5 Problems With The NFL’s
National Anthem Protest

The Federalist, by Mollie Hemingway

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 9/25/2017 3:55:54 PM

At a Friday rally in Alabama, President Donald Trump criticized football players who protest during the national anthem: Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b-tch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired. He’s fired!’ (Snip)Here are five reasons the NFL anthem protests are not going as well as the media would like to think. 1. Vague And Unclear Protest Goals One of the keys to a good protest is to have a clear goal. If the discussions on Sunday were any indication, nobody is entirely clear

FTA about the guy who started it last year:

Even in Kaepernick’s lengthy press conference last year, it was a bit unclear what the goals of the protest action are, or what it would take to declare victory and cease protesting. At that press conference, Kaepernick unfortunately wore a T-shirt of photos commemorating Malcolm X meeting Fidel Castro. As the better half wrote last year:

The biggest problem here is that Kaepernick is seemingly unaware of Castro’s legacy. Aside from Castro dragooning and executing Christians and gays, Castro’s record on racial justice is decidedly not ‘woke’, as the Internet likes to say. While Cuba’s legacy of racism predates Castro, it’s safe to say overt racism against individuals of African ancestry there remains far more pronounced than it is in the United States. In fact, racism is kind of an unstated official policy.

FTA: ´´Goodell issued a statement that said, “Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL.´´

Let me fix that statement:
Goodell issued a statement that said, “Divisive actions, like these by players, demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for America.

It is NOT my job to defend my feelings or my actions. You cannot embarrass or shame me into remaining your customer.

It is the NFL´s job to keep me happy.

The left has made a lot of gains by yelling racism whenever anyone criticizes something that blacks are a part of. It started with Obama who declared everything racist in order to get his way. This is not about racism; it is about patriotism. If these athletes do not like our flag or America, they have enough money to move on to a Communist nation. Just stop the madness!

I wish that some protest supporting owner would put money up to buy the quarterbacking services of Colin K.
because I would like to see what the guy can do. My guess is that ithis would have the welcome effect of removing a talking point from ESPN and JayZ while proving an embarrassment to the team owner and head case Colin K. -- unless the opposing teams agreed to take a knee instead of sacking the heroic NFL protest leader.

I understand that the players who ´take a knee´ think this is a protest, but what are they protesting? What do they think ´taking a knee´ to disrespect the flag and national anthem will accomplish? They are just overgrown uneducated brats. Now that they have our attention, what are they going to do to solve this ´problem´ or whatever it is they want?

Majority of the NFL players can´t survive in the real world. They don´t have the right temperament, the proper work ethics, the respect for social orders, the logic of connecting the dots, the prudence of planning ahead, the conscience of right and wrong, and the character of civility. You can blame AMERICA for who and what they are. Even the domesticated wild animal will someday bite the hands that feeds them.

If I we´re the owners, I´d be reviewing the collective bargaining agreement and determine appropriate actions for those who kneeled. Includes you, Kapie.

In my company, there is zero-tolerance for politicizing and agitating on company time. For the 200+ players who knealed, suspension or termination is the appropriate outcome. I see that at least one head coach and staff (Tomlin and his staff) sided with the players. Appropriate discipline including termination.

Godell, you have some work to do, pal, and fast.

Kneeling is not a protest unless you want to call it a sissy protest.

All liberals know that a real protest consists of arming yourself with a baseball bat and bottles of urine (to throw at the police), and anything else that you cam use as a weapon. You have to be able to smash windows, trash cars, set fires and loot tennis shoe stores. Anything less than this is done by sissies !!! Do you get that football boys?

Origins of the protest: Obama to Holder to BLM to Kaepernick to NFL.

Speaking about Obama, where is he? Where is Holder? Where are our vaunted racial healers? Didn´t they want a conversation about race with the white cowards? Short answer, No. They are proponents of Alinsky. You use concocted racial tensions for personal gain.

Yes, the players have First Amendment rights.

Their problem is that the fans have much stronger First Amendment rights because their numbers are in the millions and they control the purse strings. Very stupid move on the NFL´s part. Goodell may have lots of money but the loss of face when the league fails and goes bankrupt will end his joyride and all those ignorant traitors who hate America can hate it just as well from the unemployment line.

Mr. Trump´s comments caused Goodell and the owners (even Jerry Jones last night) to think this is about the NFL, citing "disrespect" for their Grand Institution. This is missing the point by a mile. The players, owners, and teammates taking a knee are doing it in solidarity with their teammates, and have missed the larger issue.

The solution is staring us right in the face and is so obvious!

In our family we stand for the National Anthem whenever and where ever it is played this includes the games on the TV at home.

It is my understanding that in the NFL "rules" book it states that players are required to stand for the national anthem, remove their helmets and face the flag with hand over heart or at their sides or face a LARGE $$$ penalty.

Well....then those who refuse to stand and show respect for the flag and our national traditions are to be fined the maximum penalty each and every time they do it and all money collected will be donated to the Red Cross.

Trust me as their wallets thin they will cease to "protest". It´s kind of like paying for a permit to protest in a city or town. You have to get a permit for it. Well, this is the cost of the permit.

I understand and respect the 1st amendment and that said there is a time and a place for everything. Kneeling during the National Anthem is neither the time nor the place to "protest" anything. I an very curious to know how many of those kneeling are volunteering in their communities on their days off and exactly how much they are donating to charities and causes of their choices.

You get much more done standing than down on one knee. I believe it is all showboating.

AS a person of faith, I do understand what is going on here. I had a similar situation happen to me awhile back. I accepted a job as a Sunday School Director and found out within weeks that I was expected to cover up anything that said Jesus or God after classes ended. Why? Because a non-Christian preschool rented the space. I said no and I knew why I was saying no.

Do these NFL players and owners know what they are protesting because I don´t. Are they protesting America, President Trump, poverty, police, or what?

I will say this that it has shown me how deeply embedded football is on a Sunday when we could be taking in a beautiful church service (the real ones), spending time with our children and grandchildren, taking in the beauty of this wonderful country, or whatever. Contrast that with these ego-filled, outrageously paid players and owners telling us hard-working, tax-paying American citizens how we should be living. By the way, if these players and owners are so concerned about poverty and oppression, why don´t they share their wealth. These includes celebrities. How often do we hear about players and celebrities getting caught up in drugs and alcohol? What a waste of money. . .

good points by many here.. but I´d add another one. Quit showing any of them! Don´t give them a public platform, as with the riots/protestors. Turm off the cameras.

Most don´t want a solution or an "awareness" of a perceived problem. They want dissention, they want others to choose sides. Everything is political.

If Tebow cant take a knee without a fine, then explain this, Goddell.

This year the National Thugball League made it simple, all of them are boycotted by me now. You can insult me once but you can´t insult me twice.
I´m an American first and watching these heathens playing is supporting their actions so I bow out.
As for brain injuries that could only help the brain dead idiots because they show no thought process now so an injury is an enhancement.

Here is some history to think about.
This started the Sunday before the final cut last year.
KK had a good idea he would be cut. So he did the protest and let everyone know about it.
He felt that it would be impossible for the team to cut him because he was a black protesting injustice to blacks.

He was right. Instead of cutting a player who wasn´t able to make the team on merit they opened Pandora´s box.

Here´s a clue...this isn´t a protest, it´s a big FU. They have finally found something that really pizzes us off and now they´re going to double and triple down on it because they like how much it´s pizzing us off.

Who is the "us" they´re flipping off? It´s those who love our anthem, our flag, our country, our military, our judeo-christian religion, our values and traditions, our constitution, etc., etc, They hate us. They really, really do.

In short, they´re not on our team. WE are their enemy.

Respecting the flag and anthem says you are one of "us". You have been integrated into our society.

Kneeling says the opposite.

The work of Baptist minister (remember?) Martin Luther King is being undone, because those whose status he fought to advance have abandoned the Christian principles (including "render unto Caesar") that were central to his non-violent approach.

Congratulations, kneelers: you are effectively re-segregating our society. You have exposed the disconnect between the racial makeup of the players, and the racial makeup of the fans.

If you are not one of us, then so be it.

So what´s the beef???
If a stewardess were to do what these people do she would be fired.
These guys are overpaid prima donnas who suddenly feel they should educate the viewing public what poor slobs they are! Perhaps the NFL should make it mandatory that they play not espouse political or other issues as their platform!

FTA: ´The league also faces problems with the high levels of brain injury players face´ How can we tell?

And no, they don´t have First Amendment rights when acting as representatives of their employers. The First only prevents the government from banning speech. I can conclude that the owners agree with what the players are doing to their franchise incomes.

Off the field and out of uniform they can do what they want (and suffer the consequences)

Are the protestors protesting racism and racial injustice, or are they protesting the national anthem and the United States? Since the protests are managed by a bunch of anti-American radical leftists, the answer is the latter. From that perspective, is it any surprise millions of people are telling them where to go? Do blacks and the NFL really hate America? If so, shame on them. If not, they need to wise up and realize they are being used.

There are many other ways for the NFL and its players to speak out against racism and racial injustice. Taking a knee during the national anthem is not one of them.

Here is the deal. It is disrespectful to the fall and country to not stand during the National Anthem. Period.

You want to protest unfair treatment t, social injustice, a hang nail..do it on your time. I have yet to see these pampered elitist football players out protesting the breakdown of the African American family. The amount of black on black murder in Chicago.. or how school choice would allow poor families the same opportunity to get their kids educated across town.. so, NFL, as in not for long, better come up with a real good reason to turn th TV on Sunday.

The biggest problem with the entire athlete protest movement is that it is based on either a misconception or an outright lie.

So, let’s just cut to the chase. African Americans make up only 12% of America’s population, yet are responsible for 52% of the homicides in America, and nearly all of those homicides are comprised of black men killing other black men. Using government statistics, a black man in America is 32 times more likely to be killed by another black man than by either a white man or a police officer.

Far and away the greatest threat to black men in America is other black men.

It’s important to remember current FBI Director Christopher Wray is not the opposition in this effort. Many of the congressional presentations to Director Wray are framed around opposition to the organization, the remaining high-level administrative bureaucrats, and how the FBI has a corrupt base of officials remaining; not Wray’s current leadership. Private investigators believe a prominent billionaire couple found dead in their Toronto mansion last month were murdered by multiple people two days before their bodies were discovered, Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Saturday, citing a source “with direct knowledge of the parallel probe” into the deaths of Honey and Barry Sherman. The private investigation — which contained graphic details of the alleged ways the Shermans had been killed — at times contradicted early reports about an ongoing investigation by Toronto police, who have remained tight-lipped about the case over the past month. The bodies of Honey and Barry Sherman were first discovered Dec.

LAS VEGAS — John Coleman, who co-founded The Weather Channel and was the original meteorologist on ABC´s "Good Morning America" during a six-decade broadcasting career but who later drew people´s anger for his open distrust of climate change, has died. He was 83. (Snip) Coleman also drew anger during the later years of his career for his views on global warming, which he called a "hoax" and a "scam." In a 2013 KUSI news segment, Coleman, while talking about a global warming study, chastised national media for reporting on it from "an environmental point of view and their continuing liberal, political agenda." President Donald Trump’s speech in Pennsylvania on Thursday convinced MSNBC host Chris Matthews that Trump will be extremely tough to beat in 2020 even if Democrats take back Congress in 2018. Matthews said on his Hardball show this week that though Democrats are giddy about potentially sweeping away Republican incumbents in the fall, a good year in 2018 does not mean Democrats can defeat the charismatic Trump if he remains on message about the booming economy and as disciplined as he was on Thursday. A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released on Friday found that satisfaction with the economy is at a

Government Shut Down Update:

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer gave a tepid, droning, and utterly unconvincing performance on the Senate floor this morning where he repeatedly inserted the phrase, “the Trump shutdown.” The problem for Mr. Schumer is two-fold: First, very few watched his speech. Yes, CNN, MSNBC, etc., will replay it a few times, but none of those replays will generate as much interest as a single Trump tweet. Second, and this is even more critical, the phrase “Schumer Shutdown” is trending throughout Social Media circles – a development which has Mr. Schumer’s staff increasingly troubled. He doesn’t want to be the one

Democrats called it the Trump shutdown. Republicans labeled it the Schumer shutdown. But in reality, it was the Dreamer shutdown. The recipe for the current congressional gridlock is complex, but at the top of the list of ingredients are the illegal immigrant Dreamers who pushed Democrats to launch the filibuster that sent the government careening into a partial shutdown. It’s a stunning display of political leverage for a group that, at most, numbers several million, can’t vote now, and even under the most generous proposals wouldn’t be able to cast ballots for another decade. Yet they have amassed an extraordinary amount of

It´s no secret that Mitt Romney is, in all likelihood, going to run for a Senate seat in Utah. What´s less clear, however, is why the man who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and is now retired and occupying an elder-statesman role in a party torn into warring factions would want to serve as a junior senator. Once elected, Romney would find himself embroiled in day-to-day congressional fights and less free to voice his criticisms of the White House, while losing some of the deference he´s been shown by members of his own party. But listen to any number of Republicans and

Malia Obama, who is studying at Harvard University, has boyfriend! But some black people on Twitter have questioned her choice in men, because Malia´s new homey, Rory Farquharson, is white. (5 tweets) This racism on the part of some in the black community, who are bruddas and sistas to us all, is very sad. Most white people want us to grow together as a community. I just wish everyone of all races felt the same way. Questions for discussion: After years of Obama´s race baiting, President Trump is the first "post-racial" president to follow him. Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) questioned President Donald Trump’s new campaign ad saying Democrats “will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants” if they continued the shutdown. Ryan said, “They are certainly not helping us keep the government open. They are certainly not helping us get to a solution on immigration. When you shut down the government you stop negotiating on immigration reform. They’re complicity with not getting things done.” He added, “I’m not going to comment. I just saw that. I don’t know if that’s necessarily productive. It’s no

Investigators in both House and Senate were stunned late Friday when, receiving a batch of newly-released texts between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, they also received notice from the bureau that the FBI "failed to preserve" Strzok-Page messages from December 14, 2016 through May 17, 2017. Given the amount of texting that went on between Strzok and Page, who were having an extramarital affair, that probably meant thousands of missing documents. A number of critical events in the Trump-Russia affair occurred between December 2016 and May 2017, including: Conversations between Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russian ambassador Sergey

Question: Do you think Donald Trump spends more time thinking about Hillary Clinton than Hillary Clinton spends thinking about Donald Trump? Sure does seem like it. The other day, President Trump was discussing Russia at a press conference with the prime minister of Norway, when he suddenly announced that Clinton “was not for a strong military and Hillary, my opponent, was for windmills, and she was for other types of energy that don’t have the same capacities at this moment certainly.” Yeah, it didn’t make any sense. WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called the government shutdown a “manufactured crisis” created by Democrats who want a permanent Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) fix, which he referred to as a “non-emergency” issue that does not belong in the short-term spending bill to continue federal government operations. “The one non-emergency issue our friends on the other side of the aisle are trying to shoehorn into this discussion doesn’t reach that status of emergency until March. Calling the Trump administration’s tax reform plan a “middle-class tax increase,” two California lawmakers introduced a bill that would force large companies to fork over half of their expected savings to the state. Assemblymen Kevin McCarty and Phil Ting, both Democrats, introduced Assembly Constitutional Amendment 22, which calls for a 10 percent surcharge on companies with a net earnings over $1 million. The plan could potentially raise billions for the state´s social services programs. “It is unconscionable to force working families to pay the price for tax breaks and loopholes benefiting corporations and wealthy individuals,” Ting said in a statement,

The Senate on Monday was set to hold a successful vote to reopen the federal government, after Senate Democrats agreed to let the bill through even though it doesn´t include immigration language they are seeking. "We will vote today to reopen the government to continue negotiating a global agreement," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the floor. Under the bill up to be called up, the government would be fully funded through Feb. 8, and it would fund the Children´s Health Insurance Program for six years. It would also reopen the government, which has been partially closed since midnight

It has been four months since Megyn Kelly earned the wrath and ire of Jane Fonda for asking the 80-year-old actress about her plastic surgery, and the NBC host is now responding to the backlash. That moment occurred during Kelly´s third episode when she asked the Oscar-winner about what work she had done in the past, which prompted a steely Fonda to stare Kelly down and ask: ´We really want to talk about that now?´ Since then Fonda has complained about the question to a number of outlets, and even mocked Kelly´s question on Today last week during an interview
