This is why Mexico is being
ravaged by earthquakes

In just 12 days Mexicans have experienced two powerful earthquakes that have killed at least 300 people. Mexico City is no stranger to earthquakes, on the day the latest one struck, residents had just completed an earthquake drill marking the anniversary of one of the country’s most devastating quakes, an 8.1 magnitude quake that happened 30 years ago and killed more than 10,000 people. An earlier quake that hit on September 7 was also a magnitude 8.1 quake and hit mostly in the southern part of the country in areas like Oaxaca and Chiapas. It was the most powerful to hit Mexico in

Truth is they just don´t live on solid ground. Their government lets them down by allowing buildings that serve as death traps and let what is basically good people down.

The rescuers, supply brigadiers (adapted bucket brigade), and general citizenry are being very, very impressive!

I hope they can elect a better government. They´ve done it once, literally, and now it is time to do it again, figuratively: drain the swamp!

So, if you say to Mexico to "go to Hades", it is actually happening - their plate sliding under the North American plate.

Cute quip in #5. Except Mexico is on the North American plate (save for the part we call Baja California, which is on the Pacific plate). So the Cocos plate, which lies entirely under the ocean, is sliding under Mexico...

Sorry to spoil the fun. Never outgrew being a nerd, though; even if I no longer have the raw brainpower to excel at it.

Omarosa Manigault Newman, the former contestant on President Trump’s “The Apprentice,” was fired and forcibly removed from the White House after Secret Service agents blocked her path to his office, according to reports. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement saying Manigault Newman resigned as director of communications in the Office of Public Liaison “to pursue other opportunities.” “Her departure will not be effective until Jan. 20, 2018. We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service,” Sanders said. But a White House official told the Wall Stre

President Donald Trump strongly backed Republican Roy Moore to win the U.S. Senate seat in Alabama vacated earlier this year by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Tonight in a special election, Moore lost that race to Doug Jones, who is the first Democrat to be elected to the Senate since 1992. Trump issued a congratulatory response to Jones´ victory on Twitter late Tuesday night. Donald J. Trump ? @realDonaldTrump Congratulations to Doug Jones on a hard fought victory. The write-in votes played a very big factor, but a win is a win. The people of Alabama are great, and the Republicans will have another shot at

I might as well get into the “hot take” game. Democrats and their media echo chamber will openly celebrate Doug Jones’s narrow win in Alabama, but inside I’ll bet they are actually disappointed. There is little chance they can hold this seat in 2020 (unless Republicans nominate Roy Moore again). Meanwhile, Jones deprives them of their favorite talking point that Republicans are all drooling knuckle-dragging morons. Worse, it means Al Franken will likely have to go through with his resignation after all. I’d bet money that a polygraph examination would reveal that Franken was secretly hoping for a Moore victory.

Rush founded the Beloved Community Christian Church, a nondenominational Christian church, in Chicago in 2002 with the intent of helping disadvantaged people in his community. That was some resignation, the Al Franken speech at the Senate the other day. As he spoke, all we heard was “I didn’t do nothin’ — and, besides, you can’t prove it!” Some of the accusers, he asserted, were outright liars. As for the others — in so many words, it came down to: “Well, they say I grabbed them by the tush and squeezed as tightly as their available epidermis and subcutaneous adipose tissue allowed, or stuck my probing tongue into their mouths and swirled it around inside, saliva and all, like finishing off the last drippings of a

About 10 years ago, at the after-party for a wine auction in New Orleans, a woman in her 20s walked up to Mario Batali to introduce herself. As a chef, she was excited to meet one of the most revered figures in the restaurant industry. When they started talking, she recalls, she realized that he’d been drinking and he became what she characterized as “creepy” — “just giving me this provocative, icky feeling.” Minutes into their conversation, she recalls, he told her, “Come work for me, I’ll pay you double what you’re making.” Moments later, someone bumped her glass, spilling wine

ABOARD A MILITARY AIRCRAFT — With the State Department in upheaval, and the president focused on "America First" domestic concerns, what diplomacy and foreign policy the White House is successfully exercising have fallen more and more to one man, retired Marine Gen. James Mattis. During a just concluded tour of Pakistan, Egypt, Kuwait, and Jordan, the Defense secretary sounded much more like the country´s chief diplomat than its top soldier. When talking to reporters during his trip, he stressed that U.S. foreign policy is not "myopically military only." The sexual harassment hysteria that shifted with such convenient alacrity from the entertainment industry and the news media to Capitol Hill has nothing to do with protecting women, “rape culture,” or radical feminism. It isn’t even about destroying President Trump, though his downfall is ever a consummation devoutly to be wished by the left. #MeToo, in its partisan permutation, is instead a movement cynically co-opted by Democrats desperately seeking an issue — any issue — that will save them from disaster in next year’s midterms. Smacked in the gob because only a decade ago such a question would have seemed so remotely hypothetical as to be absurd. And yet, here we are. A Christian baker has taken a stand on the grounds of religious conscience and artistic freedom not to provide a cake specifically designed for a legal, constitutional same-sex

The men filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Division, claiming Masterpiece Cakeshop “discriminated against them in a place

Here are five things to know about why Jones won, why Moore lost, and what it means for the future of the U.S. Senate and both parties. 1. Character matters. According to NBC News exit polls, 49 percent of Alabama voters thought the sexual assault accusations against Roy Moore were "definitely" or "probably" true. Republicans and Democrats split on partisan lines — a whopping 82 percent of Republicans said the allegations were "probably" or "definitely" false,

Special prosecutors, investigators, and counsels are usually a bad idea. They are admissions that constitutionally mandated institutions don’t work — and can be rescued only by supposed superhuman moralists, who are without the innate biases inherent in human nature. The record from Lawrence Walsh to Ken Starr to Patrick Fitzgerald suggests otherwise. Originally narrow mandates inevitably expand — on the cynical theory that everyone has something embarrassing to hide. Promised “short” timelines and limited budgets are quickly forgotten. Prosecutors search for ever new crimes to justify the expense and public expectations of the special-counsel appointment. Soon the investigators need to
