Joni Ernst, GOP senator, demands
cap on ex-presidents’ payments

Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan

Original Article

A Republican senator introduced legislation Tuesday to cut down on the amount of money ex-presidents siphon from taxpayers, looking to limit their pensions and office expenses. Sen. Joni Ernst, Iowa Republican, said that while presidents should keep getting taxpayer-funded security details, they don’t need the more than $1 million in pensions and office equipment that former Presidents Obama and George W. Bush are each expected to cost in 2018. (snip) The Washington Times reported last month that Mr. Obama is poised to become the most expensive ex-president during his first full year out of office, in 2018. Between his $236,000 pension,

I agree with Joni. Most Presidents leave office filthy rich, which is not the reason they are supposed to be there. Obama is a good example. He had nothing much when he was elected, now he is a millionaire (or more), for what? He was the worst President we ever had, IMO.

Why should they be entitled to retirement? They serve 4-8 years and for some reason this puts them in a position to hit the talk circuit or find other means to make lots of money. Early presidents gave a few years to their fellow citizens and then went back to their own lives never to be heard from again, unless they were respected enough to have worthwhile opinions for the leaders that followed them.

They should get what Harry Truman got - after they sign over the proceeds to their books, speaking engagements, and any other income derived from their former office. Prohibit any board memberships, including (especially) Foundations. Want the cash, then get a one dollar a year pension and the thanks of a grateful nation.

Didn´t I just read that the Obama´s have been investigating buying property on Cape Cod for 12 -15 million dollars?

Not to mention the house in D.C. and the one in Chicago that we still spend money on for "security reasons". Then there is the huge property that the Mooch bought in California. That one is still secret, protected by the Press no doubt. The rumored purchase in Hawaii is also secret.

By the time they are done they will own more homes than Bernie, the Socialist.

They´re rich before they get elected, become even richer while in office making their sleazy corrupt side deals, take lavish vacations, and don´t deserve another single dime from us taxpayers. Make them pay for their own security too.

“Prayers don’t work. We need legislation.” This has been many secular progressives’ mantra in response to recent mass shootings in America. On Sunday, after a gunman murdered more than 20 people during a church service in Sutherland Springs, Texas, some of them found proof of the powerlessness of prayer. hroughout the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church held power across much of Western Europe. With a population that was largely illiterate and a Bible written in Latin, the church and its representatives—priests, bishops and the pope—acted as the sole intermediary between humankind and God. But on October 31, 1517, a monk named Martin Luther inadvertently launched a revolution. Although popular legend holds that he nailed his 95 Theses into the church door at Wittenberg, Luther himself disputed that notion, writes Eric Metaxas in Martin Luther: The Man Who Rediscovered God and Changed the World. The Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918 reached just about every continent throughout the globe. It’s perhaps better known as the “Spanish Flu,” a moniker given to the virus in part because Spain’s press, unshackled by the wartime restrictions laid upon the news media in other countries, robustly reported on its deadly impact. In the United States, for instance, the Sedition Act of 1918, made it a crime to publish any utterance that would interfere with the war effort. As the virus spread throughout America, the press was initially non-alarmist. But the death and illness that followed were unmistakable; the pandemic
