hodgkinson was shot dead.

The article describes the shooter as deranged instead of Leftist Republican hating and makes no mention that the practice was for the Republican Congressional team. Remember they express their bias and shape the story as much with what they don´t tell you as with what they tell you.

The Things People Do To Foil
Energy-Saving Buildings
Smithsonian Magazine, by Emily Matchar    Original Article

You’ve built your shiny new high-efficiency building with all the latest energy-saving features: smart thermostats, motion sensor-activated lights, floors designed to absorb heat during the day and release it at night. But when you look at your building’s actual energy use, the savings are far less than anticipated. Why? Well, maybe the building’s occupants are putting popsicles on the thermostats so they can force the heat to go higher. Or maybe they’re using a toy to continuously trigger the motion sensor lights, to keep them from turning off when they leave the room. Bet you didn’t think of that. Sudbury, Mass. — Police in a Massachusetts town are showing residents how not to transport their holiday trees. Sudbury police posted a picture Friday of a vehicle with a large tree on top of it. Almost the entire car appears to be hidden. Police say an officer stopped the vehicle on Route 20 in the town, located about 25 miles west of Boston. Police on Facebook reminded people to transport holiday trees “responsibly.” It’s unclear if the driver was cited. The department did not immediately respond to a request for additional details on Monday.

"Postnatal confinement" - where new mothers do not leave the house, have visitors or shower for a month after giving birth - is said to be widespread among the UK´s Chinese community. Experts warn that few in the medical profession know this occurs. "Being confined in your flat is important," says Ching Ching Turner, from her home in London that she has not left since giving birth 28 days earlier. As a man noted for his simple tastes and who does not seem receptive to new and exotic foods, Donald Trump presents a challenge for banquet organisers where the US president is the guest of honour. When The Saints Of First Baptist Church

“Prayers don’t work. We need legislation.” This has been many secular progressives’ mantra in response to recent mass shootings in America. On Sunday, after a gunman murdered more than 20 people during a church service in Sutherland Springs, Texas, some of them found proof of the powerlessness of prayer. (Snip) But for those familiar with the Bible’s promises concerning prayer and violence, nothing could be further from the truth. When those saints of First Baptist Church were murdered yesterday, God wasn’t ignoring their prayers. He was answering them. “Deliver us from evil.” Millions of Christians throughout the world pray these words

hroughout the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church held power across much of Western Europe. With a population that was largely illiterate and a Bible written in Latin, the church and its representatives—priests, bishops and the pope—acted as the sole intermediary between humankind and God. But on October 31, 1517, a monk named Martin Luther inadvertently launched a revolution. Although popular legend holds that he nailed his 95 Theses into the church door at Wittenberg, Luther himself disputed that notion, writes Eric Metaxas in Martin Luther: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World. Instead, Luther sent a letter to the
